  • A mathematical heat transfer model for the prediction of heat flux on the slab surface and temperature distribution in the slab has been developed by considering the thermal radiation in the furnace and transient conduction governing equations in the slab, respectively. The furnace is modeled as radiating medium with spatially varying temperature and constant absorption coefficient. The slab is moved with constant speed through non-firing, charging, preheating, heating, and soaking zones in the furnace. Radiative heat flux which is calculated from the radiative heat exchange within the furnace modeled using the FVM by considering the effect of furnace wall, slab, and combustion gases is applied as the boundary condition of the transient conduction equation of the slab. Heat transfer characteristics and temperature behavior of the slab is investigated by changing such parameters as absorption coefficient and emissivity of the slab. Comparison with the experimental work shows that the present heat transfer model works well for the prediction of thermal behavior of the slab in the reheating furnace.

  • We study the properties of supernova (SN) driven interstellar turbulence with a numerical magnetohydrodynamic (MHD) model. Calculations were done using the RIEMANN framework for MHD, which is highly suited for astrophysical flows because it tracks shocks using a Riemann solver and ensures pressure positivity and a divergence-free magnetic field. We start our simulations with a uniform density threaded by a uniform magnetic field. A simplified radiative cooling curve and a constant heating rate are also included. In this radiatively-cooling magnetized medium, we explode SNe one at a time at randomly chosen positions with SN explosion rates equal to and 12 times higher than the Galactic value. The evolution of the system is basically determined by the input energy of SN explosions and the output energy of radiative cooling. We follow the simulations to the point where the total energy of the system, as well as thermal, kinetic, and magnetic energy individually, has reached a quasi-stationary value. From the numerical experiments, we find that: i) both thermal and dynamical processes are important in determining the phases of the interstellar medium, and ii) the power index n of the $B-p^n$ relation is consistent with observed values.

  • We present 2-dimensional continuum radiative transfer modeling for EC53. EC 53 is a Class I YSO, which was brightened at $850{\mu}m$ by a factor of 1.5. This luminosity variation was revealed by the JCMT Transient Survey. The increase in brightness is likely related to the enhanced accretion. We aim to investigate how much increase of protostellar luminosity causes the observed brightness increase at $850{\mu}m$. Thus we modeled the SED of EC 53 both in the quiescence and (small scale) outburst phases, with and without the external heating from the interstellar radiation field (ISRF). We found that the internal protostellar luminosity should increase more to fit the observed flux enhancement if the ISRF is considered in the model.

  • In general existing air conditioning devices, which are carried out by convection heat transfer, are very popular compared with the radiation type air conditioning devices. But perconal convection tpe air conditioning units are unuseful air conditioning type because it handles amount of surrounded air to meet the temperature and humidity. In this view, this study is intended to develope personal dir conditioning units using a radiation type radiator. Liquid Droplet Radiator(L.P.R.) radiates the energy by means of thermal radiation. Radiative energy from L.P.R. is the infrared rays which heat the objects without lose of energy. It is a desirable heating method for the local area within the large room. In this study, the analysis uses the Monte Carlo methd to predict the temperature distribution in the droplet sheet and the net heat flux from the L.D.R.. And for this study and experiment was carried out to analyse the radiative and convective heat transfer characteristics in the L.D.R.. And the experiment was investigated the effects of inlet temperature, feed rate, optical thickness and droplet diameter on heat transfer characteristics of L.D.R.. The obtained results from the numerical and experimental studies of L.D.R. were as follows ; (1) The heat flux of L.D.R. was effected by extinction coefficient of droplet sheet, optical thickness and droplet temperature, surface area and emissivity of the droplet. And it was increased with the temperature, feed rate and optical thickness, on the other hand decreased with increasing of droplet diameter. (2) The experimental results for heat flux was ecalucted below 20% than that of the numerical solution by Monte Carlo method, but the tendency of the variation shows relatively good agreement.

