In this study, the experiment of the measuring of four different types of flooring materials' thermal characteristics was conducted and examined during the summer. The experimental materials were arranged on the existing slab of the roof, and then its thermal characteristics were examined from the point of view of thermal radiation analysis. The aim of this study is ultimately to draw the fundamental data for improvements in a building's thermal function and reduce the urban heat island phenomena through optimizing the thermal characteristics of the surface covering materials of a building. The results from this study are as follows; 1) Each experimental material's albedo was calculated as 0.83 on the aluminum panel, 0.40 on the rock block, 0.37 on the wood deck and 0.21 on the concrete. It shows that the concrete material, which has the lowest short wave reflective rate, absorbed the most radiation energy and the aluminium panel has absorbed the lowest radiation energy. 2) From the each experimental object's value of the long wave radiation, the concrete material measured the highest, at $628W/m^2$, and the aluminium panel measured the lowest at $412W/m^2$. Therefore, it verifies that the experimental objects' own radiation rate determines the amount of the long wave radiation. 3) The degree of energy absorbency of a building's surface covering materials is greatly influenced by its own albedo and radiation rate, Therefore, it needs to be considered for the improvements in a building's thermal function and reducing the urban heat island phenomena. 4) According to the evaluation result of the each experimental object's overall heat transmission screening function on the roof of a building, the wooden deck is proven to be an excellent material for excluding the outside temperature differences effectively with its characteristic of low heat capacity and conduction. Also its surface temperature on the roof slab and the temperature difference during the day were both measured at low.
Heat flux of the East China Sea was estimated with the bulk method, the East China mount based on the marine meteorological data and cloud amount data observed by a satellite. Solar radiation is maximum in May and minimum in December. Its amount decreases gradually southward during the winter half year (from October to March), and increases northward during the summer half year (from April to September) due to the influence of Changma (Baiu) front. The spatial difference of long-wave radiation is relatively small, but its temporal difference is quite large, i.e., the value in February is about two times greater than that in July. The spatial patterns of sensible and latent heat fluxes reflect well the effect of current distribution in this region. The heat loss from the ocean surface is more than $830Wm^{-2}$ in winter, which is five times greater than the net radiation amount during the same period, The annual net heat flux is negative, which means heat loss from the sea surface, in the whole region over the East China Sea. The region with the largest loss of more than $400Wm^{-2}$ in January is observed over the southwestern Kyushu. The annual mean value of solar radiation, long-wave radiation, sensible and latent heat fluxes are estimated $187Wm^{-2},\;-52Wm^{-2},\;-30Wm^{-2}\;and\;-137Wm^{-2}$, respectively, consequently the East China Sea losses the energy of $32Wm^{-2}(2.48\times10^{13}W)$. Through the heat exchange between the air and the sea, the heat energy of $0.4\times10^{13}W$ is supplied from the air to the sea in A region (the Yellow Sea), $2.1\times10^{13}W$ in B region (the East China Sea) and $1.7\times10^{13}W$ in C region (the Kuroshio part), respectively.
The tree is regarded as an sustainable architectural outdoor design element which reduce urban heat island effect by its solar shading and evapotranspiration. This study carried out field observations of measuring thermal environment of selected tree and its ambience to determine passive cooling effects. Results from the field observations are as below; Tree-shading effect to the thermal environment can not be properly evaluated by merely measuring air temperature differences between tree-shaded space and unshaded space for the maximum temperature difference is less than $1.5^{\circ}C$. The differences of longwave radiation and shortwave radiation between tree-shaded space and unshaded space are measured. Shortwave radiation is considered as a main thermal comfort determining factor for the difference of the shortwave radiation is much bigger than that of longwave radiation. By thermal infrared image analysis, the surface temperature of the tree under strong solar radiation is measured same as ambient air temperature. By which the evapotranspiration is considered to retard tree surface temperature raising effectively.

