Recently, the flat wiper which is one piece wiper and subjected to a pressing force at a single center point is gaining wide applications on automotive windshields. However, nonuniform reactive pressure distributions takes place, so that wiping is not completed at such locations. The wiping performance of the flat wiper is best when a wiper and a curved windshield have perfect contact without gaps under the specified pressing force of 13 ~ 15 gf/cm. Therefore, it is necessary that the realistic curvature equation of a wiper spring-rail should be obtained. Finite element analysis, CATIA script-macro function, and the least square method were utilized to find out the curvature of a spring-rail for a perfect contact with a windshield under a specified concentrated load. The curvature equation became the third order polynomial.
This paper proposes an inspection robot that can operate on a single square rail. Various inspection robots have been developed to identify emergency situations in industrial environments, such as those involving fires or individuals with cardiac arrest. Because the robots must operate in wide areas and long tunnels, they are designed to move along a rail installed on the ceiling. Double rail track are typically used to ensure the stability of robot movement. However, the cost for installing a double rail track is nearly two times that for a single rail track. Moreover, it is challenging to install double rail tracks while ensuring the same curvature and interval between the two rails. Therefore, in this study, an inspection robot that operate on a single square rail track is developed. To ensure stable movement in the longitudinal and lateral directions, two passive guide parts are used, and the main active wheel is allowed to move on the upper side of the square rail. The prototype was manufactured, and experiments were performed for different robot velocities.
In this study, the deformations and stresses occurred in the elastic rail fastening system were evaluated according to applied extreme track forces based on various field conditions, track curvature and poor properties. The purpose of this study is to establish a method for efficient management and suggest guide line for track construction in order to secure the performance quality of the elastic rail fastening system on the sharp curved track.. Therefore, initial construction qualities of rail and concrete bed, initial clamping force and applied extreme track forces were used into experiment as several parameters. Using these test results, the performance characteristics of the elastic rail fastening system were also evaluated. As a result, it suggested the method to secure long-term durability of fastening system and comparing sharp curved track to results on field test.
Rails have residual stresses produced during manufacturing processes. The residual stresses play all important role on brittle fracture, fatigue strength and derailment by producing cracks in the web of rail. The web saw-cut test is a technique developed to measure the bulk longitudinal residual stress level. It is a simple mettled to estimate a stress intensity factor, $_{4}$ for a web crack by using the radii of curvature of the upper and lower portions of a cut rail. But according to this method, $_{4}$ varies along the rail length because the curvatures along tile rail length vary In this paper, tile residual stress was estimated by Finite Element Method and tile web saw-cut method. In addition tile variation of the residual stress with time was investigated.

An analytical procedure to determine a proper profile of the spring rail that generates intended contact pressure distribution in the flat wiper blade is introduced. The flat wiper blade is one piece blade and subjected to pressing force at a center point. In this type of blade, contact pressure distribution in the tip of rubber strip is determined by the pressing force, the initial profile of the blade before contact and bending stiffness of the blade. Experimentally obtained bending stiffness of the blade assembly is almost identical to that of the spring rail. Principle of reciprocity has been used to define the initial profile of spring rail from the deformed profile that is assumed to be identical to the windshield glass profile. The procedure has been verified experimentally by measuring the contact pressure of the blade assembled with the spring rail designed by the procedure proposed here. Measured contact pressure distributions of the blades show good agreements with intended distributions over the entire blade span. Consequently, it can be concluded that proposed procedure has relatively good accuracy in developing the spring rail for flat blade having a specific contact pressure distribution.
Generally, the analysis of railroad wear data is most effective method for the efficient railway maintenance. The wear of railway track affects loss of rough ride, noise or vibration of train and traveling safety. Moreover as the track is worn away, this promotes destruction of structural mechanism of rail track which can bring about increasing of rail track maintenance cost drastically. For this reason, it is very important and interested research subject to design railway track structure and to analyse train movement mechanism based on systematic analysis of the reasons causing rail wear possible in real field. In this research, for the efficient maintenance, Life Cycle Performance of rail track and maintenance characteristics are computed considering some track components such as track type, contracting type, sleeper type and roadbed type. Time - Wear probabilistic distribution relationship as well as multiple regression analysis based on time, curvature and wear data are computed to predict the service life remainder of railway track and to be adapted to safety assessment.
The wedge type rail clamp compresses the rails with small clamping force at first, and with large clamping force when the wind speed increases because of the wedge working. If the supporter is not installed in the rail clamp with V-type wedge when the wind speed increases more and more, the structure will occur overload which leads the structure to fracture. But in the clamp with U-type wedge the supporter is not necessary because the tangential angle of the wedge increases as the sliding distance increases. The proper shape of U-type wedge is determined by the initial clamping force and the tangential angle of the wedge. Accordingly we, first carry out the finite element analysis in order to analyze the relation between the sliding distance and the wedge angle. Next we suggest the proper shape of U-type wedge as analyze the relation between the radius of curvature and the sliding distance.
The thermal buckling analysis of curved continuous welded rail (CWR) is studied for the lateral buckling prevention. This study includes a thermal buckling theory which accounts for both thermal and vehicle loading effects in the evaluation of track stability. The parameters include rail size, track lateral resistance, track longitudinal and torsional stiffnesses, initial misalignment amplitude and wavelength, track curvature, tie-ballast friction coefficient and truck center spacing. Parametric studies are performed to evaluate the effects of the individual parameters on the upper and lower critical buckling temperatures. The results show that the upper critical buckling temperature is highly affected by the uplift due to vehicle loads. This study provides a guideline for the improvement of stability for dynamic buckling in curved CWR track.
The coefficient of derailment and the rate of wheel load reduction were used as the index of train running safety that was directly affected the train derailment safety. In aspects of track, the train running safety depends on the complex interaction between wheel and rail, and the track-vehicle conditions (i.e., the curvature, cant, track system, vehicle speed and the operation conditions, etc). In this study, the relationship between the train running safety and the track curvature and vehicle speed for direct fixation concrete tracks currently employed in Korean light rapid transit was assessed by performing field tests using actual vehicles running along the service lines. The measured dynamic wheel load, lateral wheel load and lateral displacement of rail head were measured for same train running on four tested tracks under real conditions, which included curved and tangent tracks placed on the tunnel and bridge, thus increasing the train speed by approximately maximum design speed of each test site. Therefore, the measured dynamic track response was applied to the running safety analysis in order to evaluate the coefficient of derailment, the rate of wheel load reduction and the track gauge widening at each test site, and compare with the corresponding Korean train running safety standard. As the results, the lateral track response of direct fixation concrete track appeared to increase with the decreased track curvature; therefore, it was inferred that the track curvature directly affected the train running safety.

With the latest automobile technology, though the third generation common rail system requires high injection pressures up to 1,800bar, the next generation diesel engine is expected to require more higher pressures than the third generation. The common rail pipe requires higher strength because it is one of the parts in the common rail system, which is influenced directly by fuel under high pressure. Preform design is very important for preventing head of the common rail pipe from folding in the heading process. In this study, die angle, curvature, outer diameter of die and length of trapped part are selected as main parameters to obtain best preform shape minimizing radius of folding. Therefore optimal design is carried out by finite element analysis and Taguchi method through main parameters. Results of the finite element analysis have good agreements with those of the experiments in the actual field.
