Domestic railway communication in Korea has been introduced for mutual communications among control center, operation staffs, and maintenance staffs. It has been mainly used as railway disaster and safety functions from VHF and UHF from 1980’s and TRS-Astro and TRS-Tetra from the 2000’s. Recently for urban railways communications, 18GHz and 2.4GHz ranges have been utilized for image transmissions and control command communications, respectively. This paper analyzes technical development of LTE-R, LTE communication for Railways, that has been designed as a single integrated railway wireless network in order to merge the current various communication systems. In this paper, we present the details of the examination of the LTE-R test-bed using 2.6GHz test frequency in Daebul test line through CW test and optimization test.
This paper proposes the track system with twin block sleeper for a LIM type maglev railroad. Because a LIM type maglev railroad is expected to be constructed in inner city, social costs can be required under construction. Accordingly, superstructure using precast plate was adopted and twin block sleeper which can be constructed together with precast plate was developed to reduce the construction period. To examine the structural safety of the proposed track system with twin block sleeper, the finite element analyses and the laboratory experiments were performed. Also, the workability of the proposed track system was investigated through the construction simulation test and construction experience in test bed.
Recently many studys have been continued Nak-Dong river. This study recognized the importance about a rivers floor change. The Nak-Dong main river of railroad bridge(2.423Km) waegwan-eup, Cilgok-gun, Gyeongsangbuk-do analyzed to the SED2D-WES model. This study recognized the difference of the model according to the existence and nonexistence of the bridge piers. At a result of mean velocity current is higher in bridge option appeared in this case. As well sediment transportation model show that river bed change appear the part of velocity is low.

The quality of track-bed fills of railways has been controlled by field measurements of density (${\gamma}_d$) and the results of plate-load tests. The control measures are compatible with the design procedures whose design parameter is $k_{30}$ for both ordinary-speed railways and high-speed railways. However, one of fatal flaws of the design procedures is that there are no simple laboratory measurement procedures for the design parameters ($k_{30}$ or, $E_{v2}$ and $E_{v2}/E_{v1}$) in design stage. A new quality control procedure, in parallel with the advent of the new design procedure, is being proposed. This procedure is based upon P-wave velocity involving consistently the evaluation of design parameters in design stage and the field measurements during construction. The key concept of the procedure is that the target value for field compaction control is the P-wave velocity determined at OMC using modified compaction test, and direct-arrival method is used for the field measurements during construction. The procedure was verified at a test site and the p-wave velocity turned out to be an excellent control measure. The specifications for the control also include field compaction water content of $OMC{\pm}2%$ as well as the p-wave velocity.
Recently, the traditional paradigm in railroad technology is changing as more efficient and cost-effective electric vehicle (EV) technologies have emerged. The original concept of PRT (Personal Rapid Transit) proposed in the past has come to be regarded as unrealistic, but its feasibility is improving through the utilization of an EV platform. In particular, battery-powered vehicles pose difficult technical challenges in attempts to achieve reliable and efficient operation. However, based on the inductive power transfer (IPT) technology, the fast charging of supercapacitors with high energy density can contribute to overcoming this technical challenge and promote the transition to electric-powered ground transportation by improving the appearance of cities. This study discusses the development process of a power supply system for PRT, including concept design, numerical analysis, and device manufacturing, along with performance predictions and evaluations. In terms of results, the system was found to meet the performance requirements for power supply modules on a test-bed.

The maintenance method for the electrical facility of high speed railway has been evolved from inspection by personnel to the automated way by the detection devices. In particular, the signalling equipment in order to increase the safe and efficient operation of the trains is required to maintain normal operation by periodic maintenance. Because the return current gives the most important effects to the wayside equipment in case of the failures, a method is needed to measure the unbalanced rate of return current on the train at high speed driving. The Hot Box Detector(HBD) device that is installed at track-side has a function to recognize the abnormal axle box by detecting the temperature that occurs in the axle of train passing over its device. In order to implement the measurement equipment for unbalanced rate of return current and axle temperature, the design method is proposed and the experimental test results by test bed are included in the paper.

As the world energy consumption grows, the interest in marin energy resources is increasing. In excavating such resources, the marine riser which connects the floating structure and sea bed is an essential device. The riser system is often exposed to harsh ocean environment and thus vulnerable to damage. Since the failure of the riser system may cause serious economical loss as well as environmental problem, the structural integrity of the riser is very important. Generally, the riser is an extremely slender structure with a much smaller diameter than a length. Therefore, a structural integrity monitoring methodology for typical buildings and bridges may not be applicable. In this paper, the applicability of a damage identification method for a structure to a marine riser is examined via a numerical example. Also, recent research practices and findings for monitoring the behavior and the structural integrity of the marine riser are examined and summarized.

For many decades, railroad technology was used to set up tracks with jointed rails and lengths in accordance with rolling and handling technology. The joints lead to drawbacks in the track and in controlling rising maintenance costs. So, railroad engineers became interested in eliminating joints to increase loads, speeds and improvements in rolling, welding, and fastening technology. Continuous welded rail(CWR) track has many advantages over the conventional jointed-rail track. In the case of the elimination of rail joints, it may cause the track to be suddenly and laterally buckled by thermal forces and vehicle load. Thermal forces are caused by an increase in the temperature of railway track. For many years, many analytical and experimental investigations have been conducted to improve the safety of CWR track by various research center in many country. In this paper, CWR track model and CWRB program is developed for buckling analysis using finite element method(FEM). The finite element discretization is used for a rail element with a total of 14 degrees of freedom. The stiffness of the fasteners, tie, and ballast bed is included by a set of spring elements. The investigation on the buckling modes and temperature of CWR track is presented in this paper
In this study, Several types of geotextile was used on the selected track-bed. The use of geotextile prove a economical and efficientmean to prevent the problem of mud-pumping and settlement. Field testing sections from Mock-haeng to Dong-ryang in the Chungbuk lines in Korea were selected to investigate in current condition the of track and roadbed. This testing site was divided into 5 sections. In the four sections, different types of geotextiles were installed. In order to estimate for performance of the reinforced section with geotextiles on the soft ground, four different geotextiles were installed and compared with no reinforced section. Also, after the installation, mud-pumping, settlement of elastic or plastic sleeper, failure of track, wheel-loads, and earth pressures were investigated. The following is the summaries from the field tests. As a conclusion, According to naked eyes investigation, mud pumping didn't happen at reinforced sections, but no reinforced section was happen to a top of track for 6 months. And Elastic displacements at the reinforced and no reinforced section were about $30.7\%\;and\;73.8\%,$ respectively. Also, It was found that plastic displacement in reinforced section was retrained about $50\%$ more than that in no reinforced section.

Needs for a new technologies of infrastructure systems arose, following the development of next generation EMU(Electric Multiple Unit) train with maximum speed over 400km/h. For high-speed operation tests of the new EMU, a high-speed railway infrastructure test-bed was constructed in a 28km long section of the Honam High-speed Railway. Diverse sensors and monitoring system was installed for continuous monitoring of the railway. Due to such effort, further demands and needs of the integrated monitoring system was derived in a more comprehensive and long-term perspective.
