Controller Optimization for Bidirectional Power Flow in Medium-Voltage DC Power Systems

  • This paper focuses on the control of bidirectional power flow in the electric shipboard power systems, especially in the Medium-Voltage Direct Current (MVDC) shipboard power system. Bidirectional power control between the main MVDC bus and the local zones can improve the energy efficiency and control flexibility of electric ship systems. However, since the MVDC system contains various nonlinear loads such as pulsed power load and radar in various subsystems, the voltage of the MVDC and the local zones varies significantly. This voltage variation affects the control performance of the bidirectional DC-DC converters as exogenous disturbances. To improve the control performance regardless of uncertainties and disturbances, this paper proposes a novel controller design method of the bidirectional DC-DC converters using $L_1$ control theory and intelligent optimization algorithm. The performance of the proposed method is verified via large-scale real-time digital simulation of a notional shipboard MVDC power system.

  • We present an efficient and robust technique to estimate the velocity of moving targets from a single SAR image. In SAR images, azimuth image shift is a well known phenomenon, which is observed in moving targets having slant-range velocity. Most methods estimated the velocity of moving targets from the distance difference between the road and moving targets or between ship and the ship wake. However, the methods could not be always applied to moving targets because it is difficult to find the road and the ship wake. We adopted a method estimating the velocity of moving targets from azimuth differentials of range-compressed image. This method is based on an assumption that Doppler center frequency shift of moving target causes a phase difference in azimuth differential values. The phase difference is linearly distorted by Doppler rate due to the geometry of SAR image. The linear distortion is eliminated from phase removal procedure, and the constant phase difference is estimated. Finally, range velocity estimates for moving targets are retrieved. This technique is tested using an ENVISAT ASAR image in which several unknown ships are presented. The theoretical accuracy of this technique is discussed by SAR simulation. The advantages and disadvantages of this method over the conventional method are also discussed.

  • In the modern UAV systems, the role of radar payload has been increasing with its unique performance of day-and-night operation and see-through capability over hidden obstacles. Contrary to the satellite reconnaissance, UAV is expected to provide high resolution target detection and recognition capability while frequent flight missions would deliver enhanced SAR image and local information over the target area. STK(Satellite Tool Kit) is a professional space-analysis software widely used in all phases of a space system's life cycle. The simulation of STK is efficient and accurate relatively. In this paper, the author attempt to model the UAV operation and measure the expected SAR image quality. STK(Satellite Tool Kit) is employed to analyze UAV operation and produce SAR raw data. A SAR simulator is developed to produce high resolution SAR image for various ground targets.

Efficient Motion Compensation Algorithm for Ground Moving Targets Based on SAR-ATI System (SAR-ATI를 이용한 효율적인 지상 이동 표적 보상 알고리즘)

  • Recently, well-known SAR imaging algorithms have been developed to form the focused SAR images for stationary targets. In general, the conventional methods exploit the range variation only defined by the motion of radar platform and SAR geometry. However, for SAR imaging of ground moving targets, the motion of the targets induces an additional range shift, yielding the blurred SAR images. To overcome the problem, in this paper we propose an effective motion compensation algorithm operated under a multi-channel SAR, named along-track interferometry(ATI) and phase unwrapping to directly estimate the motion parameters of the targets. In simulations, 50 Monte-Carlo simulation results show the effectiveness of the algorithm in the presence of noise.

  • This study describes an omega-K algorithm for focusing bistatic synthetic aperture radar(SAR) data using bistatic-to-monostatic conversion. Bistatic SAR system considered in this study consists of a transmitting antenna and a physical array of several receiving antennas. The length of the physical array is identical to the SAR synthetic aperture. Unlike the monostatic case, an omega-K algorithm for the bistatic case is difficult to obtain the exact equation in the 2D wavenumber domain. The key of the proposed algorithm is converting the bistatic data into a monostatic one. The effectiveness of the proposed algorithm is proved by simulation and real measurement data.

  • For intelligent vehicle technology, it is very important to recognize the states of around vehicles and assess the collision risk for safety driving of the vehicle. Specifically, it is very fatal the collision with the vehicle coming from opposite direction. In this paper, a centerlane violation prediction method is proposed. Only radar signal based prediction makes lots of false alarm cause of measurement noise and the false alarm can make more danger situation than the non-prediction situation. We proposed the novel prediction method using IMM algorithm and fuzzy logic to increase accuracy and get rid of false positive. Fuzzy logic adjusts the radar signal and the IMM algorithm appropriately. It is verified by the computer simulation that shows stable prediction result and fewer number of false alarm.

  • A ground moving target's velocity estimation algorithm applicable for a SAR-GMTI system using 2 channel displaced phase center antenna(DPCA) is proposed. In this algorithm, we assume target's across-track velocity can be estimated by along-track interferometry (ATI) and present a method to estimate target's along-track velocity. To accomplish this method, we first transform a radar-target geometry in which a moving target has zero velocity via altering a radar velocity such that target's velocity is reflected into it and next manipulate the spectral centers of the subapertures within the synthetic aperture. The validity of the proposed algorithm is demonstrated through simulation results showing the performance of the target's velocity estimation and the enhancement of reconstructed target image quality in terms of resolution and SINR.

Phase Error Decrease Method for Target Direction Detection Improvement (표적 방향 탐지 향상을 위한 위상 오차 감소 방법)

  • This paper proposes a method to minimize the target's direction detection error using RADAR. The radar system cannot accurately detect the target direction due to the phase error of he received signal. The proposed method of this study obtains a phase by applying an root mean square to each antenna incident signal, and reduces the phase error by using an optimal signal to noise ratio. In the simulation result, the probability of detecting the target direction is the best when the antenna spacing is half wavelength. The conventional method of direction detection probability 10-1.7 and the proposed method is 10-3.3. The target detection direction of the existing method represents [-8°,8°] with an error of 2 degrees. The target detection direction of the proposed method is shown in [-10°,10°], and all target directions are accurately detected. In the future, There is need for a method to reduce the phase error even though the resolution decrease.

  • In this paper, it is shown how the performance of the monopulse algorithm in additive noise is evaluated. In the previous study, the performance analysis of the amplitude-comparison monopulse algorithm was conducted via the first-order and second-order Taylor expansion of four variables. By defining two new random variables from the four variables, it is shown that computational complexity associated with two random variables is much smaller than that associated with four random variables. Performance in terms of mean square error is analyzed from Monte-Carlo simulation. The scheme proposed in this paper is more efficient than that suggested in the previous study in terms of computational complexity. The expressions derived in this study can be utilized in getting analytic expressions of the mean square errors.

Most methods for target-to-measurement data association tend to coalesce neighboring targets Therefore, many algorithms have been developed to solve this data association problem. In this paper, a new multi-target data association method based on order statistics is described The new approaches. called the order statistics probabilistic data association (OSPDA) and the order statistics joint probabilistic data association (OSJPDA), are formulated using the association probabilities of the probabilistic data association (PDA) and the joint probabilistic data association (JPDA) filters, respectively Using the decision logic. an optimal or near optimal target-to-measurement data association is made A computer simulation of the proposed method in a heavy cluttered condition is given, including a comparison With the nearest-neighbor CNN). the PDA, and the JPDA filters, Simulation results show that the performances of the OSPDA filter and the OSJPDA filter are superior to those of the PDA filter and the JPDA filter in terms of tracking accuracy about 18% and 19%, respectively In addition, the proposed method is implemented using a developed digital signal processing (DSP) board which can be interfaced with the engine control unit (ECU) of car engine and with the d?xer through the controller area network (CAN)
