  • In this paper, the authors showed that the removal of impulse noise in CR images was implemented using variety of median filters and SNR/PSNR measurements. They used three kinds of medical images-hand, skull, and knee- for experimental results. But the noise in CR image was only the impulse noise. In real medical image, the noise of an image would be very different type. Therefore. the lack of experimental results using different noise in CR images is one flaw.

  • Purpose: To assess the angle between mandibular canal and occlusal plane at each posterior tooth region and location of mental foramen on the panoramic radiographs. Materials and Methods: This study analysed 46 half-mandibles of panoramic radiographs. Inferior border of mandibular canal was traced. Occlusal plane was drawn from lingual cusp tip of the first premolar to distolingual cusp tip of the second molar. Perpendicular line from occlusal plane was drawn at each tooth region and then tangential lines were drawn from the crossing points at canal. the angle between occlusal plane and tangential line was measured. The location of mental foramen was also studied. According to the location of mental foramen, radiographs were divided into M (mesial) group and D (distal) group on the basis of the second premolar. and then inter-group analysis about mandibular canal angle was done. Results: The angles of mandibular canals were -17.7$^{\circ}$, -9.5$^{\circ}$, 8.2$^{\circ}$, 22.3$^{\circ}$, and 39.2$^{\circ}$at first premolar, second premolar, first molar, second molar, and third molar, respectively. The commonest position of the mental foramen was distal to the second premolar. Inter-group comparison showed statistically significant difference at the second premolar and the first molar(p<0.001). Conclusion: The knowledge of mandibular canal angle and location of mental foramen can help understanding the course of mandibular canal. (Korean J Oral Maxillofac Radiol 2009; 39: 89-92)

  • In this report, atlantooccipital assimilation (AS), anterior arch defect (AAD), and posterior arch defect (PAD) of the atlas, and several variations around the craniocervical junction were identified on computed tomography (CT) of a patient of unknown sex and age. Coronal and sagittal CT scans showed AS and bilateral fusion of the atlas and the base of occipital bone. Axial CT scan at the atlas revealed PAD type B on the left side and midline AAD. Morphometric measurements indicated a potential ventral spinal cord compression. In addition, mid-sagittal CT revealed the presence of fossa navicularis magna and incomplete formation of the transverse foramen on the right side. This study reports an extremely rare AS associated with AAD, PAD, and other variations of the clivus and the atlas. To our knowledge, no similar case has been reported in the literature.

  • In the field of angiography and interventional radiology, it is said that the risk of radiation exposure to the eyes is high due to the characteristics of work, but currently divided dose assessment and management are not carried out in reality. Therefore, in this study, in order to evaluate the dose of the operator in the surgical environment and to analyze the shields, firstly, we selected the point where the operator is mainly located, evaluated the exposure dose of the eye after attaching the pocket dosimeter to the lateral angle point of the head and neck phantom, and evaluate shielding effect when wearing lead glasses that is currently commercialized. Secondly, we evaluated the tendency of the exposure dose of the eye and the shielding effect through simulation in the same geometric structure as the actual measurement. As a result, in the case of measurement using a dosimeter, the cumulative dose increased with the increase of the fluoroscopic time, and the tendency was different according to the position of the operator. Simulation results show that the dose distribution of the eye lens in the mathematical phantom is about 1.1 ~ 1.3 times higher than that of the cornea. Also, The protective effect of the lead glasses showed a shielding effect of at least 3.7 ~ 21.4% in each eye.

  • Education in radiology involves a large portion of practical training, and it is difficult to conduct it through non-face-to-face online education. In this study, we utilized the Metaverse platform, which can replace hands-on education, to implement a practice room that is difficult to access through non-face-to-face classes into a virtual world, and then evaluated the satisfaction of learners after the practice class, the practicality of the Metaverse platform class, and the future orientation of the curriculum. I wanted to find out. Using the metaverse platforms ZEPETO (Build It) and ZEP (ZEP), the S University radiology department lab was implemented into a virtual world and used for students' classes. A total of 50 students were surveyed twice, divided into pre- and post-surveys, and all questions used a 5-point Likert scale. As a result of the study, satisfaction was low at 2.32 for education without using Metaverse virtual space, while education using virtual space was very high at 4.16. As a result of the analysis, the satisfaction level of the new education system and the practicality of the Metaverse platform classes are very high, and it is believed that it will be a more effective education platform when conducting additional education such as app explanations in the future.

  • The principal objective of this study was to develop a scanning technique that helps patients reduce their anxiety and relax their physical tension in the MRI system. The study targeted 10 healthy persons with no medical history of anxiety disorder in the past and with no current clinically diagnosed anxiety disorder, as well as 10 patients who were currently experiencing an anxiety disorder during the MRI scanning. The focusing board assembly was self-manufactured to conduct a clinical experiment via MRI scans. As a method to confirm the efficacy of the experiment, the bio meter was used to measure brainwaves from the study targets that were divided into the normal person group (A), who felt no anxiety in the MRI system and the experimental group, (B) who did experience anxiety in the MRI system. The two groups were compared between the cases in which the focusing board assembly was used and not used after measurements were conducted using the model MRI system and the bio meter. According to the comparison and analysis results, low measurements of the ${\alpha}$ wave indicate highly effective relaxation of tension. In the normal person group, the ${\alpha}$ wave measurement showed almost no difference between cases in which the focusing board assembly was used and cases in which it was not used. In the experimental group, the $\acute{a}$ wave measurements were lower in cases in which the focusing board assembly was used than in cases in which the focusing board assembly was not used; this was indicative of a profound relaxation effect.

  • Wrist PA-grip view is used to diagnose triangular fibrocartilage complex (TFCC) tear because it can easily diagnose damage to the surrounding wrist ligaments. However, despite advances in radiology equipment, distortion of images due to geometric elements still has many limitations. In this paper, we propose a method that can minimize the distortions of images by analyzing the distortions occurring in the wrist PA-grip view. A source of image distance (SID) were set at 130 cm and 150 cm for comparison with 110 cm. Depending on the SID, the phantom of wrist was moved at 0, 2, 4, 6, 8, and 10 cm in the X-axis and Y-axis directions, respectively. For quantitative evaluation, the difference of distance between the radius and ulna was measured in picture archiving and communication system (PACS) system. As a qualitative evaluation, survey was conducted among 20 radiologic technologists who examined the Wrist PA-grip view. The Kruskal Wallis test was performed to compare the distortion according to the phantom movement in the X-axis and Y-axis directions based on the SID, and the Tukey test was performed as a post-test. In the quantitative evaluation results, the measured values obtained in the X-axis was not significantly different in all groups (p>0.05). The measured values obtained in the Y-axis was significantly different in the most groups (p<0.05). Therefore, to reduce distortion while maintaining image quality, we recommend what examine the SID at 150 cm than 110 cm.
