Ride Quality Investigation of Passenger Cars on Different Road Conditions

  • Objective: The ride qualities of the six passenger cars were evaluated in 4 subjects on the highway and uneven road. The relation between vibration with driving velocity and driving posture were also investigated separately. Background: Ride comfort plays an important role in the vehicle design. Vibration is the one of the principal components associated with ride comfort. Method: The acceleration of the foot, hip and back were measured using B&K accelerometers in this study. The velocity of the passenger cars was maintained at a constant speed of 80km/h on the highway and 40km/h on the uneven road. For evaluating the effects of driving velocity and driving posture on vehicle's vibration level, separate experiments were performed on the highway with 5 different vehicle speeds and 5 different backrest angles, respectively. Results: The overall ride value of the luxury car showed the best result while the smaller car showed the worst value on the highway. On the uneven road the overall ride value level was increased 75~98%. All the vehicles had the SEAT value less than 1. Faster the velocity lowers the SEAT value. The ride quality in terms of vibration gets worst when the backrest angle increased. Conclusion: The smaller car had a first mode at the higher frequency and showed higher vibration level. SEAT value was mostly affected by the seat property not by vehicle. We ranked the luxury car seat had a best vibration reduction quality than others based on SEAT values. When the driving velocity increased, the overall ride values were increased proportionally and the SEAT values were somewhat decreased. 자동차 경주 컴퓨터 게임 시 대형 디스플레이 곡률이 자세 제어에 미치는 영향 (Effects of Large Display Curvature on Postural Control During Car Racing Computer Game Play)

  • 디스플레이 기술은 비약적으로 발전되었다. 특히 플렉서블 디스플레이에 대한 연구를 관련 기업들이 앞다투어 진행하고 있다. 현재 시장에는 플렉서블 디스플레이의 초기 단계인 커브드 디스플레이를 사용한 스마트폰, TV 등이 출시되어 있고, 데스크탑용 커브드 모니터 역시 최근에 출시되어 사무용 또는 엔터테인먼트용으로 이용되고 있다. 본 연구의 목적은 엔터테인먼트용으로 50" 멀티 모니터를 사용시 모니터의 곡률이 사용 자세 제어에 미치는 영향에 관한 것이다. 실험에는 두 종류의 곡률 (평면, 곡률반경 600mm)이 사용되었다. 총 10명의 근골격계질환이 없고, 양안 시력이 모두 0.8이상이고, 색맹 또는 색약이 아닌 평균 (SD) 20.9 (1.5)세의 대학생들이 실험에 참여하였다. 피험자들은 일반적인 VDT 환경의 실험실에서 각 곡률당 30분씩 핸들과 페달을 사용해 운전 게임을 하였다. 각 피험자가 운전 게임을 하는 동안 의자 위에 놓여진 압력 매트를 통해 이들의 COP (Center of Pressure)가 측정되었다. 자세 제어 분석을 위하여, 총 4개의 COP 측정치, Mean Velocity, Median Power Frequency, Root-Mean-Square (RMS) Distance, 그리고 95% Confidence Ellipse Area를 사용하였다. 실험 결과, 곡면대비 평면 디스플레이에서 전후 방향 (Anterior-Posterior; AP)의 RMS distance값이 더 큰 경향을 보였다. 이 결과를 통해 평면 디스플레이를 사용하여 운전 게임을 하는 동안 피험자의 전후 방향으로 몸을 더 많이 움직였다고 할 수 있다. 이는 평면 디스플레이가 곡면 디스플레이보다 화면의 가로방향으로 시거리 차이가 더 크기 때문에, 초점의 이동시간이 더 길어지는 것과 관련이 있을 수 있다. 또한, 평면 디스플레이 대비 곡면 디스플레이에서 더 높은 몰입감을 느끼거나, 더 집중할 수 있는 것과 관련이 있을 수 있다. 디스플레이 곡률에 따른 이런 행동상의 차이가 근골격계 질환에 미치는 영향에 대한 추가 연구가 필요하다.

