  • The characteristics of slow wave structure employed for backward wave oscillator expected to be a high power microwave source are studied analytically. The slow wave structure is a sinusodially corrugated wall waveguide. The waveguide is designed and transmitted characteristics for microwave are measured in the air. There exist literatures on high efficiency of enhansed radiation from backward wave oscillators involving plasmastudied experimentally another results.

A Study On Design of ZigBee Chip Communication Module for Remote Radiation Measurement (원격 방사선 측정을 위한 ZigBee 원칩형 통신 모듈 설계에 대한 연구)

  • This paper suggests how to design a ZigBee-chip-based communication module to remotely measure radiation level. The suggested communication module consists of two control processors for the chip as generally required to configure a ZigBee system, and one chip module to configure a ZigBee RF device. The ZigBee-chip-based communication module for remote radiation measurement consists of a wireless communication controller; sensor and high-voltage generator; charger and power supply circuit; wired communication part; and RF circuit and antenna. The wireless communication controller is to control wireless communication for ZigBee and to measure radiation level remotely. The sensor and high-voltage generator generates 500 V in two consecutive series to amplify and filter pulses of radiation detected by G-M Tube. The charger and power supply circuit part is to charge lithium-ion battery and supply power to one-chip processors. The wired communication part serves as a RS-485/422 interface to enable USB interface and wired remote communication for interfacing with PC and debugging. RF circuit and antenna applies an RLC passive component for chip antenna to configure BALUN and antenna impedance matching circuit, allowing wireless communication. After configuring the ZigBee-chip-based communication module, tests were conducted to measure radiation level remotely: data were successfully transmitted in 10-meter and 100-meter distances, measuring radiation level in a remote condition. The communication module allows an environment where radiation level can be remotely measured in an economically beneficial way as it not only consumes less electricity but also costs less. By securing linearity of a radiation measuring device and by minimizing the device itself, it is possible to set up an environment where radiation can be measured in a reliable manner, and radiation level is monitored real-time.

A Survey on the Knowledge of Radiation Safety Management (RSM) in the Context of Industrial Use of Radiation (방사선의 산업적 이용에 따른 방사선 안전관리 지식 조사)

  • The purpose of this study was examine via a survey the knowledge related to radiation safety management (RSM) among radiation workers who operated or used a radiation generator or radioactive isotopes (radioactive isotopes, etc. hereinafter) for industrial use and to systematically analyze the changes in the survey results in order to promote a radiation safety culture for facilities where radiation is used. We administered a questionnaire to 861 radiation workers in the period from August 1 to September 5, 2011. As for the analysis method, a frequency analysis was made for the general characteristics and organization information of survey respondents, while the average and standard deviation were calculated and compared for the knowledge level of the RSM. According to the analysis results, the knowledge level of the RSM was evaluated to be high in all of the radiation workers. In conclusion, it is required to conduct a study on various factors in regards to the RSM among radiation workers. This can contribute to establishing educational programs in a timely manner to increase the awareness of safe and efficient use of radioactive materials and equipments by radiation workers.

  • The solar photovoltaic power generator can get more power with the higher solar radiation quantity. However, if the higher solar radiation quantity on cell becomes high temperature, the efficiency of generate will be reduced. To install cooling system for this kind of device can be the way to solve high temperature problem on cell but another problems after install it such as increasing of solar generated quantity problem cost to install cooling system and cost to be maintained cooling system weren't discussed to practical use this system. So the present paper described about effect and commercial business possibility of cooling system. After installing a cooling system the results of experiment about 5.76[%] average annual increasing of solar photovoltaic can expect.

