  • This paper has reviewed the performances of various AGCs which can be adopted in IEEE802.11p modems. IEEE802.11p, a high speed mobile communication standard for vehicles, requires high performance signal detector since the channel impulse responses are varied rapidly in time. In order to select the optimal signal detector, we simulated the performances of three detection methods. One is using RSSI signal, the other is using RSSI signal and I/Q signal, and the third is using I/Q signal through the Monte Carlo simulation. We evaluated the performances of the algorithms using our own system based on MAX 2829 transceiver(MAXIM $Integrated^{TM}$) in a real vehicular environment. As a result, the experiment using Fully I/Q signal derives the most excellent performance with the lowest minimum receiver sensitivity, packet error rate (PER) and false alarm rate (FAR).

  • In this thesis, feedback circuit and FM detector applied to superheterodyne receiver to extract audio signal without random noise Is implemented. The feedback loop circuit converts 45MHz received signal to 4SiKHz If signal containing mess-age without random noise. Also the feedback loop provides the End local frequency, so narrowband BPF which is containing maximum Doppler frequency without message Is needed. Finally, quadrature FM detector extract audio signal by synthesis o350" shifted signal and ampli-tude limited signal. RSSI characteristics is measured and audio characteristics Is compared with existing If module.

  • As the development of the computer and communication technologies, the ubiquitous society can be realized to the world early in the future. Thus, the localization system in Wireless Personal Area Network (WPAN) is required for many users of ubiquitous society to provide the ubiquitous computing based applications in respective of anytime and anywhere. In this paper, we propose the distance measurement scheme that is based on the distance measurement using RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indicator) of sensor module considering of two distance conditions for the localization system using Zigbee in WPAN. Also, the localization errors of the proposed scheme are analyzed in the three scenarios that the mobile module tracks in the in $6m{\times}6m$ scaled experimentation area. In addition to this, the monitoring subsystem is developed using GUI (Graphical User Interface) in order to monitor the location of the moving objects accurately and user-friendly.

  • Traditional radio-based gesture recognition approaches usually require the target to carry a device (e.g., an EMG sensor or an accelerometer sensor). However, such requirement cannot be satisfied in many applications. For example, in smart home, users want to control the light on/off by some specific hand gesture, without finding and pressing the button especially in dark area. They will not carry any device in this scenario. To overcome this drawback, in this paper, we propose three algorithms able to recognize the target gesture (mainly the human hand gesture) without carrying any device, based on just Radio Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI). Our platform utilizes only 6 telosB sensor nodes with a very easy deployment. Experiment results show that the successful recognition radio can reach around 80% in our system.

  • According to increasing the importance of underwater environments, the needs of UUV are growing. This paper represents the mechanism and algorithm of UUV docking system with 21-inch torpedo tubes for military submarines as a docking station. To improve the reliability of the docking, torpedo tubes launch a wired ROV and next the ROV combined with UUV is retrieved. For estimating the relative position between the ROV and UUV, in this paper, combining RF sensors and vision system is proposed. The RSSI method of RF sensors is used to estimate the distance and the optical image is combined for the directional information.

  • Radio Frequency (RF) signal fluctuates dynamically in wireless communication environments, where this fluctuation is severe especially in vehicular environments. Automatic Gain Control (AGC) is critical in wireless communications to establish reliable communication links and compensate the received signal fluctuation. In this paper, we introduce a simple and novel AGC scheme which uses both Received Signal Strength Indicator (RSSI) and analog-to digital converter (ADC) signals. Performance enhancement of the proposed AGC scheme is verified with practical measurements including simulations.

  • In this paper, we propose the localization algorithm for the cooperative behavior of the swarm robots based on WSN (Wireless Sensor Network). The proposed method is as follows: First, we measure positions of the L-bot (Leader robot) and F-bots (Follower robots) by using the APIT (Approximate Point In Triangle) and the RSSI (Received Signal Strength Indication). Second, we measure relative positions of the F-bots against the pre-measured position of the L-bot by using trilateration. Then, to revise a position error caused by noise of the wireless signal, we use the particle filter. Finally, we show the effectiveness and feasibility of the proposed method though some simulations.

  • Recently, indoor LBS has been attracting much attention because of its promising prospect. One of key technologies for its success is indoor location estimation. A popular one for indoor positioning is to find the location based on the strength of received Wi-Fi signals. Since the Wi-Fi services are currently prevalent, it can perform indoor positioning without any further infrastructure. However, it is found that its accuracy depends heavily on the surrounding radio environment. To alleviate this difficulty, we present a novel indoor position technique employing the geomagnetic characteristics as well as Wi-Fi signals. The geomagnetic characteristic is known to vary according to the location. Therefore, employing the geomagnetic signal in addition to Wi-Fi signals is expected to improve the location estimation accuracy.

  • Location awareness is an important capability for mobile-based indoor services. Those indoor services have motivated the implementation of methods that need high computational load cost and complex mechanisms for positioning prediction. These mechanisms, such as opportunistic sensing and machine learning, require more energy consumption to achieve accuracy. In this paper, we propose the Bluetooth Low Energy indoor zone detection (BLEIZOD) technique. This method exploits the concept of proximity zone to reduce the load cost and complexity. Our proposed method implements the received signal strength indicator (RSSI) function more effectively to gain accuracy and reduce energy consumption.
