  • In this paper, we propose the cogging toque reduction technique of the dual stator radial flux permanent magnet generator. The cogging toque is caused by the torque ripple increase and vibration and noise of the generator. And it is important factor determining cut-in speed of the small wind generator. To reduce cogging torque, permanent magnet displacement was studied. And the theory of the permanent magnet displacement was formulated and the cogging torque reduction according to the permanent magnet displacement was confirmed through the finite element method.

  • We analyze in detail axially symmetric theoretical study for the photothermal pulsed radiometry of a cylindrical model. The theoretical solutions describe the transient infrared radiation from the sample heated by short-duration pulsed heating. In the conventional transmission radiometry technique, the excitation source and the detector are on opposite sides of the sample, otherwise in the new single ended radiometry technique, the excitation source and the detector are on same sides of the sample. The analytical solution described for photothermal radiometry in this study would not need to cut or polish samples to measure the thermal diffusivity. Therefore the radial area and axial thickness of samples are not limited. The effects of excitation pulse duration and the area of heat source are discussed.

  • For this study, 18 kinds of cut and sew or seamless knitted test garment were made. Samples differed from each other by skirt angles($90^{\circ}$, $180^{\circ}$), gauges(7G, 12G, 15G), and grain directions(bias direction, wale direction, and radial direction). After measuring the mechanical properties of various gauges on the seamless knitting machine, I compared shape of the knitted flare skirt through subjective evaluation on appearances. The data analysis methods used in this study were descriptive statistics, one-way ANOVA, Duncan-test, correlation analysis, and regression analysis. The subjective evaluation on appearances of knitted flare skirts showed the following: In case of $90^{\circ}$ skirt, the seamless skirt showed a much higher score in every gauge expect that of the cut and sew 12G, and silhouette of 15G wale direction. In case of the $180^{\circ}$ skirt, the seamless type showed a much higher score in every item over the cut and sew expect the silhouette part of 7G wale direction.

  • The pumping characteristics of a single-stage disk-type drag pump ( DTDP ) are calculated, for the variation of the vertical clearance between a rotor and stator and of the radial clearance between a rotor and casing wall, by the three-dimensional direct simulation Monte Carlo (DSMC)method. The gas flow mainly belongs to the molecular transition flow region. Spiral channels of a DTDP are cut on the both the upper and lower sides of a rotating disk, but the stationary disks are planar. As a consequence of results, the vertical and radial clearances have a significant effect on the pumping performance. Experiments are performed under the outlet pressure range of 0.4 $^{\sim}$ 533 Pa. When the numerical results are compared to the experimental data, the numerical results agree well qualitatively.

  • This paper deals with the relation of cutting conditions and damaged layer by investigating cutting force, cutting temperature and residual stress in high speed machining. Damaged layer was measured using optical microscope on samples prepared by metallographic techniques. The scale of this damaged layer depends upon characteristics of cutting force and cutting temperature. Damaged layer depth increases with feed per tooth and radial depth. In a different another way, damaged layer remains almost unchanged according to spindle speed. Therefore, the effective method for decreasing damaged layer is that cut down feed per tooth and radial depth.

  • The radial distribution systems (RDS) commonly used around the world has the following disadvantages. First, when the DL is operated on a radial system, the line utilization rate is usually kept low. Second, if a fault occurs in the radial DL, a power outage of 3 to 5 minutes is occurring depending on the operator's proficiency and fault situation until the fault section is separated and the normal section is replaced. To solve this problem, Various methods have been proposed at domestic and foreign to solve this problem, and in Korea, research is underway on the advanced system of operating multiple linked DL always. A system that is electrically linked always, and that is built to enable high-speed communication during the protection coordination is named networked distribution system (NDS). Because the load shares the DL, the line utilization rate can be improved, and even if the line faults, the normal section does not need to be cut off, so the normal section does not experience a power outage. However, since it is impossible to predict in which direction the fault current will flow when a failure occurs in the NDS, a communication-based protection coordination is used, but there is no backup protection coordination method in case of communication failure. Therefore, in this paper, we propose a protective cooperation method to apply as a backup method when communication fails in NDS. The new method is to change TCC by location of CB using voltage drop in case of fault.

