The head forward posture than before the experiment, each experimental group was significantly increased(p<.05). 2) Prior and two weeks measurement did not show significant differences. The experimental group than ever cervical ROM of the movable range increased significantly(p<.05). 3) The experimental group was significantly lower than before the VAS(p<.05). 4) HIT score of the experimental group was significantly lower than before(p<.05). Conclusion : These findings suggest that air-pressure cervical traction had effect on the tension headache in the adults.
Purpose: The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of CD-ROM education on anxiety and self-care compliance in patients undergoing spinal surgery. Method: This study used a nonequivalent control time difference design. A sample of 51 participants received both CD-ROM education (n=25) or booklet education (n=26) regarding spinal surgery procedure and postoperative self-care. The data were collected using a self-administered questionnaire containing State-Trait Anxiety Inventory (STAI Form Y-2), Visual analog scale, and self-care compliance. Result: The level of trait anxiety in the experimental group was not significantly different from that in the control group (t=-6.44, p=.523). The level of state anxiety in the experimental group was significantly lower than in that the control group according to time changes (F=4.17, p=.018). State anxiety showed significantly negative correlation to self-care compliance (r=-.30, p=.034). Conclusion: The education program using CD-ROM for spinal surgery patients can be applied to nursing practice for relieving state anxiety and promoting self-care compliance.
Purpose: This study was intended to examine an effect of taping therapy for adults suffering from ankle pain. Method: A non-equivalent control group pretest-posttest design was used for the study. An experimental group had 32 subjects and a control group 23 subjects. Subjects from the experimental group were taped for 24 hours and thereafter their range of motion [ROM], pain, and discomfort in the injured ankle were evaluated. SPSS Windows was used for data analysis. Result: The degree of ROM of the taped experimental subjects was greater compared to that of non-taped control subjects. The score of ankle pain of the taped subjects was lower than that of non-taped subjects. The score of ankle discomfort of the taped subjects was lower than that of non-taped subjects. Conclusion: This taping therapy can be used independently by nurses as an effective nursing intervention to decrease ankle pain and discomfort after the injury of ankle, which would contribute to expanding a realm of nursing.
This study analyzed and compared wearer mobility for different types of clothing that also included the potential to develop firefighter station uniforms using range of motion (ROM) and electromyography (EMG). This study focused on a comparison of wearer mobility affected by different materials and shapes of the station uniforms worn under firefighter turnout gear. Japanese standard uniform (UNI), stretch-wear (ST), and compression-wear (CP) were used as station uniforms for the experiment. This study analyzed wearer movements and quantified ROM and EMG. In addition, the subjective evaluation of wearer mobility and comfort were assessed for comparisons. Nine healthy male students participated in the experiment. Wearer mobility was analyzed using ROM and EMG data obtained by measuring five motions; in addition, subjective evaluations were also obtained. As compared with the standard station uniform, ROM increased 6.8 % and 7.2 % due to stretch-wear and compression-wear. The benefits of wearing stretch material or compression material to improve muscle performance (such as reduced percent of maximum voluntary contraction) were not proven. Differences between materials and designs influenced subjective wearer comfort. In particular, the wearing of compression materials was shown best in terms of wearer comfort that may also allow greater wearer mobility.

Background: Neck pain is a common problem in the general population and second only to low back pain in musculoskeletal problems. The aim of this study is to compare three different types of exercise training in patients with chronic neck pain. Methods: This study was conducted on 45 patients with neck pain. Patients were divided into 3 groups: Group 1 (conventional treatment), Group 2 (conventional treatment plus deep cervical flexor training), and Group 3 (conventional treatment plus stabilization of the neck and core region). The exercise programs were applied for four weeks, three days a week. The demographic data, pain intensity (verbal numeric pain scale), posture (Reedco's posture scale), cervical range of motion ([ROM] goniometer), and disability (Neck Disability Index [NDI]) were evaluated. Results: In all groups, a significant improvement was found in terms of pain, posture, ROM, and NDI values in all groups (P < 0.001). Between the groups, analyses showed that the pain and posture improved more in Group 3, while the ROM and NDI improved more in Group 2. Conclusions: In addition to conventional treatment, applying core stabilization exercises or deep cervical flexor muscle training to patients with neck pain may be more effective in reducing pain and disability and increasing ROM than conventional treatment alone.
