정사각 직관과 $180^{\circ}$ 곡관내 난류유동의 레이놀즈응력모형 적용 (Turbulent Flow through a Square Straight and Curved Duct with Reynolds Stress Models)

  • Fine grid calculations are reported for the developing turbulent flow in a straight duct and a curved duct of square cross-section with a radius of curvature to hydraulic diameter ratio ${\delta}=R_c/H_H=3.357$ and a bend angle of 180 deg. A sequence of modeling refinements is introduced; the replacement of wall function by a fine mesh across the sublayer and a low Reynolds number second moment closure up to the near wall sublayer in which the non-linear return to isotropy model and the cubic-quasi-isotropy model for the pressure strain are adopted; and the introduction of a multiple source model for the exact dissipation rate equation. Each refinement is shown to lead to an appreciable improvement in the agreement between measurement and computation.

  • The present work analyzed the effect of mixing vane shape on the flow structure and heat transfer downstream of mixing vane in a subchannel of fuel assembly, by obtaining velocity and pressure fields, turbulent intensity, flow-mixing factors, heat transfer coefficient and friction factor using three-dimensional RANS analysis. NJl5, NJ25, NJ35, NJ45, which were designed by the authors, were tested to evaluate the performances in enhancing the heat transfer. Standard $\kappa-\epsilon$ model is used as a turbulence closure model, and, periodic and symmetry conditions are set as boundary conditions. The flow blockage ratio is kept constant, but the twist angle of mixing vane is changed. The results with three turbulence models( $\kappa-\epsilon$, $\kappa-\omega$, RSM) were compared with experimental data.

Performance of cyclone separator for syngas production in downdraft gasifier

  • The excess use of conventional sources of energy by the industries and power sector result in acute shortage of energy produced by fossil fuel. To overcome this energy crisis, biomass feedstock is used to produce syngas or producer gas. For cleaning the dust particle present in the producer gas cyclone separators are largely used. In this paper we investigate the performance parameters of cyclone separator mainly efficiency and pressure drop for different feedstock. Cyclone performance has been evaluated based on experimentation and empirical approach using Leith and Licht model. The same has also been calculated by using turbulent RSM in Ansys Fluent for Wood and Coconut shell feedstock. Experimental results show that using feed stock with 10 % Calcium oxide (CaO) by weight, the efficiency of cyclone got reduced from 71.87% to 70.75% for wood feed stock, whereas in case of coconut shell, the cyclone efficiency got reduced from 78% to 73.44%. It is also seen that Leith and Licht model and Reynolds stress model (RMS) predicts very close to the particle collection efficiency evaluated by using experimental data.

  • It is experimentally well-known that high anisotropies of the turbulent flow field are dominant inside the tip leakage vortex, which is attributable to a substantial proportion of the total loss and constitutes one of the dominant mechanisms of the noise generation. This anisotropic nature of turbulence invalidates the use of the conventional isotropic eddy viscosity turbulence models based on the Boussinesq assumption. In this study, to check whether an anisotropic turbulence model is superior to the isotropic ones or not, the results obtained from the steady-state Reynolds averaged Navier-Stokes simulations based on the RNG k-$\varepsilon$ model and the Reynolds stress model (RSM) are compared with experimental data for two test cases: a linear compressor cascade and a forward-swept axial-flow fan. Through this comparative study of turbulence models, it is clearly shown that the RSM, which can express the production term and body-force term induced by system rotation without introducing any modeling, should be used to predict quantitatively the complex tip leakage flow, especially in the rotating environment.

다양한 형상에 따른 타원형 핀-튜브 열교환기의 열전달 특성에 관한 수치해석 (Numerical Analysis for Heat Transfer Characteristics of Elliptic Fin-Tube Heat Exchanger with Various Shapes)

  • 본 연구는 타원형 핀-튜브 열교환기에 대해 AR, 피치, 와류발생기의 위치, 튜브 표면의 돌기형상에 따른 열전달계수 및 압력강하 특성을 수치해석으로 분석하였다. CFD해석시 경계조건으로는 튜브표면의 온도는 348 K이고, 입구공기속도는 1~5 m/s 범위로 가정하였고, 수치해석시 사용된 모델로는 민감도를 고려하여 RSM 7차 난류모델을 하였다. 해석결과로는 AR 및 세로피치가 작을수록 열전달률이 향상되는 것으로 나타났으며 가로피치에 대한 영향은 근소한 차이를 나타냈으며, 와류발생기의 설치는 튜브 전방에 위치할수록 열전달특성상 양호한 것으로 나타났다. 또한 튜브표면의 돌기형상은 톱니형보다 원형이 압력강하나 열전달특성이 유리한 것으로 나타났다.

Validation of RANS models and Large Eddy simulation for predicting crossflow induced by mixing vanes in rod bundle

  • The crossflow is the key phenomenon in turbulent flow inside rod bundles. In order to establish confidence on application of computational fluid dynamics (CFD) to simulate the crossflow in rod bundles, three Reynolds-Averaged Navier Stokes (RANS) models i.e. the realizable k-ε model, the k-ω SST model and the Reynolds stress model (RSM), and the Large Eddy simulations (LES) with the Wall-Adapting Local Eddy-viscosity (WALE) model are validated based on the Particle Image Velocimetry (PIV) flow measurement experiment in a 5 × 5 rod bundle. In order to investigate effects of periodic boundary condition in the gap, the numerical results obtained with four inner subchannels are compared with that obtained with the whole 5 × 5 rod bundle. The results show that periodic boundaries in the gaps produce strong errors far downstream of the spacer grid, and therefore the full 5 × 5 rod bundle should be simulated. Furthermore, it can be concluded, that the realizable k-ε model can only provide reasonable results very close to the spacer grid, while the other investigated models are in good agreement with the experimental data in the whole downstream flow in the rod bundle. The LES approach shows superiority to the RANS models.

