  • This paper identifies a discrete-time linear combustion model of Refuse Incineration Plant(RIP) which characterizes steam generation quantity, where the RIP is considered as a MIMO system with thirteen-inputs and one-output. The structure of RIP model is described as an ARX model which are analytically obtained from the combustion dynamics. Furthermore, using the Instrumental Variable(IV) identification algorithm, model structure and unknown parameters are identified from experimental input-output data sets, In result, it is shown that the identified ARX model well approximates the input-output combustion characteristics given by experimental data sets.

  • In this paper, previously proposed mechanisms of generation and maintenance of rip currents are grouped into three broad categories; (1) prismatic topography models, (2) non-prismatic topography models and (3) structural controls by natural and/or constructed features, such as headlands, piers. groins, jetties. etc. The prismatic models can explain the occurrence of a rip current on a planar beach, while non-prismatic model needs undulatory topography inside the surf zone to generate and maintain a rip current. Yet more detailed and thorough studies need to be conducted to include all relevant variables and to clarify the mechanism(s) governing rip current. Next a simple model is presented to predict mean longshore currents behind a longshore bar (or submerged breakwaters) by considering mass transport over the bar and the bar morphology. This hydrodynamic model could be extended to include the sedimentary feedback mechanism.

  • It has been shown in compressive sensing that every s-sparse $x{\in}R^N$ can be recovered from the measurement vector y=Ax or the noisy vector y=Ax+e via ${\ell}_1$-minimization as soon as the 3s-restricted isometry constant of the sensing matrix A is smaller than 1/2 or smaller than $1/\sqrt{3}$ by applying the Iterative Hard Thresholding (IHT) algorithm. However, recovery can be guaranteed by practical algorithms for some certain assumptions of acquisition schemes. One of the key assumption is that the sensing matrix must satisfy the Restricted Isometry Property (RIP), which is often violated in the setting of many practical applications. In this paper, we studied a generalization of RIP, called Restricted Biorthogonality Property (RBOP) for anisotropic cases, and the new recovery algorithms called oblique pursuits. Then, we provide an analysis on the success of sparse recovery in terms of restricted biorthogonality constant for the IHT algorithms.

  • A new switchbox router, called CONQUEROR, is proposed in this paper. The proposed CONQUEROR efficiently routes large switchbox routing area using divide-and-conquer technique. The CONQUEROR consists of three phases` namely, partition of large routing area and assignment of optimal pins of sub-area, detailed routing of each sub-ared, reassignment of pins after rip-up. First, large switchbox routing area is partitioned into several sub-areas and each sub-area contains 4-6 detailed grids. Then pins are assigned on boundary of sub-area by the estimated weight. Secondly, when global pin assignment is completed on all sub-areas, each sub-area is routed using detailed router. Also, detailed routing consists of three pases` layerless maze routing, assignment of layer using coloring, and rip-up and reroute. Lastly, if detailed routing of any sub-area fails, reassignment of pins after rip-up is invoked. Detailed routing is performed for the failed sub-area again. Benchmark test cases have been run, and on all the benchmark data known in the literature CONQUEROR has performed as well as or better than existing switchbox routers.

  • In most cases, quantity of reinforcement is determined without regard to the difference of initial strain, and status of damages when calculated the strengthening in flexure at beams. Thus, the purpose of this study is to investigate the flexural strengthening efficiency and behavior of RC beams strengthened with carbon fiber sheets(CFS) considering different status of damages. in this paper, a nonlinear analysis program considering rip-off strength and residual stress of steel bars and concrete in different status of damages is developed to predict the flexural behavior of CFS strengthened beams. Rip-off strength equation is obtained by modifying moment of inertia in the Robert's equation. And conformed developed nonlinear analysis program in variable of strengthening CFS amount and status of damages(initial, case1, case2, case3) and tension reinforcement ratio(0.2~1.0%).

  • The leaves of Mirabilis jalapa L contains protein fraction presumed ribosome-inactivating protein (RIP). RIP is a group of protein that has RNA N-glycosidase activity that is capable to inhibit protein synthesis. Protein fraction of the plant was shown to be cytotoxic on HeLa cell-line, however, the mechanism by which the protein kill the cells is not identified yet, whether trough apoptosis, necrosis, or other mechanism. This research aim to study the mechanism of cell death caused by the protein fraction isolated from the leaves of this plant on HeLa and Raji cell-line, as representative of different kind of cancer cells. Results showed that protein fraction isolated from the leaves of Mirabilis jalapa L was more cytotoxic to HeLa cell-line (LC50: 0.65 mg/ml) than to Raji cell-line (1.815 mg/ml) on 48 hours incubation time. Moreover, it was demonstrated that the death of HeLa cells caused by the protein fraction was due to induction of apoptosis, while on Raji cell-line was due to non-apoptosis way, presumably via necrosis.

  • The impedance pneumography which is widely used in monitoring respiration is simple to use and noninvasive, but it is sensitive to motion artifacts and insensitive to detect obstructive apnea. A 3-channel respiratory inductive plethysmography (RIP) developed in this study detects inductance change of the inductance band induced by cross-sectional area change of thorax or abdomen as one breathes. It was confirmed that RIP was less sensitive to various motion artifacts but more sensitive to detection of obstructive apnea than impedance pneumography.

  • Excessive production of reactive oxygen species (ROS) is a key phenomenon in tumor necrosis factor (TNF)-α-induced cell death. However, the role of ROS in necroptosis remains mostly elusive. In this study, we show that TNF-α induces the mitochondrial accumulation of superoxide anions, not H2O2, in cancer cells undergoing necroptosis. TNF-α-induced mitochondrial superoxide anions production is strictly RIP3 expression-dependent. Unexpectedly, TNF-α stimulates NADPH oxidase (NOX), not mitochondrial energy metabolism, to activate superoxide production in the RIP3-positive cancer cells. In parallel, mitochondrial superoxide-metabolizing enzymes, such as manganese-superoxide dismutase (SOD2) and peroxiredoxin III, are not involved in the superoxide accumulation. Mitochondrial-targeted superoxide scavengers and a NOX inhibitor eliminate the accumulated superoxide without affecting TNF-α-induced necroptosis. Therefore, our study provides the first evidence that mitochondrial superoxide accumulation is a consequence of necroptosis.
