  • The increase in logistics and the emergence of high speed vehicles are aggravating the noise problem, and disturbing large numbers of people. Therefore, growing attention is being paid to the creation and utilization of a noise map in order to grasp and predict the influence of noise, and to establish a policy that effectively reduces noise. However, so far there has been little progress in developing a predictive formula for railway noise, and a noise prediction program suitable for the domestic environment. Therefore, there is a need for a method to apply the overseas prediction formula to domestic railway vehicles. This study evaluated the prediction method, the result of which is similar to that of a real measurement, using a noise map. It also employed a commercial software program, SoundPlan, to predict noise.

  • Planning and construction of railway for high speed trains up to 400 km/h are recently driven in Korea. High speed train is one of the environment-friendly fastest mass transportation means but its noise generated by rolling, traction and aerodynamic mechanism can cause public complaints of residents nearby railways. To cost-effectively prevent the troublesome noise in a railway planning stage, the rational railway noise prediction method considering the characteristics of trains as well as railway structures should be required but it is difficult to find an authentic method for Korean high speed trains such as KTX and KTX-II. In this study, recent railway noise prediction methods developed by EU countries are introduced and discussed for consulting before setting the framework of our own railway noise prediction model emitted by Korean high speed trains over 250 km/h. Especially, the new Schall 03 model (2006) developed by Germany and IMAGINE model (2007) suggested by an EU framework research project are intensively reviewed. In addition, research items required for the development of our own model are suggested.

  • With rapidly industrial development, a railway has become of a main traffic means. But, the railway noise has caused much annoyance for the residents living nearby railway tracks. Therefore, in our country, for established of Quite dwelling environment, execute regulation standard of railway noise from January 1, 2000. Efficiency soundproofing measures, however, are very difficult because of the lack of basic data and insufficiency of the existing research. In this point, this study attempts to survey the characteristics of attenuation and propagation of railway noise in by existence of noise barrier. And this study intends to get the basic data for establishment of a standard about railway noise.

  • As the railway noise guideline of the Ministry of Environment after 2017 is strictly enforced, the noise level at stationary condition of urban railway is demanding the reduction about 2 dB(A). And the noise level at running condition is reduced by 6 dB(A) at 80 km/h. Therefore, the devices that causes noise shall arrange for the improvement plan of noise reduction for each device. In this paper, we carried out a technical review of the driving gear used to drive the vehicle from a variety of noise-induced equipment of a urban railway. Analyze the causes of the current noise levels and noise cause about the driving gear used in current urban railway and this study analyzes the noise level and noise cause the drive gear being used in the current urban railway. Finally, in this paper proposes a scheme for reducing the noise that can be designed to reduce the noise with considering the noise cause analysis.

  • With the rapid industrial development, railways have become a main traffic means of transportation. However, rail traffic noise and vibration have become a major problem in urban areas which is a very serious issue for the living environment. Especially, railway noise induced by rail operations has influenced on the residents living near railway tracks. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the Raynoise modeling in railway applications. Generally, my acoustics have been used to investigate the effectiveness of noise barriers in railway applications and barriers are modeled using the commercial software Raynoise. A-weighted sound pressure level have been measured at six locations, 4m from the track and are compared with experimental values. Based on the analysis of the results, Comparison between numerical and experimental values are within 1dB (A). Also, when a train is m through the Raynoise modeling, the general influential sphere of railway noise can be determined. Therefore, this study will be using basic data in establishing effective railway noise prevention plans far the future. Also, we could know that is applicable of Raynoise modeling at railway noise.

  • CA mortar layer disengagement will give rise to the overall structural changes of the track and variation in the vibration form of the ballastless track. By establishing a vehicle-track-viaduct coupling analysis and calculation model, it is possible to analyze the CRTS-I type track structure vibration response while the track slab is disengaging with the power flow evaluation method, to compare the two disengaging types, namely partial contact loss at one edge beneath track slab and partial contact loss at midpoint beneath track slab. It can also study how the length of disengaging influences the track structures vibration power. It is showed that when the partial contact loss beneath track slab, and the relative vibration energy level between the rail and the track slab increases significantly within [10, 200]Hz with the same disengaging length, the partial contact loss at one edge beneath track slab has more prominent influence on the vibration power than the partial contact loss at midpoint beneath track slab. With the increase of disengaging length, the relative vibration energy level of the track slab grows sharply, but it will change significantly when it reaches 1.56 m. Little effect will be caused by the relative vibration energy level of the viaduct. The partial contact loss beneath the track slab will cause more power distribution and transmission between the trail and track slab, and will then affect the service life of the rail and track slab.

The model considers railway sound power level using several point sources distributed in heights as well as tracks, whose detail speed- and frequency-dependent emission characteristics of Korean high speed trains should be determined in near future by measurement or numerical analysis. The attenuation during propagation outdoors is calculated by the well-known ISO 9613-2 and auxiliary methods to consider undulated terrain and wind effect.

  • For external noise prediction of railway vehicles, sophisticated individual source modelling as well as appropriate noise propagation model from the sources is necessary to ensure the accuracy of the predicted results and contributions of each equipment to the overall noise levels. Accurate and reasonable identification procedures of sound sources of equipment including source strength, directivity and positions installed in the train play an important role in a prediction model, since it is not easy to establish a simple model for the sources with a single rule due to the complexity of source characteristics of equipment in size and directivity pattern. This paper guidelines practical considerations for identification of noise sources in railway vehicles including typical source characteristics of several sub-systems that emits noise to the environment, particularly for electric multiple unit(EMU), and verify effectiveness of assumptions used in the modelling of equipment by measurement with a simple part. The predicted external noise level of a complete train using Exnoise, which was developed by Hyundai-Rotem and has been verified in the a lot of field-tests, incorporating source modelling considered in this paper shows close correlation with the measured ones.

  • The multiple regression analysis and path analysis in each dominant area of noise source are conducted to analyze the relationship between dependent variables like annoyance and independent ones such as noise and non-noise factors. The multiple regression analysis shows that impact of noise factors is the highest to annoyance in dominant areas of road traffic and railway noise. Meanwhile, impact of non-noise factors such as sensitivity and satisfaction of environment on annoyance is also high in these areas. The path analysis result for multivariate analysis between various independent and dependent variables is similar to that of the multiple regression analysis. However, noise factor is the greatest factor influent on annoyance in the dominant areas of the combined noise, and relationship between annoyance and sensitivity is the highest in combined area exposed to road traffic noise and railway noise.
