  • IVR procedures are on the rise, and patient doses are on the rise. It is necessary to evaluate fluoroscopy dose in IVR procedure. Evaluate ESD on IVR equipment as a reference to DRL settings, I would like to present the direction of improvement in the ESD rate test criteria for fluoroscopy dose. The experimental method is measured with 6cc ionization chamber under the 20cm PMMA Phantom. Radiation is subject to abdominal procedure. The average dose rate of the incident surface was 21.6 ± 11.4 mGy/min. The highest dose equipment was 58.5 mGy/min, and there was no equipment exceeding the domestic standard of 100 mGy/min. However, there were five units above 50 mGy/min. To reduce fluoroscopy dose, it is recommended to reduce pulse rate, The dose increases as the image receptor ages. It is recommended to modify the domestic inspection criteria to 50 mGy/min.

  • $^{222}Rn$ exists in nature in the form of a rare radioactive gas. In terms of environmental radiation, issues regarding $^{222}Rn$ have persisted because of its radiological hazardousness. Ulju County is one of the regions of Ulsan metropolitan city, with a population of 227,699. Ulju County has the highest density of industrial complexes in Korea. In this study, $^{222}Rn$ radioactivity concentration was measured and analyzed in 57 schools in Ulju County using 114 passive LR-115 type detectors to secure radiological safety and confirm basic information for reduction of resident exposure to $^{222}Rn$. The effective dose of $^{222}Rn$ was assessed to find the actual risk of the concentration surveyed in schools to human beings. The dose depended on four factors: subjects, $^{222}Rn$ concentration, dose coefficient, and time. The individuals subjected to dose estimation were classified into three types: students, teachers, and office workers. The subjects had different dwelling locations and times. The findings demonstrate that the radiological hazard to students and workers at schools in Ulju County owing to $^{222}Rn$ is negligible in terms of $^{222}Rn$ activity recommendation level.

  • Lead apron is harmful to the human body because it is made at heavy metals, and when worn for long periods of time, it causes pain. Therefore, this paper intended to improve the defects of lead apron by using new material shields. For the comparative evaluation of lead and new material shieldes, the shielding rate and weight were measured and tested based on lead 0.5 mmPb. The rate of shielding was 97% based on lead at 0.5 mm thickness, while The new material shield T3 showed similar shielding rates as lead in 8 layers, and in T2 these values were measured in 11 layers. In addition, similar shielding rate was measured in 12 layers at B2, and 8 layers in BF, and 4 layers in $BF_2$. Comparing the weight of cases when commercialized with apron, T3, T2 and B2 were heavier than lead apron. But BF, $BF_2$ were lighter than the lead apron. Based on the results of the experiment, T3 and T2 can be used as an alternative to lead if human or environmental hazards are considered a priority. However, BF and $BF_2$ should be used if the reduction of external exposure is considered a priority.

  • Magnetic resonance imaging is a technique specialized in soft tissue imaging with high contrast resolution without in vivo ionization and has been widely used in various clinical settings. In particular, the recent increase in social stress factors has been used in the diagnosis of pituitary adenoma, the incidence increases rapidly. Recently, due to the development of magnetic resonance imaging, it is possible to diagnose micro pituitary adenoma, but despite the use of contrast medium, there has been a difficulty in diagnosing the pituitary adenoma due to its small size and noise. In order to solve this problem, a proposed method of separating signal components image and noise components image from a measured image is applied, and the improvement of diagnostic efficiency is attempted by removing noise. As a result, it was confirmed that the image quality was improved as a whole by applying SNR for 30 subjects data. It is expected that this study will be useful as a pre-processing method for improving the image quality and developing diagnostic indicators of pituitary adenoma.

  • The purpose of this study was to examine the importance of proper positioning in chest PA X-ray examination. As a study method, this author searched for and analyzed materials related to chest PA X-ray examination from theses and books that had been published previously to understand the importance of proper positioning in chest PA X-ray examination. Generally, one of the examinations frequently done in most of the hospitals is chest PA X-ray examination. Also, in any kinds of X-ray examination, proper positioning is the most fundamental and definite way to provide accurate information about the patient. Poor positioning in chest PA X-ray examination may jeopardize the diagnosis and treatment, increase social cost due to examination needed to be done additionally, and generate additional radiation exposure unnecessarily above all. In conclusion, it is expected that proper positioning in chest PA X-ray examination will exert positive effects such as the provision of accurate information about the patient, prevention of misdiagnosis, reduction in social cost, and lastly decrease in radiation exposure.

  • This study was designated to investigate the bremsstrahlung and radiation dose by beta rays. Radiation attenuation from I-131 treatment ward was analyzed using radio protective apron. Shielding materials which is included lead or water were simulated in Monte Carlo Simulation then the spectrum on interaction was analyzed. The shielding materials were categorized according to the thickness. 0.25mm and 0.5mm thick lead and 0.1mm and 0.2mm thick water shielding materials were configured in Monte Carlo Simulation for this study. Only lead shielding method and water plus lead shielding method were carried. As a results, when 0.5mm thick lead shielding method was performed, the radiation dose was similar to the results with water plus lead shielding method. In case of using 0.25mm thick lead shielding, the shielding effect was somewhat less. However, that shielding method cause dose reduction of about 60% compare with non-shielding material.

  • The paper is on the record of radiography the patients with SIEMENS ANGIOSTAR/POLYTRON S PLUS angiosystem with DSA system in the Chonbuk National University Hospital from October 1993 to June 1994. The results are as follow : 1. Among the total No, 836 case of utilization, angiography are 316(37.8 %), interventional radiography are 256(34.2 %), and dacryocystography and sialography are 168(20/1 %). Therefore non-angiogrlphy procedure are incerasing. 2. The aomunt of contrast material used are half as much as conventional angiovascular system. 3. The amount of film consumed are $10{\sim}15%$ of that of conventional angio vascular system and reduction of procedure time are $40{\sim}50%$. 4. Admitting that dignostic utility is in the utilization by examination region, there should be technological study which deal with fine vessel and motion artifact problem.

  • The aim of this study is to propose the desirable plan of the diagnostic radiology department in general hospital. The main contents and results of this study are as follows. 1. By investigating and analyzing the activities and circulation of the patients and staffs in diagnostic radiology department, the activity model of the department was extracted. 2. The types of operating system of the department were extracted and activity model by the operating systems were made. 3. The types of the plan of the department were classified into three types, such as confusing-corridor type, separated-corridor type and contract type. 4. After dividing them into eight types in detail, the merits and demerits of each type were analyzed. 5. Among those types contact types were evaluated best in comparison with the other types in terms of efficiency of staff's work, access of patients to staffs and reduction of staffs movement.

  • When it is assumed that PWR, CANDU and DUPIC spent fuels are disposed of in deep geological repository, consequent annual individual doses are calculated, and it is shown that doses meet the regulatory limit. From these results, the hazardous radionuclides applicable to partitioning and transmutation are selected. These selected radionuclides such as Tc-99, Ⅰ-129, Cs-135 and Np-237 are then reviewed in terms of partitioning and transmutation. Separation of I-129, Np-237 and Tc-99 from spent fuels is considered desirable, and transmutation of these radionuclides results in remarkable hazard reduction. However, it is concluded that separation and transmutation of Cs-135 may be ineffective although it is classified into a hazardous radionuclide.