Radiative heat transfer is very important in many combustion systems since they are operated in high temperature. Fluid flows in most of the combustion systems are turbulent to promote fast mixing of the hydrocarbon fuel and oxidant. Major combustion products are $CO_2$ and $H_2O$. The turbulent flow is modeled by using the standard ${\kappa}-{\epsilon}$ model and the radiation transfer is modeled by using the discrete ordinates method where the radiative gas properties are calculated by using the weighted sum of gray gases model with a gray gas regrouping(WSGGM-RG). Effect of the radiation on the combustion characteristics in a three-dimensional rectangular enclosure is studied by changing the equivalence ratio. Results show that the radiation plays a significant role on the heat transfer in the combustion systems by resulting in a temperature drop of 16% as compared to that obtained without radiation. The equivalence ratio also affects the combustion by different contribution of the radiative transfer with different gas compositions.

The unsteady numerical simulations have been presented for the laminar natural convection in a partially open compartment. Computations were performed within the domain of the compartment in order to show the thermal radiation and the partially opening effects on the flow fields and heat transfer characteristics. The results were shown for different Planck numbers(0.05~5) and opening ratios(0.25~0.75) being fixed with Ra=$10^5$ and Pr=0.71. Considering the flow which is buoyancy driven from the heated wall, and the buoyancy is not much affected by the further outside region from the opening, the numerical computations have been performed without an outer region by the particular boundary treatments on the flow velocity and temperature at the different partial openings. The confined numerical domain reduced the CPU time and the memory of computer. P-1 approximation of radiative transfer equation was employed with Marshak type boundary conditions along with the pseudo-black body approximation at the partial openings. The numerical results clearly show that the natural convective flow and heat transfer are much affected by increase of thermal radiation particularly from the initial state. When thermal radiation is not much affecting the flow ($PL{\le}1$), it was found that thermal radiation effects are almost negligible.
Transparent and conductive AZO films were deposited on the glass by using radio frequency (RF) magnetron sputtering with intense electron radiation, simultaneously. After deposition, the effect of electron radiation energy on the optical and electrical properties of AZO was investigated. In XRD measurements, the films irradiated with intense electron beam show the larger grain size than that of the films prepared without electron radiation. Sheet resistance was also dependent on the electron radiation energy, while the optical transmittance in visible wavelength region was not affected seriously by electron radiation. X-.ray diffraction, UV-Vis spectrophotometer and four point probes were used to observe the crystallization, optical transmittance and sheet resistance, respectively.
In order to use the natural thermal energy as much as possible for greenhouse heating, the air-air heat pump system involved PCM(phase change material) latent heat storage system was composed, and three types of greenhouse heating system(greenhouse system, greenhouse-PCM latent heat storage system, greenhouse-PCM latent heat storage-heat pump system) were recomposed from the greenhouse heating units to analyze the heating characteristics. The results could be concluded as follows; 1) In the greenhouse heated by the heat pump under the solar radiation of 406.39W/$m^2$, the maximum PCM temperature in the latent heat storage system was 24$^{\circ}C$ and the accumulated thermal energy stored in PCM mass of 816kg during the daytime was 100,320kJ. In the greenhouse without heat pump under the maximum solar radiation of 452.83W/$m^2$, the maximum PCM temperature in the latent heat storage system was 22$^{\circ}C$ and the accumulated thermal energy stored during the daytime was 52.250kJ. 2) In the greenhouse-PCM system without heat pump the heat stored in soil layers from the surface to 30cm of the soil depth was 450㎉/$m^2$. 3) In all of the greenhouse heating systems, the difference between the air temperature in greenhouse and the ambient temperature was about 20~23$^{\circ}C$ in the daytime. In the greenhouse without heat pump and PCM latent heat storage system the difference between the ambient temperature and the air temperature in the greenhouse was about 6~7$^{\circ}C$ in the nighttime, in the greenhouse with only PCM latent heat storage system the temperature difference about 7~13$^{\circ}C$ in the nighttime and in the greenhouse with the heat pump and PCM latent heat storage system about 9~14$^{\circ}C$ in the nighttime.