냉장 컨테이너 내부의 공기유동 및 열전달 현상에 대한 CFD 시뮬레이션 (CFD Simulation of Airflow and Heat Transfer in the Cold Container)

  • To prevent deterioration of agricultural products during cold transportation, optimized temperature control is essential. Because the control of temperature and thermal uniformity of transported products are mainly governed by cooling air flow pattern in the transportation equipment, the accurate understanding and removal of appearance of stagnant air zone by poor ventilation is key to design of optimized cooling environment. The objectives of this study were to develop simulation model to predict the airflow and heat transfer phenomena in the cold container and to evaluate the effect of fan blowing velocity on the temperature level and uniformity of products using the CFD approach. Comparison of CFD prediction with PIV measurement showed that RSM turbulent model reveals the more reasonable results than standard $k-{\varepsilon}$ model. The increment of fan blowing velocity improved the temperature uniformity of product and reduced almost linearly the averaged temperature of product.

LNG 운반선에 대한 수치해 변화에 영향을 주는 요소에 관한 연구 (Research of Elements Giving Effects on the Numerical Analysis for the LNG Carrier)

  • Numerical analysis using the FLUENT is performed for the 138K LNG carrier of the MOERI. In this study, results according to the number and also the type of the grid, different turbulent models, variations of y+ are compared with experiments and computational results from the WAVIS. RSM model gives good result in comparison with other models, and the more the number of grid increase, the better the resistance converges to the constant value. Additionally, it is confirmed that the resistance and wake distributions vary with the change of y+, and O-O type grid yields better wake distributions than that of O-H type. Average velocity distributions and velocity profiles are mainly in accord with experiments and computational results of the WAVIS, however, present results in the region of transom and tip of leading edge of the rudder are poor for the lower velocity components comparing with that of the WAVIS.

교반탱크에서 베플 형상의 영향에 관한 수치 해석적 연구 (A Numerical Analysis on Effect of Baffles in a Stirred Vessel)

  • 교반기에서의 유동 특성은 광범위한 산업 분야에서 매우 유용하다. 일반적으로 교반되는 용기에서의 유동 패턴, 전력 소비 및 혼합 시간은 임펠러의 설계뿐만 아니라 용기 형상 및 내부 구조에 달려 있다. 본 연구에서는 베플 형상과 임펠러의 상호 작용에 의해 생성되는 불안정하고 비정상상태의 복잡한 유동 특성 분석을 ANSYS FLUENT LES 난류 모델을 사용하여 수행하였다. Axial Flow 와 Radial Flow 두 가지 타입의 회전 임펠러와 3가지 베플의 형상 사이의 상호 작용과 영향을 전산유체역학(CFD)으로 예측 비교함으로써 교반 시 임펠러와 베플 주변에서의 유동 특성과 혼합 유동장에서 상대적으로 효율적인 경향을 보이는 설계 모델을 검증할 수 있었다.

정사각형 단면을 갖는 180° 곡관에서 위치별 속도분포특성 및 직관거리의 유효성에 관한 연구 (A Study on Velocity Distribution Characteristics for Each Location and Effectiveness of Straight Duct Length in a Square-sectional 180° Bended Duct)

  • 본 연구는 정사각형 단면 $180^{\circ}$ 곡관 내의 유동특성을 파악하기 위해 RSM 난류모델을 이용하여 작동유체, 입구의 공기속도, 관내의 표면조도, 곡률반경 및 수력직경 등의 다양한 유동인자를 변경하여 각도 위치별 속도분포특성을 수치해석을 통하여 고찰하였다. CFD 해석시 경계조건은 공기와 물의 입구온도를 288 K, 293 K로 설정하였고, 입구의 공기속도, 관내의 표면조도, 곡률반경 및 수력직경은 각각 3~15 m/s, 0~0.001 mm, 2.5~4.5D, 70~100 mm로 적용하여 해석을 수행하였다. 그 결과를 정리하면, 작동유체의 유동특성은 유체의 점성력 차이로 속도분포가 크게 달라짐을 알 수 있었고, 곡관부 내에서의 최대 속도프로파일은 $90^{\circ}$ 단면위치에서 X/D=0.8 영역으로 나타났으며, $180^{\circ}$ 단면위치에서는 Y/D=0.8 영역으로 나타났다. 그리고 관내의 표면조도가 낮고, 곡률반경이 클수록 속도변화율은 크게 변하여 나타냈다. 또한 곡관후류의 직관부에서 유동편차가 안정화되는 직관거리는 L/D=30 영역에서 나타내어 유량 계측시 유효한 측정위치로 잘 제시할 수 있었으며, 수력직경에 따라 곡관후류 직관부의 표준편차특성은 동일한 유속일 때 최소의 편차영역은 대체로 직관거리 L/D=15~30 범위로 나타났다.
