Dynamic behavior of high speed train is very important because the high speed train should be safe and satisfied with the ride comfort. An eddy current brake system is mounted on trailer bogie and wheelset. The eddy current braking force longitudinally exerts on the articulated trailer bogie and the attraction force vertically exerts on the wheelset. Because a frame of eddy current brake system is flexible, these forces generate the vertical vibration at middle point of the frame. Also, the vibration change the vertical clearance between an electromagnet and top of rail which affect the magnitude of braking and attracting forces. Therefore, the dynamic behavior of the eddy current braking system must be predicted for design the dynamic characteristic of its mounting system when normally operate on rail which have irregularity. Vampire program is used for prediction of the dynamic behavior of an eddy current braking system. Five design variables and five performance index are considered for optimization through D-optimal experimental design in this paper. Also model center is used to search the optimal point for sum of performance index with variational matric method.
Station is an important building in high-speed railway, and its vibration and noise may significantly affect the comfort of waiting passengers. A coupling vibration model for train-structure system is established to analyze and evaluate the vibration level of a typical waiting hall under dynamic train load. The motion of a four-axle vehicle with two suspension system is modeled in multi-body dynamics with linear springs and dampers employed. The station is modeled as a whole finite element structure which is 113 m in longitudinal and 163.5 m in lateral, and the stiffness of the station foundation is considered. According to the assumptions that both wheel and rail are rigid bodies and keep contact to each other in vertical direction, and the wheel/rail interaction and displacement coordination in horizontal direction is defined by the simplified Kalker creep theory, the vehicle spatial vibration model has 27 degrees-of-freedom. An overall analysis procedure is made of the train moving through the station, by which the dynamic responses of the train and the station are calculated. According to the comparison between analysis and test results, the actual connection status between different parts of the station is estimated and the vibration level of the waiting hall is evaluated.

Model trains should have very similar motion characteristics to real trains in order to provide realistic feeling to their operators. Main purpose of dynamic analysis of model trains is to predict velocities in straight and circular tracks and estimate stopping distance after power shut off. Equations of motion for a model train are derived that relates velocity, traction, rolling resistance, and pulling force. Also, energy equations for calculating stopping distance after power shut off are derived. Experiments with model trains are preformed to measure velocity, rolling resistance, slip, and stopping distance. The results are compared with the prediction based on the equations of motion, and they showed good agreement. It can be concluded that the prediction is more accurate when the slip between wheel and rail is accounted for. The analysis procedures can be applied to determining various design factors in model trains.
Dynamic analysis is necessary for the High-Speed Railway vehicle which aims to run on max 400km/h. Especially, dynamic simulation using CAE(Computer Aided Engineering) can help to reduce the time of development of the High-Speed Railway vehicles. Also, it helps to reduce prices and improve the quality such as safety, stability and ride. There are many dynamic software for a railway vehicle, such as Vampire and ADAMS-Rail. There are limitations for each software and difficulties to analyze overall dynamics for entire railway system. To overcome these limitations, in this study, a program which can simulate entire railway vehicles was developed. This program is easy to use because it was developed using C++, which is object-oriented programming language. In addition, the basic platform for the development of dynamic solver is prepared using the nodal, modal coordinate system with a wheel-rail contact module. Rigid, flexible and large deformable body systems can be modeled by a user according to the characteristic of a desired system. Its reliability is verified by comparison with a commercial analysis program.
Special track systems used to divert a train to other directions or other tracks are generally called 'railway turnout'. A traditional turnout system consists of steel rails, switches, crossings, steel plates, fasteners, screw spikes, timber bearers, ballast and formation. The wheel rail contact over the crossing transfer zone has a dip-like shape and can often cause detrimental impact loads on the railway track and its components. The large impact also emits disturbing noises (either impact or ground-borne noise) to railway neighbors. In a brown-field railway track where an existing aged infrastructure requires renewal or maintenance, some physical constraints and construction complexities may dominate the choice of track forms or certain components. With the difficulty to seek for high-quality timbers with dimensional stability, a methodology to replace aged timber bearers in harsh dynamic environments is to adopt an alternative material that could mimic responses and characteristics of timber in both static and dynamic loading conditions. A critical review has suggested an application of an alternative material called fibre-reinforced foamed urethane (FFU). The full-scale capacity design makes use of its comparable engineering characteristics to timber, high-impact attenuation, high damping property, and a longer service life. A field trial to investigate in-situ behaviours of a turnout grillage system using an alternative material, 'fibre-reinforced foamed urethane (FFU)' bearers, has been carried out at a complex turnout junction under heavy mixed traffics at Hornsby, New South Wales, Australia. The turnout junction was renewed using the FFU bearers altogether with new special track components. Influences of the FFU bearers on track geometry (recorded by track inspection vehicle 'AK Car'), track settlement (based on survey data), track dynamics, and acoustic characteristics have been measured. Operational train pass-by measurements have been analysed to evaluate the effectiveness of the replacement methodology. Comparative studies show that the use of FFU bearers generates higher rail and sleeper accelerations but the damping capacity of the FFU help suppress vibration transferring onto other track components. The survey data analysis suggests a small vertical settlement and negligible lateral movement of the turnout system. The static and dynamic behaviours of FFU bearers appear to equate that of natural timber but its service life is superior.