This study examines seasonal variability of the surface energy balance at the King Sejong Station, Antarctica, using measurements and estimates of the components related to the balance for the period of 1996 to 2004. Annual average of downward shortwave radiation at the surface is 81 $Wm^{-2}$ which is 37% of the extraterrestrial value, with the monthly maximum of 188 $Wm^{-2}$ in December and the minimum of 8 $Wm^{-2}$ in June. These values are relatively smaller than those at other stations in Antarctica, which can be attributed to higher cloudy weather conditions in Antarctic front zone. Surface albedo varies between ~0.3 in the austral summer season and ~0.6 in the winter season. As a result, the net shortwave radiation ranges from 117 $Wm^{-2}$ down to 3 $Wm^{-2}$ with annual averages of 43 $Wm^{-2}$. Annual average of the downward longwave radiation shows 278 $Wm^{-2}$, ranging from 263 $Wm^{-2}$ in August to 298 $Wm^{-2}$ in January. The downward longwave radiation is verified to be dependent strongly on the air temperature and specific humidity, accounting for 74% and 79% of the total variance in the longwave radiation, respectively. The net longwave radiation varies between 25 $Wm^{-2}$ and 40 $Wm^{-2}$ with the annual averages of 30 $Wm^{-2}$. Accordingly, the annual average energy balance is dominated by radiative warming of a positive net all-wave radiation from September to next March and radiative cooling of a negative net all-wave radiation from April to August. The net all-wave radiative energy gain and loss at the surface is mostly balanced by turbulent flux of sensible and latent heat. The soil heat flux is of negligible importance in the surface energy balance.
Air-sea heat fluxes in the East Sea were estimated from the various ship's data observed from 1961 to 1990 and the JMA buoy #6 data from 1976 to 1985. The oceanic heat transport in the sea was also determined from the fluxes above and the heat storage rate of the upper layer of 200m from the sea surface. In winter, The incoming solar radiation is almost balanced with the outgoing longwave radiation. but the sea loses her heat through the sea surface mainly due to the latent and sensible heat fluxes. The spatial variation of the net surface heat flux is about 100 Wm/SUP -2/, and the maximum loss of heat is occurred near the Tsugaru Strait. There are also lots of heat losses in the southern part of the East Sea, Korea Strait and Ulleung Basin. Particularly, the heat strong loss in the south-western part of the sea might be concerned with the formation of her Intermediate Homogeneous Water. In summer, the sea is heated up to about 120∼140 Wm/SUP -2/ sue to strong incoming solar radiation and weak turbulent heat fluxes and her spatial variation is only about 20 Wm/SUP -2/. The oceanic heat flux is positive in the southeasten part f the sea and the magnitude of the flux is larger than that of the net surface heat flux. This shows the importance of the area. In the southwestern part of the sea, however, the oceanic heat flux is negative. This fact implies cold water inflow, the North Korean Cold Water. The sigh of net surface heat flux is changed from negative to positive in March and from positive to negative in September. The heat content in the upper surface 200 m from the sea surface reaches its minimum in March and maximum in October. The annual variation of the net surface heat flux is 580 Wm/SUP -2/ in southwestern part of the sea. The annual mean values of net surface heat fluxes are negative, which mean the net heat transfer from the sea to the atmosphere. The magnitude of the flux is about 130 Wm/SUP -2/ near the Tsugaru Strait. The net surface fluxes in the Korea Strait and the Ulleung Basin are relatively larger than those of the rest areas. The spatial mean values of surface heat fluxes from 35$^{\circ}C$ to 39$^{\circ}$N are 129, -90, -58, and -32 Wm/SUP -2/ for the incoming solar radiation, latent hear flux, outgoing longwave radiation, and sensible heat flux, respectively.