  • Infrared heating has been traditionally used in industrial applications for processes such as dehydration of food industrial. This heating method involves the application of radiation in the wavelength range of 2 to 50 micrometers. In this work, simultaneous heat balance equations were developed to simulate the infrared radiation heating of agricultural products. The equations assume that moisture diffuses to the outer boundaries of the material in liquid form and evaporation occurs at the surface of the agricultural products. Energy for moisture evaporation is supplied by the infrared radiant energy. The optimum temperature and drying time for the best drying conditions of changing the red peppers with the moisture content of 18% and the restore rate of 80~85% are $80^{\circ}C$ and 44 hours. The performance of radiation tubes coating with the radiation paint developed in this research has the energy of $2.27{\times}103W/m^2{\mu}m$, $150^{\circ}C$ within the scope of radiation wave length of $2{\sim}30{\mu}m$ and has the radiation 0.92~0.93, which is superior to the general radiation tubes. The extinction coefficient according to the band pass filter using the 4 flux theory ha higher dependability on wave length, accounting for $2{\sim}17{\mu}m$ and $5{\times}105{\sim}106m-1$. A comparison between the theoretical energy transfer whose figures are interpreted according to 4 flux theory and the experimental energy transfer of far infrared dryer leads to the findings of the agreement less than 5%.

  • To create an ultra-high vacuum state at the KSTAR, the temperature of plasma facing component and vacuum vessel should be maintained at $300^{\circ}C$ and $110^{\circ}C$ respectively at a baking phase. The purpose of this research is obtaining the target baking temperatures. Experiments were performed to investigate the temperature characteristics of PFC and VV at the baking phase. Thermal network analysis was used to find heat transfer rates among PFC, VV and other components, and this analysis was verified by using the experimental data. The required heating energy of the PFC and the heating and cooling energy of the VV for the target baking temperatures were found to be 346 kW, 28 kW, and 136 kW, respectively.

  • In this work, a mathematical heat transfer model of a walking-beam type reheating furnace that can predict the formation and growth of the scale layer, which is produced due to oxidative reaction between the furnace oxidizing atmosphere and the steel surface in the reheating furnace, has been developed. The model can also predict the heat flux distribution within the furnace and the temperature distribution in the slab and scale throughout the reheating furnace process by considering the heat exchange between the slab and its surroundings in the furnace, including radiant heat transfer among the slabs, the skids, the hot gases and the furnace wall as well as the gas convection heat transfer in the furnace. Using the model developed in this work, the effects of the scale layer on the heat transfer characteristics and temperature behavior of the slab is investigated. A comparison is also made between the predictions of the present model and the data from an in situ measurement in the furnace, and a reasonable agreement is founded.

  • The ignition and combustion characteristics of CWS droplets were investigated in the postflame region generated by a flat burner. The effect of radiation by screen and heating eleements ws taken into account. Also the theoretical claculations considering the temporal temeprature variation have been performed and compared with experimental results. The ignition delays were reduced by the radiation of the screen or heating elements. Therfore the radiation was considered to play some role in predicting the ignition delay.

  • UTAC(unglazed transpired air collector) system has unique advantage for space heating and tempering ventilation air over the conventional collector system such as flat plate and vacuum collector. UTAC can improve radiative and convective loss due to nonglazed component and enhanced plate surface configuration. and heating energy and its equivalent green house emission performance can be improved from the use of this like collector in building application. The Option D Calibration simulation approach of IPMVP(International Performance Measurement and Verification Protocol) in ESCO businesses has been recommended to use of the calibrated computer modules like these Energy-10. DOE2.1E and TRNSYS(transient system simulation). This study is to develop subroutine type-203 of TRNSYS15.2 program and appraise thermal performance of UTAC. With newely addeded subroutine type-203. 1) Thermal performance of unglazed transpired collector could be possible based on dimensionless variables such as efficiency and heat exchanger effectiveness. and 2) Assessement of energy consists of solar useful and insulation saving for UTAC could be possible.

  • We investigate the mass and energy of erupting plasma observed in X-rays and EUV, which is associated with a coronal mass ejection (CME) and an X-class flare. The erupting plasma was observed by both the X-ray telescope (XRT) on Hinode and the Atmospheric Imaging Assembly (AIA) on Solar Dynamic Observatory (SDO). We estimate the emission measures of the erupting plasma using a differential emission measure method. The plasma erupts with a loop-like structure in X-ray and EUV. We estimate the mass of erupting plasma assuming a cylinder structure. In addition, we estimate the radiative loss, thermal conduction, thermal, and kinetic energies of the eruptive hot plasma. We find that the thermal conduction timescale is much shorter than the duration of the eruption. This result implies that additional heating during the eruption may be required to explain the hot plasma observations in X-rays.