Recently, optical disk drives are increasingly demanded to have higher speed as well as high information density, especially for applications like CD ROM drives. To this end, improvement of their optical pickup structure and control is recognized the very challenging issue. In this paper, the pickup is first analytically modelled in a plane to describe its coupled auto-focusing and auto-tracking motions. Subsequently, the model is linearized and combined with actuator dynamics for the auto-focusing system. With its unmeasurable parameters being estimated based on experimental data, an approximate I-DOF linear model is obtained neglecting the coupling term. To design the high speed and robust positional servo controller realistic design specifications are addressed, and H control method is employed based on the approximate model. Finally, taking the pickup in a commerical high speed CD ROM drive as an example performance of the designed controller is verified through realtime experiments.
This paper descrisbes the implementation of a 20D DCT that can be used for video conference, JPEG, and MPEG-related applications. The implemented DCT consists of two 1-D DCTs and a transposed memory between them, and uses ROM-based multipliers instead of conventional ones. As the system bit length, the minimum bit length that satisfies the accuracy specified by the ITU standard H.261 was chosen through the simulations using the C language. The proposed design uses a dual port RAM for the transposed memory, and processes two bits of input-pixel data simultaneously t ospeed up addition process using two sets of ROMs. The basic system architecture was designed using th Synopsys schematic editor, and internal modules were described in VHDL and synthesized to logic level after simulation. Then, the compass silicon compiler was used to create the final lyout with 0.8um CMOS libraries, using the standard cell approach. The final layout contains about 110, 000 transistors and has a die area of 4.68mm * 4.96mm, and the system has the processing speed of about 50M pixels/sec.
The irrigation reservoir operation models developed were tested with weather and field data, and the sensitivity of the water requirement deficiency indices(WRDI) were checked with different initial reservoir storages, irrigated areas, and other water uses from the reservoir storage. Seven reservoir release rules were applied to Yongseol Reservoir. Twenty year WRDIs were computed to check performances of those reservoir release rules. Mean WRDIs were 138, 198, 198, 200, 240, 344, and 1033mm for ROM, TOS, COS, CRR, MSC, FAS, and SRC, respectively. The results indicated that ROM contributes consistently to higher operation efficiencies of an irrigation reservoir. The test results of LFROM and SFROM showed that reservoir operation with the proposed optimization technique ROM would be better suited for an irrigation district than those with the other rules. And the proposed model could be used as a tool to improve reservoir operations.
Purpose: The aim of this pilot study was to determine the effect of soft tissue technique (STT) in Axillary Web Syndrome (AWS) following sentinel Lymph Node Biopsy in breast cancer patients by examining the upper extremity function, range of motion, and pain. Methods: Nineteen patients with breast cancer-related AWS were evaluated. STT was performed on the symptom area for treatment of AWS symptoms. We evaluated AWS symptoms and pain intensity using a visual analogue scale (VAS), and functional disability using the Korean version of the Disabilities of Arm, Shoulder, and Hand (DASH) questionnaire, glenohumeral joint (GHJ) flexion and abduction range of motion (ROM) with or without elbow extension. Results: Visual analyses of the data suggest a modest effect of STT in improving GHJ flexion, abduction ROM with or without elbow extension, DASH for upper extremity function, and Pain. The statistically significant improvement in baseline observed for pain, DASH, and ROM data made it impossible to assess the effects of STT on those outcomes. There were no adverse events. Conclusions: STT may be an effective and safe treatment option for AWS patients recovering from breast cancer treatment; however, further research is needed.
In this paper, a real-time pitch detector LPC vocoder as implemented on a high speed digital signal processor, NEC 7720, is described. The pitch detector was based mainly on the SIFT algorithm. The SIFT pitch detector consists primarily of a digital low pass filter, inverse filter, computation of autocorrelation, a peak picker, interpolation, V/UV defcision and a final pitch smoother. In our approach, modification, mainly on the V/UV decision and a final pitch smoother, was made to estimate more accurate pitches. An 16-bit fixed-point aithmatic was employed for all necessary computation and the simulated results were compared with the eye detected pitches obtained from real speech data. The pitch detector occupies 98.8% of the instruction ROM, 37% of the data ROM, and 94% of internal RAM and takes 15.2ms to estimate a pitch when an analysis frame is consisted of 128 sampled speech data. It is observed that the tested results were well agreed with the computer simulation results.