  • The End-milling has been widely used in the industrial world because it is effective to cutting working with various shape. Recently the end-milling is demanded the high-precise technique with good surface roughness and rapid manufacturing time for precision machine and electronic elements. The cutting working of end-milling such as, cutting direction, revolution of spindle, feed rate and depth of cut have an effect on optimum surface roughness. This study was carried out to decide the working condition for optimum surface roughness and rapid manufacturing time by design of experiment and ANOVA. From the results of this study, the optimum working condition for end milling is upward cutting in cutting direction, 600rpm in revolution of spindle, 240mm/mm in feed rate, 2mm in axial depth of cut and 0 25mm in radial depth of cut. The design of experiment has become an useful method to select optimum working condition mend-milling.

  • The present paper studies the influence of the inhomogeneous initial stresses in the bi-layered hollow cylinder and it is assumed that these stresses are caused by the hydrostatic pressures acting on the interior and outer free surfaces of the cylinder. The study is made by utilizing the version of the three-dimensional linearized theory of elastic waves in bodies with initial stresses for which the initial stress-strain state in bodies is determined within the scope of the classical linear theory of elasticity. For the solution to the corresponding eigenvalue problem, the discrete-analytical method is employed. Numerical results are presented and analyzed for concrete selected pairs of materials. According to these results and their analyses, it is established that, unlike homogeneous initial stresses, the influence of the inhomogeneous initial stresses on the torsional wave dispersion has not only quantitative but also qualitative character. For instance, in particular, it is established that as a result of the initial stresses caused by the hydrostatic pressure acting in the interior free surface of the cylinder, the cut-off frequency appears for the fundamental dispersive mode and the values of this frequency increase with the intensity of this pressure.

  • KAERI (Korea Atomic Energy Research Institute) fabricated MOX (Mixed Oxide) fuel pellets as a cooperation project with PSI (Paul Scherrer Institut) for an irradiation test in the Halden reactor. The MOX pellets were fitted into fuel rods that included instrumentation for measurement in IFE (Institutt for Energiteknikk). The fuel rods were assembled into the test rig and irradiated in the Halden reactor up to 50 MWd/kgHM. The irradiated fuel rods were transported to the IFE, where ceramography was carried out. The fuel rods were cut transversely at the relatively higher burn-up locations and then the radial cross sections were observed. Micrographs were analyzed using an image analysis program and grain sizes along the radial direction were measured by the linear intercept method. Radial cracks in the irradiated MOX were observed that were generally circumferentially closed at the pellet periphery and open in the hot central region. A circumferential crack was formed along the boundary between the dark central and the outer regions. The inner surface of the cladding was covered with an oxide layer. Pu-rich spots were observed in the outer region of the fuel pellets. The spots were surrounded by many small pores and contained some big pores inside. Metallic fission product precipitates were observed mainly in the central region and in the inside of the Pu spots. The average areal fractions of the metallic precipitates at the radial cross section were 0.41% for rod 6 and 0.32% for rod 3. In the periphery, pore density smaller than 2 ${\mu}m$ was higher than that of the other regions. The grain growth occurred from 10 ${\mu}m$ to 12 ${\mu}m$ in the central region of rod 6 during irradiation.

  • This study describes the selection of optimum machining conditions for a high-hardness resin by using a large 5-axis machine. The experiments were conducted to examine the main factors that affect the surface roughness, such as the spindle speed, axial and radial depths of the cut, and pattern of the cutter path. To analyze the experiment results, the factor with the biggest impact on machining was determined using the smaller-the-better characteristic of the Taguchi method; the effectiveness of the experiment was then confirmed by verifying the selected optimum machining condition.
