Impact of Role-play activities on academic achievement and learning attitude in science class (과학수업에서 역할놀이 활동이 학업성취도와 학습태도에 미치는 영향)

  • Cell division in biological education is an important and unintelligible unit. Most of students have no interest in learning the content, and don't concentrate on it because cell division unit contains relatively difficult content. In this vein, during considering the effective learning methods, the researcher found role-play as the method for student's positive access to important and unintelligent learning content. Effect of role-play on their learning achievement of science was analysed through the Chapter of cell division on 3rd grade of middle school students. For this study three levels of middle school students were selected from the school located in Seoul. And divided this students into experiment group and control group by 2 classes respectively. Before putting into practice this instruction, there took into account the before and after of students' learning achievement and their learning attitude by using same questionnaire. On the other hand, the researcher put into practice co-variate analysis by using SPSS statistical package as the measurement method.

Recognition of professionals and staff in roles of the central, district, and municipal Healthy Family Centers (건강가정지원센터에 대한 전문가 및 실무자의 역할인식 조사연구 -중앙, 광역(시.도), 시.군.구 센터를 구분하여-)

  • The purpose of this study is to define the roles of the central, district, and municipal Healthy Family Support Centers in order to establish their individual identities. Two hundred twenty-five 225 subjects were surveyed with a questionnaire about the role of each Healthy Family Support Center. The subjects of this study were professors, public officials and staff who were in charged of the Healthy Family Support Centers. This study revealed the following results. First, the central Healthy Family Support Center should playa supportive role to develop and propagate a variety of programs which can be used for the clients in the district and municipal Healthy Family Support Centers. Second, roles of the district Healthy Family Support Center are highly recognized not only for their supportive role in activating municipal Healthy Family Centers but also for their publicity role in them. Finally, the most necessary role of the municipal Healthy Family Support Center is to manage family counseling and family education. In order to accomplish the roles of each Healthy Family Support Center, the mutual relationship among central, district, and municipal Healthy Family Support Centers should be horizontal. Moreover, district Healthy Family Support Centers should be promptly established in order to enable for the central Center to play its roles properly.

Investigating the Effects of Relationship Quality on Organizational Commitment and Prosocial Behavior in Hotel Food & Beverage Division

  • The present study examines the relationship among relationship quality, organizational commitment, and prosocial behavior. In this study, relationship quality is defined as relationship quality between manager and employee (RQME) and relationship quality between organization and employee (RQOE). The authors also investigate the mediating roles of RQOE and organizational commitment in the conceptual research model. Findings indicate that RQME has a positive and direct effect on RQOE, organizational commitment, and prosocial behavior. The results also show that both RQOE and organizational commitment have a mediating role in the relationship between RQME and prosocial behavior of employees. Finally, the authors found that RQOE influences prosocial behavior through organizational commitment.

Repression of the F-box protein Skp2 is essential for actin damage-induced tetraploid G1 arrest

  • We previously reported that p53 plays a role as a key regulator in the tetraploid G1 checkpoint, which is activated by actin damage-induced cytokinesis blockade and then prevents uncoupled DNA replication and nuclear division without cytokinesis. In this study, we investigated a role of Skp2, which targets CDK2 inhibitor p27/Kip1, in actin damage-induced tetraploid G1 arrest. Expression of Skp2 was reduced, but p27/Kip1 was increased, after actin damage-induced cytokinesis blockade. The role of Skp2 repression in tetraploid G1 arrest was investigated by analyzing the effects of ectopic expression of Skp2. After actin damage, ectopic expression of Skp2 resulted in DNA synthesis and accumulation of multinucleated cells, and ultimately, induction of apoptosis. These results suggest that Skp2 repression is important for sustaining tetraploid G1 arrest after cytokinesis blockade and is required to prevent uncoupled DNA replication and nuclear division without cytokinesis.

Role of Radiotherapy in Gastric Cancer (위암 환자에서 방사선치료의 역할)

  • The incidence of gastric cancer has steadily declined and the overall mortality rate from gastric cancer has similarly decreased. However, compared to other malignancies, the quality of life and life expectancy remain relatively poor in patients with gastric cancer. For gastric cancers, surgical resection is the main treatment, but the optimal therapeutic strategy for locally advanced gastric cancer remains undefined. For many patients with gastric cancer, not only chemotherapy but also radiotherapy plays a crucial role in both the curative and palliative settings. In this article, we review the evidence for the different treatment paradigms with a particular focus on the role of radiotherapy.

TRAF6 Distinctly Regulates Hematopoietic Stem and Progenitors at Different Periods of Development in Mice

  • Tumor necrosis factor receptor-associated factor 6 (TRAF6) is identified as a signaling adaptor protein that regulates bone metabolism, immunity, and the development of several tissues. Therefore, its functions are closely associated with multiple diseases. TRAF6 is also involved in the regulation of hematopoiesis under steady-state conditions, but the role of TRAF6 in modulating hematopoietic stem and progenitor cells (HSPCs) during the developmental stages remains unknown. Here, we report that the deletion of TRAF6 in hematopoietic lineage cells resulted in the upregulation of HSPCs in the fetal liver at the prenatal period. However, in the early postnatal period, deletion of TRAF6 drastically diminished HSPCs in the bone marrow (BM), with severe defects in BM development and extramedullary hematopoiesis in the spleen being identified. In the analysis of adult HSPCs in a BM reconstitution setting, TRAF6 played no significant role in HSPC homeostasis, albeit it affected the development of T cells. Taken together, our results suggest that the role of TRAF6 in regulating HSPCs is altered in a spatial and temporal manner during the developmental course of mice.

  • Neurofibromatosis type 1 (NF1) is an autosomal dominant disorder. NF1 patients are predisposed to formation of several type solid tumors as well as to juvenile myelomonocytic leukemia. Loss of NF1 results in dysregulation of MAPK, PI3K and other signaling cascades, to promote cell proliferation and to inhibit cell apoptosis. The RUNX1 gene is associated with stem cell function in many tissues, and plays a key role in the fate of stem cells. Aberrant RUNX1 expression leads to context-dependent tumor development, in which RUNX1 may serve as a tumor suppressor or an oncogene in specific tissue contexts. The co-occurrence of mutation of NF1 and RUNX1 is detected rarely in several cancers and signaling downstream of RAS-MAPK can alter RUNX1 function. Whether aberrant RUNX1 expression contributes to NF1-related tumorigenesis is not fully understood. This review focuses on the role of RUNX1 in NF1-related tumors and blood disorders, and in sporadic cancers.
