  • Recently, many enterprises are interest in implementing Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID). However, they have some difficulty in implementing RFID because of incompleteness of RFID technology and uncertainty of Return on Investment (ROI). Even though usefulness of RFID are recognized, many enterprises are just interested in planning of RFID rather than implementation of RFID. Among successful factors of RFID implementation, Information Technology (IT) capability is the most important one. If enterprises have systematic IT capability, it would make positive attitude to implement RFID. In addition, it will provide trust about RFID and promote adoption of RFID implementation. This study, therefore, empirically analyzed the relationships of trust, attitude, IT capability, and intention to RFID adoption using Partial Least Squares (PLS) approach. The result show useful guidelines and practical implication in implementing RFID.

  • RFID has fundamental influences on today's business management. This research seeks to formulate the opportunities and challenges, the strengths and weaknesses and the perceived benefits of RFID implementation in three industries: manufacturing, medical-service, and distribution. Ten companies of successful RFID deployment in Korea are presented. Field interview and panel discussion were used to explore the research purpose. The core challenges include RFID readability issues, lack of best practices, increasing prime cost, visible ROI, implementation cost, and employee's resistance. The strengths include IT infrastructure, system integration competency, RFID business model creation ability, executive's support. There is little weakness in Korea companies, there are many perceived benefits in three industries. The most distinctive finding is that the visible ROI was found out in the manufacturing industry, not in the distribution industry. The opportunities and challenges, the strengths and weaknesses and the perceived benefits are some different in three industries, which provide valuable guidance for Korean companies in seeking the RFID opportunities. This case study represents a pioneer research of RFID adoption in Korea.

  • For widespread adoption for the RFID technology, RFID middleware is considered as the key enabler of the RFID evolution while it manages the flow of data between tag readers and enterprise applications and is responsible for the quality, and therefore usability, of the information. In this paper, we introduce the recent researches and developments of RFID middleware and explain the software framework of the RFID middleware which is currently developed in ETRI. In conclusion, our experiences with the current implementation are presented

  • RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) is regarded as one of the greatest contributing 10 technologies of the 21st century, and is a promising technology available to all industries. Each country has tried to develop RFID technology and foster its industry, and Korea has also chosen it as one of new growth engine industries with active support policies. This study was presenting implications necessary to stimulate and expedite RFID demand by analyzing the factors affecting the success of RFID implementation. In order to achieve this purpose, we categorized the factors affecting successful RFID implementation into user factors, technical factors, organizational factors, and external factors, and probed them in the previous literatures. Based on this, conceptual research model and hypothesis were set. Data collection was performed through companies adopting and running RFID, and research model and hypothesis were tested with structural equation model analysis. Finally, implications necessary to stimulate RFID demand and foster its industry were presented founded on the result of empirical analysis.

  • Despite the vast potential opportunities of RFID technology in various industrial applications, deployment of RFID applications is rather limited to meet a large industrial demand in Korea. We conducted in-depth case study to organize the RFID applications in business model framework in order to provide practical insights for the development of innovative RFID applications. Throughout extensive searching for RFID applications in literature, web, news, and policy reports, we first classified passive RFID applications, mobile RFID applications, and active RFID applications. Value creation and implementation issues are compared and analyzed for each of RFID applications using Afuah and Tucci business model. This study can contribute in establishing future development of RFID technology, competitive business strategy, and government policy to stimulate Korea RFID industry.

  • Although current RFID technology can provide wide advantages in food industry, most food companies do not consider widely adopting this technology yet. This paper presents analysis of how the effective implementation of RFID systems in food industry. To Measure the affecting factors, 19 items from Ketinger & Hackbarth, ABI Research, RFID Institutes and Researcher are selected. The validity and reliability of a questionnaire were examined through factor analysis and regression analysis was done by using the introduction of RFID systems and an achievement of ROI(Return On Investment) as dependent variables and the 4 factor scores from the factor analysis as independent variables. The results show that 2 factors are not only important in the introduction of RFID systems but also 3 factors also important for an achievements of ROI in particular.

  • RFID(Radio Frequency Identification) is one of key technologies in ubiquitous computing. RFID system comprises tag, reader, and computer application. The tag is a small electronic chip, which is attached to a thing such as item, pallet, container. The reader has an tiny antenna obtaining the identification information of the things by radio frequency, and provides the information to the computer application for a business. In this paper we have proposed the military application of RFID and its implementation policy for the Korean armed forces. We believe that The principle application area would be logistics TAV(total asset visibility) and resource management, and the implementation should be achieved step by step considering the advancement of RFID technology and government policy.

  • Currently, many companies are interested in (Radio Frequency Identification (RFID). Nonetheless, technical imperfection and the uncertainty of Return on Investment (ROD is discouraging the companies' intention to implement RFID. Accordingly, while a number of companies concede the efficiency of RFID, few of them expresses enthusiasm, making a rain check to adopt RFID. Moreover, the recent economic depression has down-sized the companies' investment on Information Technology (IT), subsequently hindering RFID implementation. In adopting RFID, the collaboration of supply chain is the most importance factor. Therefore, in implementing RFID, many companies reinforced collaboration of supply chain. Therefore, this study will focus on performing an analysis on several factors which influence the intention to adoption of RFID, such as the human factor, technology factor, vender factor and task factor. The results of this study will provide useful guidelines for RFID adoption strategy to Korean companies.

  • As one of core technologies in ubiquitous era, interest and application of RFID is increasing. Although its' applications has been developed in various areas, actual application rate is still underestimated. Previous studies show that most of researches are focused on RFID implementation strategies, emphasizing technical advantages and benefits of RFID. To increase RFID adoption rate, however, end user's attitude about information technology has to be considered. The empirical study has been conducted to analyze user's influential factors which affect the RFID adoption. The results show that some of user's attitude about IT are valid and provide useful guide lines about RFID adoption.