This paper presents the conceptual design and reaction force analysis of a bogie structure for an inter-modal automated transportation system, including road and rail transportation. The proposed system was based on a train with rotation-aligning bogie mechanism that can save significant time and cost. One of the critical issues in conceptual design is the lateral forces applied to the rail caused by the characteristic shapes and structure of the rails and bogie. In particular, the lateral forces are significant in the transition section between the driving and platform sections. This paper provides design guidance for the transition section through reaction force analysis. Based on the analysis result, it was confirmed that the proposed concept can be a valid design candidate of a practical system, and the radius of the rail and the distance between rails are major factors for reaction force generation.
This paper describes the construction of a half sphere screen driving tilting simulator that can perform six degree-of-freedom( DOF) motions simmulator to a tilting train. The mathematical equations of Tilting Train dynamics are first derived from the 6-DOF bicycle model and incorporated with the bogie. carbody, and suspension subsystems. The equations of motion are then programmed by visual C++ code. To achieve the simulator functions. a motion platform that is constructed by six electric-driven actuators is designed. and its kinetics/inverse kinetics analysis is also conducted. Driver operation signals such as carbady angle, accelerator. and tilting positions are measured to trigger the Tilting dynamics calculation and further actuate the cylinders by the motion platform control program. In addition. a digital PID controller is added to achieve the stable and accurate displacements of the motion platform. The experiments prove that the designed simulator is adequate in performing some special rail mad driving situations discussed in this paper.
The semi-active optimal vibration control of nonlinear torsion-bar suspension vehicle systems under random road excitations is an important research subject, and the boundedness of MR dampers and the uncertainty of vehicle systems are necessary to consider. In this paper, the differential equations of motion of the coupling torsion-bar suspension vehicle system with MR damper under random road excitation are derived and then transformed into strongly nonlinear stochastic coupling vibration equations. The dynamical programming equation is derived based on the stochastic dynamical programming principle firstly for the nonlinear stochastic system. The semi-active bounded parametric optimal control law is determined by the programming equation and MR damper dynamics. Then for the uncertain nonlinear stochastic system, the minimax dynamical programming equation is derived based on the minimax stochastic dynamical programming principle. The worst-case disturbances and corresponding semi-active bounded parametric optimal control are obtained from the programming equation under the bounded disturbance constraints and MR damper dynamics. The control strategy for the nonlinear stochastic vibration of the uncertain torsion-bar suspension vehicle system is developed. The good effectiveness of the proposed control is illustrated with numerical results. The control performances for the vehicle system with different bounds of MR damper under different vehicle speeds and random road excitations are discussed.
A numerical model for analyzing air-train-track interaction is proposed to investigate the dynamic behavior of a high-speed train running on a track in crosswinds. The model is composed of a train-track interaction model and a train-air interaction model. The train-track interaction model is built on the basis of the vehicle-track coupled dynamics theory. The train-air interaction model is developed based on the train aerodynamics, in which the Arbitrary Lagrangian-Eulerian (ALE) method is employed to deal with the dynamic boundary between the train and the air. Based on the air-train-track model, characteristics of flow structure around a high-speed train are described and the dynamic behavior of the high-speed train running on track in crosswinds is investigated. Results show that the dynamic indices of the head car are larger than those of other cars in crosswinds. From the viewpoint of dynamic safety evaluation, the running safety of the train in crosswinds is basically controlled by the head car. Compared with the generally used assessment indices of running safety such as the derailment coefficient and the wheel-load reduction ratio, the overturning coefficient will overestimate the running safety of a train on a track under crosswind condition. It is suggested to use the wheel-load reduction ratio and the lateral wheel-rail force as the dominant safety assessment indices when high-speed trains run in crosswinds.

This occurs when the unbalanced rotating body is inconsistent with the mass center line axis geometric center line. Wheelsets are assembled by a single axle with two wheels and a rotating body of a running railway vehicle. Owing to non-uniformity of the wheel material, the wear, and error of the wheel and axle assembly may cause an imbalance. Wheelsets will suffer the effects of vibrations due to the unbalanced mass, which becomes more pronounced due to the thin and high-speed rotation compared to the shaft diameter This can affect the driving safety and the running behavior of a rail car during high-speed running. Therefore, this study examined this unbalanced wheel using a railway vehicle multibody dynamics analysis tool to assess the impact of the dynamic VI-Rail movement of high-speed railway vehicles. Increasing the extent of wheel imbalance on the analysis confirmed that the critical speed of a railway vehicle bogie is reduced and the high-speed traveling dropped below the vehicle dynamic behaviour. Therefore, the adverse effects of the amount of a wheel imbalance on travel highlight the need for management of wheel imbalances. In addition, the static and dynamic management needs of a wheel imbalance need to be presented to the national rail vehicles operating agency.
