  • The performance of a direct-injection diesel engine often depends on the strength of swirl or squish, the shape of combustion chamber, the number of nozzle holes, etc. This is natural because the combustion in the cylinder was affected by the mixture formation process. Since the available duration to make the mixture formation of air-fuel is very short, it is difficult to make complete mixture. Therefore, an early stage of combustion is violent, which leads to the weakness of noise and vibration. In this paper, the combustion process of a common-rail diesel engine was studied by employing two kinds of pistons. One has several grooves with inclined plane on the piston crown to generate swirl during the compression and expansion strokes in the cylinder in order to improve the atomization of fuel. The other is a toroidal piston, generally used in high speed diesel engines. To take photographs of flame and flaming duration, a four-stroke diesel engine was remodeled into a two-stroke visible single cylinder engine and a high speed video camera was used.

  • Pantograph sliding plate abrasion auto-detect system, one of the electric rail car auto-detecting devices, is a system that decides how much abrasion and when to replace without an inspector physically looking at the abrasion on the wet plate using machine vision, a cutting-edge technology. This paper covers the cause of deteriorating reliability that affects pantograph wet plate edge detection due to noise added to the video when it rains. In order to remove such noise, problems should be checked through Smoothing, Averaging mask and Median filter using filtering technique and stable edge detection without being affected by noise should be induced in video measurement used in machine vision technology.

  • When the train is running on the small curved line, there would be severe contact between the rail and wheels, which cause noise and vibration as well as abnormal wear on the rail and the wheels. In order to solve these problems, the steering bogie has been developed. To verify steering performance of the steering bogie, steering angles of two trains, one is the advanced EMU with the steering bogie, another is a conventional EMU with the conventional bogie, were measured while running on the small curve. this comparing test shows that the steering bogie has much higher steering performance than the conventional bogie on the same curved line. To verify more performance data of the steering bogie, further testing and monitoring will be done with the advanced EMU in the test track.

  • The Light Rail Transit (LRT) System which has medium transport capacity between subway and bus(5,000-25,000 persons per hour) is the most advanced transportation system. It has many benefits, cheap construction, operational costs through driverless and flexible route planning. Also, the rubber tired AGT (K-AGT) of various LRT has a rubber wheels and side guide. The side guide type has an many advantages. but occur a vibration and friction noise through contact between guide rail and wheel. Most of point that decreased comport is vibration thorough the guide contact. In this paper, It is purpose to improve the maximum running speed of rubber tired AGT localization bogie which is currently developed from 70km/h to 80km/h. To satisfy comport index of railway vehicle that is required in performance test. we examined coefficient of bogie suspension which is designed.

  • A Common-Rail Direct Injection (CRDI) system for high speed diesel engines was developed to meet reductions of noise and vibration, emission regulations. High pressure in the common rail with electric control allows the fuel quantity and injection timing to be optimized and controlled throughout a wide range of engine velocity and load conditions. In this study, CRDI system analysis model which includes fuel and mechanical systems was developed using commercial software, AMESim in order to predict characteristics for various fuel injection components. The parameter sensitivity analysis such as throttle size, injection rate, plunger displacement, supply pressure of fuel injection for system design are carried out.

  • This Study is about adoption of slab track on the new high speed railway line between Daegu and Busan. While ballast track currently used is easy to construct with low investment, the error margin of rail track occurs in the track due to the repetition load of the train. Therefore, repairs should be carried out all the time to put the railway track at the repair level or less. In addition, noise caused by such repairs has become a new social problem at night. Construction costs for slab track are about 1.3-1.5 times higher than those for ballast track. However, slab track will save labor costs by solving various problems of ballast track. In this regard, it is feasible to adopt slab track on the new high speed railway line between Daegu and Busan.

  • Rubber spring is used in primary suspension system for railway vehicle. This rubber spring has function which reduce vibration and noise, support the load carried in operation of rail vehicle. The non-linear properties of rubber which are described as strain energy function are important parameter to design and evaluate of rubber components. These are determined by material tests which are tension, compression and shear test. The behaviors of load-displacement of rubber spring for rail vehicle are evaluated by using commercial FEA code. It is shown that the results by FEA simulations are in close agreement with the test results

  • Chevron rubber springs are used in primary suspensions for rail vehicle. Chevron rubber spring have function which reduce vibration and noise, support load carried in operation of rail vehicle. Prediction and evaluation of characteristics are very important in design procedure to assure the safety and reliability of the rubber spring. The computer simulation using the nonlinear finite element analysis program executed to predict and evaluate the load capacity and stiffness for the chevron spring. The non-linear properties of rubber which are described as strain energy functions are important parameters. These are determined by material tests which are uniaxial tension, equi-biaxial tension and shear test. The appropriate shape and material properties are proposed to adjust the required characteristics of rubber springs in the three modes of flexibility.

  • The ERS(Embedded Rail Track system) is constructed in the world due to a slab track system having maintenance free, high structural safety, and deduction of noise and vibration. The ADRI-ERS is developed as Korean type. This paper shows that the design of ADRI-ERS and experiments according to DIN EN 13481-5 and Korea high speed train test guidelines. The ADRI-ERS has high structural safety in pull-out test, longitudinal resistance test, and fatigue test. The design method of ADRI-ERS is proposed by two design constants due to the result of experiments also.