착용형 관성센서 및 인체 하지부 기구학 기반의 보행자 속도추정에 관한 연구 (Pedestrian Walking Velocity Estimation based on Wearable Inertial Sensors and Lower-limb Kinematics)

  • 본 논문은 하지부의 각 분절에 부착된 착용형 관성센서의 자세 및 각속도 정보와 하지부 기구학을 기반으로 착용자의 보행속도를 추정하는 방법에 관한 연구를 다룬다. 보행 주기 중 발바닥과 지면이 완전히 접촉되지 않는 구간에서는 골반부에 장착된 관성센서의 가속도 출력을 적분하여 보행속도를 추정할 수 있다. 이 때, 보행 시 골반부의 기울어짐으로 인하여 발생되는 가속도의 측정오차의 누적 영향을 최소화하기 위하여, 하지부 기구학을 기반으로 추정된 보행속도를 매 보행 주기마다 골반 관성센서의 가속도 출력신호 적분 초기값으로 갱신한다. 그 결과 6분 가량의 야외 보행 실험을 수행한 결과, 오차 누적에 의한 영향은 관찰되지 않았으며, 보행속도 추정 오차의 RMS는 0.08m/s 이하인 것으로 확인되었다.

서남해안 장대교량에 적합한 설계 풍속 산정 (Estimation of Design Wind Speed Compatible for Long-span Bridge in Western and Southern Sea)

  • 최근들어 사장교나 현수교와 같은 케이블 형식의 장대교량이 많이 건설되거나 계획중에 있다. 하지만 도로교 설계기준에 제시된 풍하중 산정시 중요한 요인인 기본풍속 산정함에 있어서 1995년까지 측정된 풍속자료를 근거로 한 일반교량에 적합한 풍속을 명시하고 있어 장대교량에 적합한 풍속에 대한 재검토가 필요한 상황이다. 본 연구에서는 태풍의 빈도가 높고 대부분의 장대교량이 건설되고 있는 서남해안지역으로 구체화하였다. 풍하중기준과 같이 극치I형분포(Gumbel분포)에 의해 일반교량에 적용할 100년, 장대교량에 적용할 200년 재현기대풍속을 적률법과 최소자승법의 두 가지 방법으로 추정하고, 극한 상황인 해상에서 불어오는 풍속으로 보정하여 지상풍속보다 약 17%정도 큰 값을 추정하였다. RMS error 방법에 의해 재현기대풍속의 적합성을 평가한 결과 최소자승법이 서남해안지역의 경우 적합성이 우수하였다.

정적 연소실내 난류 예혼합화염 전파의 시뮬레이션 (Simulation of Turbulent Premixed Flame Propagation in a Closed Vessel)

  • A theoretical method is described to simulate the propagation of turbulent premixed flames in a closed vessel. The objective is to develop and test an efficient technique to predict the propagation speed of flame as well as the geometric structure of the flame surfaces. Flame is advected by the statistically generated turbulent flow field and propagates as a wave by solving twodimensional Hamilton-Jacobi equation. In the simulation of the unburned gas flow field, following turbulence properties were satisfied: mean velocity field, turbulence intensities, spatial and temporal correlations of velocity fluctuations. It is assumed that these properties are not affected by the expansion of the burned gas region. Predictions were compared with existing experimental data for flames propagating in a closed vessel charged with hydrogen/air mixture with various turbulence intensities and Reynolds numbers. Comparisons were made in flame radius growth rate, rms flame radius fluctuations, and average perimeter and fractal dimensions of the flame boundaries. Two dimensional time dependent simulation resulted in correct trends of the measured flame data. The reasonable behavior and high efficiency proves the usefulness of this method in difficult problems of flame propagation such as in internal combustion engines.

  • Carbon/epoxy composite(CFRP) coupons previously damaged by low velocity impact were tested under static tensile loading and microscope progress of damage was characterized by ultrasonic C-scan, Scanning Acoustic Microscopy (SAM) and Acoustic Emission(AE) techniques which were based on the application of elastic waves. The degress of impact damage has been correlated with the AE activity during monotonic or loading/unloading tensile testing as well as the result of ultrasonic test. The coupons were subjected to impact velocities ranged from 0.71 to 2.17 m/sec, which introduced the amount of damage rated as 0%, 10%, 30%, and 50% with reference to the total absorbed energy at fracture. Special attention was paid to determine optimal AE parameters to characterize the microscopic fracture process and to predict the residual strength of composite laminates. AE RMS voltage during the early stage of tensile loading was found an effective parameter to quantify the degree of impact damage. It was also found that the Felicity ratio is closely related to the stacking sequence and the residual strength of the CFRP laminates.

