  • Biometrics systems are used in a wide range of areas, including the area of crime prevention, due to their unique characteristics. However, serious problems can occur if biometric information is disclosed to an unauthorized user. To address these issues, this paper proposes a real valued fuzzy vault method, which adopts a real number error correction code to implement a fuzzy vault scheme for protecting fingerprint temples. The proposed method provides the benefit of allowing the private key value to be changed at any time, unlike biometric template such as a fingerprint, which is not easily renewable even if its security has been breached. The validity of the proposed method is verified for fingerprint verification.

  • Biometric techniques have been widely used for various areas including criminal identification due to their reliability. However, they have some drawbacks when the biometric information is divulged to illegal users. This paper proposed multimodal biometric system using a real fuzzy vault by RN-ECC for protecting fingerprint and face template. This proposed method has some advantages to regenerate a key value compared with face or fingerprint based verification system having non-regenerative nature and to implement advanced biometric verification system by fusion of both fingerprint and face recognition. From the various experiments, we found that the proposed method shows high recognition rates comparing with the conventional methods.

  • Face recognition techniques have been widely used for various areas including criminal identification due to their capability of easy implementing and user friendly interface. However, they have some drawbacks related to individual's privacy in case that his or her face information is divulged to illegal users. So, this paper proposed a novel method for protecting face template based on the real fuzzy vault. This proposed method has some advantages of regenerating a new face template when a registered face template is disclosed. Through implementing and testing the proposed method, we showed its validity and usefulness.