  • This paper proposes a new bandgap reference (BGR) circuit which takes advantage of a cascode current mirror biasing to reduce the V$\_$ref/ variation, and sizing technique, which utilizes two related ratio numbers k and N, to reduce the PNP BJT area. The proposed BGR is designed and fabricated on a test chip with a goal to provide a reference voltage to the 10 bit A/D(4-4-4 pipeline architecture) converter of the CMOS Active Pixel Sensor (APS) imager to be used in X-ray imaging. The basic temperature variation effect on V$\_$ref/ of the BGR has a maximum delta of 6 mV over the temperature range of 25$^{\circ}C$ to 70$^{\circ}C$. To verify that the proposed BGR has radiation hardness for the X-ray imaging application, total ionization dose (TID) effect under Co-60 exposure conditions has been evaluated. The measured V$\_$ref/ variation under the radiation condition has a maximum delta of 33 mV over the range of 0 krad to 100 krad. For the given voltage, temperature, and radiation, the BGR has been satisfied well within the requirement of the target 10 bit A/D converter.

  • The pollutants in subsurface soil are advected by groundwater flow and transported by the hydrodynamic dispersion. In this study, laboratory-scale experiments by using a radioisotope were conducted to evaluate the characteristics of the transport and dispersion of pollutants in the soil. The hydraulic model of the laboratory-scale was manufactured based upon its geometric similarity. Tc-99m having a short half-life was used with a tracer and it was injected instantaneously into the soil. Tc-99m milked from a $^{99}Mo/^{99m}Tc$ portable generator fabricated for medical purposes had 0.141 MeV of gamma radiation. The experiments are performed by the different conditions like the variations of groundwater velocity and the results are analyzed by the measured CPS of Tc-99m.

  • Currently most nuclear power plants(NPPs) are adopted the mid-loop operation to minimize the overhaul period and save the operating cost. For mid-loop operation it is essential to install nozzle dam between RCS pipe and steam generator(SG). Because SG remains more highly contaminated with radioactive material than any other parts of the NPPs, the repairmen are very reluctant to carry out installing nozzle dam inside the SG. Until now, unfortunately, it appears that no practically applicable device was developed to provide the longstanding demand. Also the accidents have been reported by licenser event report during this operation mode due to loss of residual heat removal(RHR). The purpose of this paper is to conduct remotely blocking and disintegration of nozzle of a SG which has the highest radiation exposure during the maintenance in NPPs. The remote nozzle blocking device of a SG includes three bladders, hubs, air controller provisions to supply and contact air pressure into the bladders. This remote nozzle block device will give the larger operation margin to prevent the loss of RHR and minimize the radiation exposure dose to the repairman and shorten the overhaul periods.

  • The stay cylinder weld at the steam generator of Korean Standard Nuclear Power Plants is safety class I component and is subjected to be inspected by the volumetric examination such as ultrasonic method. As accessibility of this area is limited due to the narrow space and high radiation, the existing manual inspection method involves various difficulties. Moreover operators may be exposed to internal contamination by contaminated dust during the surface buffing process to improve the inspection reliability of this area. Recently the new automatic inspection system for stay cylinder welds has been developed. The inspection system basically consists of a driving assembly, data acquisition device and signal processing units. The driving assembly is classified by 1) the scanner for inspecting and buffing the weld, 2) pillars for guiding the scanner and 3) the base frame for loading and supporting pillars. The scanner has 4 sensor modules to inspect in 4 refracted angles and 4 incident directions. These components can be inserted into the skirt of the stay cylinder through the manway hole and assembled easily by one-touch in the skirt. Data acquisition device and signal processing units developed in previous works are also newly upgraded for better processing of data analysis and evaluation. The system has been successfully demonstrated not only in the mock-up but also in the field. In this paper, newly developed inspection system for the stay cylinder weld of the steam generator is introduced and their field applications are discussed.

  • In this paper, Gaussian impulse generator for DS-UWB was proposed and fabricated so that the frequency band allocated to WLAN, around 5 GHz, was suppressed in accordance with the regulation of radiation spectrum limitation defined by FCC. In order to transform an unipolar rectangular signal to a Gaussian impulse, the proposed impulse generator consists of two stage impulse generation parts; the first stage using dual SRD and the second stage using gain switching of semiconductor laser diode. The result shows a gaussian impulse as narrow as 180 psec in width. In addition, high order derivative Gaussian filter with a structure of 4 stage ring resonators was designed and fabricated so that DS-UWB impulse generator could reduce the frequency spectrum of WLAN by 25 dB compared to the spectral power of th adjacent UWB band.