Effects of Taekwondo and Walking Exercises on the Double-Leg Balance Control of Elderly Females

  • The purpose of this study was to compare and analyze the effect of twelve-week Taekwondo and walking exercises on the double-leg balance control by dividing elderly females into Taekwondo, walking exercise and control groups. In total, 30 elderly females were randomly divided into Taekwondo, walking exercise, and control groups, with 10 subjects in each group. Subjects participating in this study were 10(age $69.4{\pm}5.8$ years), 10(age $71.4{\pm}7.6$ years) and 10(age $70.6{\pm}4.8$ years) in the three groups, respectively. Although the AP measures were not significantly different among the groups and times, the ML RMS distance and ML velocity, among the ML measures showed a significant difference among the groups and times. Average velocity and 95% confidence ellipse area were also significantly different among the groups and times. Twelve-week Taekwondo and walking exercises were found to be effective in improving static balance control. Future studies on the development of a Taekwondo intervention program tailored for the elderly with many subjects conducted by using a long-term training program are expected.

  • DBD(Dielectric Barrier Discharge) plasma in air is well established for the production of large quantities of ozone and is more recently being applied to aftertreatment processes for HAPs(Hazardous Air Pollutants). Aim of this work is to determine design and operating parameters of a hybrid air cleaning system. DBD and ESP(Electrostatic Precipitator) are used as nano particle charger and collector, respectively. Pelletized MnO$_2$ catalyst or activated carbon is used fer ozone decomposition or adsorption material. AC voltage of 7~10 KV(rms) and 60 Hz is used as DBD plasma source. DC - 8 KV is applied to the ESP for particle collection. The overall particle collection efficiency for the hybrid system is over 85 % under 0.64 m/s face velocity. Ozone decomposition efficiency with pelletized MnO$_2$ catalyst or activated carbon packed bed is over 90 % when the face velocity is under 0.4 m/s in dry air.

TRAO Outer Galaxy Surey in $^{13}CO$ I

  • We present a result of $^{13}CO$(1-0) survey toward the Outer Galactic Plane using the multi-beam receiver system recently installed on the 14 m telescope at Taeduk Radio Astronomy Observatory(TRAO). Our first target region is from $l=108^{\circ}$ to $113^{\circ}$ and $b=-1^{\circ}$ to $+1^{\circ}$, and some extended regions are included where emission is still arising. All data are on 50" grid. Velocity resolution is 0.63 km/sec, and the total velocity range is from -150 km/sec to 100 km/sec. A total of 40,000 spectra were obtained. The rms noise is about 0.2 K per channel for unsmoothed raw data. We will present a few initial results of the survey database.

슈라우드로 차폐되어진 단일회전디스크 표면의 열전달 특성 (Heat Transfer Characteristics on a Single Rotating Disk with a Shrouded Cover)

  • The present study investigates the local heat/mass transfer characteristics on a rotating disk which is the top disk covered with a shroud in HDD. The naphthalene sublimation technique is employed to determine the local heat/mass transfer coefficients on the rotating disk. Flow field measurements using Laser Doppler Anemometry (LDA) and numerical calculations are performed to analyze the flow patterns induced by the disk rotation. HDD has been developed for compactness and speedy data access, thus the rotating velocity of the disk is increased and the height of a hub is decreased. The experiments are conducted for the various hub heights of 5, 10 and 15 mm, for the rotating Reynolds numbers of $5.5{\times}10^4$ to $1.1{\times}10^5$ and for the effects of the presence of a read/write head arm. The results show that the heat transfer on the rotating disk is enhanced considerably for the decrease of the hub height and for the increase of the rotating Reynolds number. The head arm inserted in the cavity decreases the heat transfer despite the enhancement of tangential RMS velocity because of the deficit of the momentum in the flow field.
