  • Though the digital transition of terrestrial TV has been completed, the transmission system for terrestrial radio has not been determined and terrestrial radio still keeps its analog transmission. This study, under coorientation model, aims to explore the cognitive difference in recognizing important factors to be considered in deciding the digital radio transmission system between the employees of terrestrial broadcasters and then crucial issues related to the factors are driven. It has been found that the most big cognitive difference among the employees of three major terrestrial broadcasters lies in selecting frequency band for digital radio transmission. But there was little difference of opinion on simultaneous production-transmission, efficiency of frequency usage, broadcast quality and standards of service. The most disputable point in transition to digital radio broadcasting is selecting the frequency band for digital radio between the frequency bands used for FM radio broadcast (88-108MHz), terrestrial DMB (VHF Ch7~13) and FM radio adjacent broadcast band (76~88MHz: VHF Ch5~6). So, the question concludes into the selection issue between DAB+, HD-Radio, and DRM+. To improve the quality of radio broadcasting service and enhance the satisfaction of listeners, it is desirable to allow to operate both production system and transmission station, to enhance high transmission efficiency with minimum transmission facility, and to permit new entrance of broadcasters.

  • To fit the limited volume and power consumption of the passive radio frequency transmission system of the electronic time fuze, an improved coded mark inversion (CMI) is proposed in this letter. From the performance analysis, the energy transmission efficiency of this encoding method is at least 50% higher than that of CMI and NRZ. Finally, the experiment results show that by adopting this improved CMI, the change of DC voltage through magnetic coupling is lower than 0.2 V when the accuracy of data transmission is above 99.5%.

  • The radio noise produced by corona discharge in high voltage transmission tines is one of the most important line design considerations. Therefore it is necessary to pre-evaluate radio noise for transmission line designers using Prediction formulas or field test results. In this Paper, more accurate and useful formulas for Predicting radio noise during fair and foul weathers in AC transmission lines were proposed through comparison with the existing formulas. Also it was verified by comparing with the long-term measured data from operating lines that the Proposed formulas are very accurate. The Proposed prediction formulas are developed by the applications of nonlinear least square optimization method to radio noise database collected from lines throughout the world.

  • A multi-ray model has been used to interpret radio transmission losses in half-canyon structures with slope and to formulate a multi-ray propagation model depending on the angle of slopes. The cut-off angles for the third and fourth paths, which are the slope-sided reflection paths of the transmission and reception radio waves determined by the inclined angles of the slope, were calculated with the height and location of the transmitter and receiver. To predict transmission losses in an inclined plane environment, the embankment environment where the actual slope exists was modeled and simulated to calculate the loss of propagation transmission, and the radio wave transmission loss was confirmed by the measurement for the frequency band 1 to 6 GHz. Simulation results and measurement results showed similar trends in radio transmission loss, and radio transmission loss predictions and measurement results for various terrain information can be used in the design of radio propagation service.

  • AM radio broadcasting has the advantage that the sound quality is lower than that of FM radio but the service area is wide and at night it can be transmitted even to overseas due to ionospheric reflection. AM radio broadcasts usually transmit large amounts of several tens to several hundreds of kilowatts (KW), requiring a lot of power, which is a financial burden on broadcasters. Recently, it is required to introduce a way to reduce the power of AM radio broadcasting in Korea. Therefore, it is possible to save a certain amount of power compared to the conventional AM radio broadcasting, and it is possible to maintain the existing license service area and sound quality, and what policies are needed to introduce the technology. In this paper, we predict the reduction of transmission power when a high efficiency transmission system is applied to existing AM radio broadcasting transmission system. As a result of the research, AMC adopting the high efficiency transmission method instead of the conventional AM radio transmission method, and when the modulation ratio of AM radio is 70%, if -3 dB companding is applied, the annual transmission power charge is decreased from 5,185,838,160Won to 3,528,900,086Won with saving of 32.0%, When -6 dB companding is applied, it is expected to be reduced to 2,608,378,934Won, which is 49.7% savings.

  • We investigate theoretically the combined effect of fiber chromatic dispersion and self-phase modulation (SPM) on multi-channel subcarrier multiplexed (SCM) optical transmission systems in terms of the detected RF carrier power and SPM-induced power gain after transmission over single-mode fiber (SMF) links. According to the calculated power gain due to the SPM effect at the transmission distance of P3dB using the detected radio-frequency (RF) carrier power after photo-detection, the power gain is significantly degraded with large optical modulation index (OMI), small SCM channel spacing, and large fiber launching power because of the increased interaction between subcarrier channels. The nonlinear phase shift due to linear and nonlinear fiber characteristics is investigated to explain these results in detail. The numerical simulation results show that the OMI per SCM channel has to be smaller than 10 % for the fiber launching power of 10 dBm to guarantee prevention of SPM-induced power gain degradation below 0.5 dB for the SCM system with the channel spacing of 100 MHz. This result is expected to be utilized for the optical transmission systems using the SCM technology in future radio-over-fiber (RoF) networks.

  • This paper aims to implement RAN(Radio Access Network) transmission system that can reduce the transmission cost by installing between mobile base station and base station controller. This system can reduce the number of transmission links by sharing the transmission link that the mobile communication stations of various generation use separately. This also can classify the traffics non-sensitive to delay time, and then transfer them through Ethernet/IP network.

  • In cognitive radio (CR), secondary users (SUs) are able to sense the absence of primary users (PUs) in the spectrum. Then, SUs use this information to opportunistically access the licensed spectrum in the PUs' absence. In this paper, we present an implementation of real-time video transmission with spectrum-sensing between two points using GNU Radio and a National Instruments 2900 Universal Software Radio Peripheral (USRP). In our project, spectrum-sensing is implemented at both transmitter and receiver. The transmitter senses the channel, and if the channel is free, a video signal (which could be a real-time signal from a video file) will be modulated and processed by GNU Radio and transmitted using a USRP. A USRP receiver also senses the channel, but in contrast, if the channel is busy, the signal is demodulated to reproduce the transmitted video signal. This project brings in several challenges, like spectrum-sensing in the devices' environment, and packets getting lost or corrupted over the air.

  • In cognitive radio networks (CRNs), SU (secondary user)'s transmissions are frequently disrupted by PU (primary user)'s transmission. Therefore SU expereiences consecutive retransmission timeout and its exponential backoff, and subsequently, the TCP of SU does not proceed with the transmission even after the disruption is over or the SU succeeds to hold an idle channel. In order to solve this problem, we propose a cross-layer approach called TCP-Freeze-CR. Moreover we consider a practical scenario where either secondary transmitter (ST) or secondary receiver (SR) detects PU's transmission, which results in the need of spectrum synchronization mechanism. All of our proposals are implemented and verified with a real CRN testbed consisting of 6 software radios called USRP. The experimental results illustrate that standard TCP suffers from significant performance degradation and show that TCP-Freeze-CR greatly mitigates the degradation.
