  • This paper introduces the case study of constructing a quest engine system in a commercial online game. The system can help several operations for quests such as modeling and execution with a dedicated script language. Since the many attributes of a quest, including the type or preconditions or execution ordering of quests, could be represented well with the script, game developers can constitute and modify a quest system very easily. Thus it is expected that the quest system introduced in this paper can be a good guideline to the developers of online RPG games.

  • In this paper we suggested a map management method for on line RPG supporting full 3D. In general, it is possible to support full 3D with client engine. Rut the online game server cannot show the expected performance under normal price constrains with current hardware technology, since the amount of data for management of 3D on-line game server increase exponentially with respect to the size of game world. To solve this problem. we introduced the "special object" which makes it possible for on-line game server with low performance hardware. This suggested method gave concrete from to manage full 3D for server as well as clients.s clients.

  • This study assumed the competitive structure based on genre classification for Korean online game market, and carried out the analysis on the degree and characteristics of the competition that appear differently in each sub market classified according to the genre. Analysis result can be summarized as follows. (1) In the view of the total play time, the proportions of the online games in each genre were appeared in the order of "RPG > FPS/RTS > Sports > Arcade/Poker > Go-stop > Board/Racing". (2) In the view of the shares in the play time, the degree of competition between games in the sub market structure of the online games according to the genre was found in the order of "RTS > Racing > FPS/Sports > Go-stop > Poker > Arcade/Board > RPG". The evaluation and interpretation of the high and low of the competition degree are as follows. As the degree of competition is higher, (RTS > Racing > ${\cdots}$) the royalty and the ratio of reusing of the users for the game is lower, and on the other hand, the tendency of replacing and using appeared higher, so the market entry barrier for a new game can be evaluated to be low. Reversely, as the degree of competition is lower, (${\cdots}$ > Arcade/Board > RPG) the royalty and the ratio of reusing of the users for the game is higher, and on the other hand, the tendency of replacing and using appeared lower, so the market entry barrier for a new game can be evaluated to be high.

  • Along with the development of mobile technology, mobile game has undergone a change from downloadable game to network game, where a large number of users connect to server and play real-time game with a mobile phone. In order to develop these mobile network games economically, a proper, suitable game engine is needed. This study proposes the result of design and implementation of RWMMO-GE(Realtime Wireless Massively Multiplayer Online RPG Game Engine) that is used to develop a mobile network game. The structure of RWMMO-GE, which is the research result of this study, consists of major components such as Network/Client Module, Object Module, Map Tool, Script Editor, and Character Editor. The characteristics of the multiplayer mobile game developed by this engine is that a large number of players can play real-time game in a single map, which implies a possibility of a new business model in this area. This research is a result of the RWMMO-GE supported by 2006 IT Excellent Technology Support Project(No:A1300-0601-0125) of IITA(Institute Information Technology Advancement).

First, to analyze the market power of the rank 1 and 2 game contents in each genre, using the play time share ratio and standard deviation statistics values in the genre, ANOVA analysis and Cluster analysis were carried out for each genre. According to ANOVA analysis result, in the rank 1 game share ratio in each genre, there was a relationship of 'FPS/Racing > RST/Sports > Poker > Go-stop > RPG > Arcade > Board', and in the play time total share ratio of rank 1 and 2 games, the relationship of 'RTS > FPS/Racing > Sports > RPG > Go-stop > Poker > Arcade > Board' was verified. And in Cluster analysis, the groups of the genres with the degree of market power tendency and the variability at similar level were classified and stated.

  • Battles between players and monsters are considered to be the core issues of RPG games, and they are something that effects the players the most when it comes to thinking whether that particular game is fun or not. Even though MMORPGs have enabled RPGs to get out of the repetitiveness into unlimited possibility of expandability and capability of modification of game plays, essential game play process remains still important - the basic battle between the player and the monsters. In this research, we made a simulator to simulate the process of the battles to estimate results of battles by pre-testing the battles with setting up the experience values of players and monsters using formulae needed for the battle systems at the beginning of game development. It can be utilized at a tester to find out a better configuration of monsters in the maps for better optimization of time and efficiency of the battles to satisfy the game planning.
