  • Ultrasonic inspection system consist of the examination procedures, equipment, and operators. The reliability of nondestructive testing is influenced by the inspection environment, materials and types of defect. It is very difficult to estimate the reliability of NDT due to the various factors. Piping inspection round robin was conducted to quantify the capability of ultrasonic inspection during in-service. In this study, the models for predicting the ultrasonic NDE reliability by logistic model and linear regression model are discussed. The utility of the NDT reliability assessment is verified by the analysis of the data from round robin test with these models.

  • The Korea Institute of Nuclear Safety, as a representative organization of Korea, in February 2012 participated in an international Program to Assess the Reliability of Emerging Nondestructive Techniques initiated by the U.S. Nuclear Regulatory Commission. The goal of the Program to Assess the Reliability of Emerging Nondestructive Techniques is to investigate the performance of emerging and prospective novel nondestructive techniques to find flaws in nickel-alloy welds and base materials. In this article, Korean round-robin test results were evaluated with respect to the test blocks and various nondestructive examination techniques. The test blocks were prepared to simulate large-bore dissimilar metal welds, small-bore dissimilar metal welds, and bottom-mounted instrumentation penetration welds in nuclear power plants. Also, lessons learned from the Korean round-robin test were summarized and discussed.

  • This study analyzes a load balancing technique using Round Robin Algorithm. The study uses two software packages (Packet Capture and Round Robin Test Package) to check packet volume from Virtual Network structure (data generator, virtual server, Server1,2,3), and finds out traffic distribution toward Server1,2 and 3. The functions of implemented Round Robin Load Balancing Monitoring System include round robin testing, system monitoring, and graphical indication of data transmission and packet volume. As the result of the study shows, Round Robin Algorithm allows servers to ensure definite traffic distribution, unless incoming data loads differ much. Although error levels are high in some cases, they were eventually alleviated by repeated tests for a long period of time.

  • In 1923 Pierre-Robin first described the triad of micrognathia, glossptosis and high-arched or cleft palate. Respiratory distress is not an uncommon occurrence and requires prompt and appropriate treatment. The syndrome occurs once in approximately 50,000 births. Although the etiology of the syndrome is obscure, it is known that the syndrome probably results from a primary deficiency early in fetal life of mandibular development. The symptoms of airway obstruction develop as the base of the tongue falls posteriorly and approximates the posterior pharyngeal wall because of micrognathia, and is aggravated when the infant is in the supine position. The problems of mild airway obstruction can be solved by keeping the infant in the prone position. In case there are feeding difficulties, prompt glossopexy should be preformed as airway is aggravated, but tracheostomy is best avoided. There is some forms of glossopexy including Douglas operation, the insertion of Kirschner wire and Duhamel suture. We identified micrognathia, glossoptosis and high-arched palate in a 2-month-old infant who was brought to our hospital with complaints of dyspnea and feeding difficulties, and we reports this case, since we think this infant whom we observe after tracheostomy because we found Duhamel suture could not relieve the symptoms of airway obstruction as Pierre-Robin syndrome.

  • This report describes a preliminary study necessary to implement Measurement Assurance Program (MAP). The purpose of the study is to improve the measurement reliability of the laboratories which take environmental pollution measurement. We carried out the interlaboratory test or "Round-Robin" test program in which seven laboratories participated in order to obtain more reliable data about water pollution.pollution.

  • The ideal of middle class British masculinity and the representative of the new Victorian respectability, the ″gentleman″ was difficult to define amidst the class mobility and social change of the nineteenth century. Was the gentleman to be identified by class and by money\ulcorner By behavior and clothing\ulcorner By religion and morality\ulcorner This essay focuses on the problem of the ″gentleman″ as it was debated in the Victorian era and as it was reflected in the biography and work of the mid-nineteenth century's most important English writer, Charles Dickens. I examine the critical debate surrounding the Victorian idea of the ″gentleman″ by comparing the arguments of Shirley Robin Letwin's The Gentleman in Trollope(1982) and Robin Gilmour's The Idea of the Gentleman in the Victorian Novel(1981). Letwin views the ″gentleman″ as largely transcending class structure, while Gilmour's more historically-conscious view locates the gentleman as emerging out of, and even enabling, the class negotiations of this period. Against the backdrop of such debates, I discuss Charles Dickens's struggles with the idea of the gentleman in theory and in practice. In his novels, especially his semi-autobiographical bildungsromane about the growth and development of boys into adulthood, Dickens prominently engages with the identity and definition of the gentleman. As I demonstrate in this essay, this interest originated from Dickens's own childhood trauma and his subsequent drive to attain gentility, a necessity complicated by the vicissitudes of his personal and professional life.
