To study the effect of cloud on the variabilities of turbulent fluxes over the flat terrain, we used the gradient method to analyze the dynamic and thermodynamic data from the meteorological 9-m mast (0.75, 3 and 9 m) in Villafria airport in Spain. The decrease of the surface wind speed is governed by cooling at the surface following the evening transition. The sensible heat flux and the momentum flux are increased with the dynamic factor rather than the thermodynamic factor, and the sensible heat flux was not affected by the thermal condition. The global radiation did not play an important role in the variation of the sensible heat flux in the cloudy day, but the atmospheric surface layer was characterized rather by the wind intensity.
The excess heat that is generated from PV modules can be removed and converted into useful thermal energy. A photovoltaic/thermal(PVT) module is a combination of photovoltaic module with a solar thermal collector, forming one device that converts solar radiation into electricity and heat simultaneously In general, two types of PVT can be distinguished: glass-covered PVT module, which produces high-temperature heat but has a slightly lower electrical yield, and uncovered PVT module, which produces relatively low-temperature heat but has a somewhat higher electrical performance. In this paper, the experimental performance of water type unglazed PVT combined module, analyzed. The electrical and thermal performance of the module were measured in outdoor conditions, and the results are analyzed. The results showed that the thermal efficiency of the PVT module was 27.05% average and its PV efficiency was about 11.85% average, both depending on solar radiation, inlet water temperature and ambient temperature.

The effects of a directionally emitting and reflecting dielectric surface on the wall heat flux and medium temperature distribution are studied. The system is an infinite square duct enclosing an absorbing and emitting medium. The emissivity and reflectivity of opaque and gray wall vary with direction. Combined effect of conductive and radiative heat transfer is analyzed using finite difference and the direct discrete-ordinates method. The parameters under study are conduction to radiation parameter, optical depth, refractive index ratio. The results with directional and diffuse properties deviate each other when the conduction to radiation parameter is less than around 0.01. The wall heat flux differs fur optical thickness less than around 0.1. However, the medium temperature profiles differ for optical thickness greater than around 1. Deviations from diffuse property calculations are larger for hot wall with directional property than cold wall with directional property. As n increases from 1.5, the trend changes are observed fur refractive index ratio about n=6.10

This paper deals with the temperature calculation using equivalent thermal network for surface mounted permanent magnet synchronous motor(SPMSM) under the steady-state condition. In the equivalent thermal network, heat sources are generated from copper loss and iron loss. Heat transfer consists of conduction, convection and radiation. However, radiation is neglected in this paper because its effect is much smaller than others. Although the heat transfer coefficient in conduction use material property, heat transfer coefficient in convection is difficult to measure due to the atmosphere and ambient condition. Temperatures of each region in SPMSM are measured by thermocouple in operating condition and the thermal resistances of convection are calculated by kirchhoff's current law(KCL) and experimental result. In order to verify the validation and reliability of the proposed equivalent thermal network, temperature which is calculated other load condition is compared with experimental results. Accordingly, temperatures of each region in other SPMSMs will be easily predicted by the proposed equivalent thermal network.
The KN-12 spent nuclear fuel transport cask, which is a Type B(U) package designed to comply with the requirements of Korea Atomic Energy Act[1], IAEA Safety Standards Series No.TS-R-1[2] and US 10 CFR Part 71[3], is designed for carrying up to 12 PWR spent fuel assemblies in a basket structure. The cask has been licensed in accordance with Korea Atomic Energy Act and was fabricated in Korea in accordance with the requirements of ASME B&PV Sec.III, Div.3[4]. The cask must maintain thermal integrity in accordance with the related regulations and be evaluated to verify that the thermal performance of the cask complies with the regulatory requirements. The temperatures of the cask and components were determined by using finite elements methods with a numerical tool, safety tests using an 1/8 height slice model of the real cask were conducted to demonstrate verification of the numerical tool and methods, and heat transfer tests for normal transport conditions were performed as a fabrication acceptance test to demonstrate the heat transfer capability of the cask.

A characteristic of discharge for a foam spray nozzle with various parameters was investigated. The discharge patterns from a fire foam spray nozzle are important to evenly spray over a maximum possible floor area. Two parameters of a foam spray nozzle were chosen, and compared with those from the standard one. Also, in order to evaluate the performance of discharged foam agents used to protect structures from heat and fire damages, the thermal characteristics of fire-protection foams were experimentally investigated. A simple repeatable test for fire-protection foams subjected to fire radiation was developed. This test involves foam generation equipment, a fire source for heat generation, and data acquisition techniques. Results show that the bubble size of foam is increased by large inside diameter of orifice or closed air hole, but phenomenon of discharge angle and expansion ratio is opposite. For the case of the open air hole, liquid film of a circular cone discharges with formation, growth, split and fine grain. In case of the closed air hole, a pillar of foam solution discharges with that. Though the temperature gradient in the foam increases with increased foam expansion ratio. it is not change with increased intensity of heat flux.
The purpose of this study is focussed on the numerical predictions of temperature distribution by radiation heat transfer in atrium fire using the field fire model and the CCRHT-3D code. This code uses standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ turbulent model with SIMPLE algorithm and weighted sum of gray gases model regrouping(WSGGM-RG). The WSGGM-RG calculates radiative properties on the reduced computational loads while reserving the accuracy. The numerical results show that lower temperature distributions on the wall and the top ceiling wall can be obtained by considering radiative heat transfer. The temperature on the top ceiling wall can be an important parameter in predicting the operating condition of the sprinkler head.
We present a retrieval scheme for the remote sensing of evapotranspiration (ET) over rice paddy. To perform the retrieval, high-resolution airborne imagery of multi-spectral visible and thermal infrared data, and ground-based meteorological measurements are utilized. Our ET retrieval scheme is based on the basic principal of surface energy budget, which is a result of balance in longwave and shortwave radiation, latent heat, sensible heat, and energy flux into the ground. To partition the latent and sensible heat fluxes of interest from the energy balance equation, three basic parameters are of most concern, including albedo, surface temperature, and normalized difference vegetation index (NDVI). The NDVI and albedo can be easily derived from the visible and near infrared spectral data, while the surface tem-perature can be determined through the analysis of the infrared data with the Stefan Boltzmann law. From the airborne imagery taken on 28 April 2003, we observe very good dry and wet pixels that can be easily corre-sponded to the radiation and evaporation controlled crite-ria, respectively, and, hence, for the further use in defin-ing the evaporative fraction needed to partition sensible and latent heat fluxes from the net energy flux. The de-rived ET is compared with the in situ measurements.
