  • This paper presents the analysis of the permanent magnet overhang effect for permanent magnetic actuator. Generally, The overhang is often used to increase the force density in permanent magnet machineries. The overhang is especially profitable to reduce the volume after increasing the force density per volume when using the overhang effect of the permanent magnet. Therefore, 3D Equivalent Magnetic Circuit Network Method (3D EMCNM) has been used in this paper. According to the plunger position, flux distribution per the overhang length, and the holding force are quantitatively compared. Furthermore, an appropriate length of the overhang has been proposed. To confirm the accuracy of the analysis method, the results of 3D EMCNM and FEM(2D, 3D) are compared for the basic model.

  • This study examines the cruise course network structure in the Asian regions and the centrality of ports using social network analysis (SNA). For network analysis of Asian cruise courses, a data network of cruise courses was constructed using data on courses of cruise ships operating in Asian ports collected from the reports of the Cruise Lines International Associations. There are 249 nodes or ports of ship companies that provide cruise courses to Asia between from October 2015 to June 2016, and these nodes connect 545 ports. Density analysis based on ports where cruise ship companies operated cruise ships showed that, from October 2015 to June 2016, the density was 0.009, which was lower than the average of global port network density (2006 to 2011) and railroad network density. In addition, was calculated to be, which means that connection with all ports was possible through 2,180 steps. In the analysis of the Asian cruise course network centrality, Singapore ranked first in both out-degree and in-degree in connection centrality, followed by Hong Kong, Shanghai, Ho Chi Minh, and Keelung. Singapore also ranked first in the result betweenness centrality analysis, followed by Penang, Dubai, and Hong Kong. From October 2015 to June 2016, the port with the highest Eigenvector centrality was Hong Kong, followed by Ho Chi Minh, Singapore, Shanghai, and Danang. In the case of the domestic ports Incheon, Busan, and Jeju, connection centrality, betweenness centrality, and Eigenvector centrality all ranked lower than their competitor Chinese ports.

  • In this paper a novel access scheme for uplink multiuser transmission based on IEEE 802.11ax random access in in-aircraft wireless sensor networks is proposed. The proposed scheme provides an efficient access control mechanism with three divisions of OFDMA backoff counter (OBO): access, deferring, dropping, which controls the number of potential uplink transmission stations. The proposed scheme can be used efficiently in in-aircraft wireless sensor network where a large number of sensors need to be supported. By using the proposed scheme, since in-aircraft sensors attempt channel access using the proposed differentiated OBO parameters, the number of stations exceeds the access capacity can be efficiently controlled. This paper also provides the mathematical analysis of the proposed scheme, regarding the optimal parameters. According to the performance analysis, the proposed scheme is able to efficiently control the access behavior of wireless sensors in the network.

  • The two Koreas agreed to pursue rail and road connections on September 19, 2018 in the Pyongyang Joint Declaration. In December 2018, they launched a joint investigation for the North Korean railway modernization project. The survey confirmed that the track condition is seriously aging so that it is impossible to operate, and the railway network is well connected to major cities. Therefore, it was reasonable to modernize the aging track of the existing railway network rather than construct a new railway network. This paper proposed the railway communication policy for the improvement of railway lines and the construction of the railway wireless network by analyzing the status of roadbeds and tracks in order to enhance interoperability for the inter-Korean railway connection and safety for preventing the railway accidents.

  • Track circuit decides whether the section is occupied by train or free using the electrical characteristics of the rail, and sends information to the train using the rail as the medium of communication. So the electrical parameters of the rail are important to the track circuits. But they are influenced by the frequency of the transmitted signal and the environments like rain, snow and location of the rail. In this paper, the parameters of the rail is practically measured using the measurement method based on the 2-port network. The measurement demonstrates that the parameters of the rail is dependent on the frequency of the signal flowing on the rail and the environments like wheather. So this analysis of the parameters helps the design of track circuits.

  • As the on-board electric devices determine the performances of vehicles, production of reliable devices is important. To keep the reliability of devices constant, management of performance evaluation of the on-board devices is crucial. Because temperature bas a serious effect on failures of the components of the devices, its measurement is the first step for good management. In this study, we described performance characteristics of domestic auxiliary block developed through G7 project. We measured the performances of auxiliary block during test running by the developed on-line measurement system. After we save the input real-time data from each signal of Korean High Speed Train through the network line, we can acquire necessary information through Post-Processing program. We verify the auxiliary converter characteristics of Korean High Speed Train by this system.

  • H maritime company in Korea had a long history of difficulty in obtaining enough empty containers to transport its commodities. Despite efforts to resolve the problem, the repositioning of empty containers between depots was still planned manually, which consumed much worker time. To automate the generation of reposition plans, we developed a planning system to optimize the company's reposition of empty containers between global depots with a linear programming model functioning as a key decision engine in the system. The model determines the route, volume and mode of transportation for repositioning empty containers from depots with surplus containers to those requiring containers, as well as the empty space of ships generated from the unloading or loading of full and empty containers. The system has been in operation in the company's global network since March 2008.

  • The development of both economical and consistent structure is strongly required for the whole reorganization of the railway network in Korea. Retaining wall is one of the major structures in the vicinity of the railway, which needs improving its external appearance and stability. Therefore, this study presents a new type of retaining wall, so called short-fiber composite reinforced retaining wall, as an alternative of retaining walls, which can be used for constructing the slope and roadbed soil structures. The results from real-scale test and dynamic numerical analysis for developed new one, which helps both the improvement of the external appearance and also the optimum use of the limited space near the railway, show excellent performance. On the basis of these results, it is judged that short-fiber composite reinforced retaining wall has the advantages of choosing the front wall freely and having a chance to use any low quality soil as backfill.
