  • This paper analyzes the tag data inconsistency problem caused by incomplete execution of the tag access operation to the RFID tag's memory and proposes a protocol to control consistent tag data accesses with finalizing the incomplete operation. Passive RFID tag cannot guarantee complete execution of the tag access operations because of uncertainty and unexpected disconnection of RF communications. This leads to the tag data inconsistency problem. To handle this, we propose a concurrency control protocol which defines incomplete tag operations as continuous queries and monitors the tags're-observation continuously. The protocol finalizes the incomplete operation when the tag is re-observed while it blocks inconsistent data accesses from other operations. We justify the proposed protocol by analyzing the completeness and consistency. The experiments show that the protocol shows better performance than the traditional lock-based concurrency control protocol.

  • One of RFID features is that each RFID tag has a unique identifying code. Logistic System utilizes RFID tag as location tracing, understanding stock or etc. On the other hand, there is a problem of overall lower recognition rate by getting the information of non-mobility tags with no need for reading. To solve this problem, we trace and analyze variation of moving and moveless RFID tag sensitivity by the hour. In analyzed data, we verify that tag sensitivity of mobile RFID is gradually increase while non-mobility tag has same intensity value. In order to detect mobile tag, we generate a function using Matlab with analyzed data and separate moving tags from non-mobility tags by software. As a result, we can confirm that non-mobility tags are detected by software and recognition rate of RFID tag is improved by separating moveless tag.

  • Countries around the world are actively investing in development and industrial application of RFID, a new wireless communications technology widely perceived as a next-generation growth engine with the potential for creation of new business value. In this paper, we empirically study factors influencing the acceptance of RFID by stage of introduction, to contribute making policies aimed at stimulating demand for this technology and accelerating its penetration. The process of acceptance of RFID was divided, in this paper, into three stages: perception, adoption and implementation, and influence factors, both Internal and external to an organization, drawn from existing literature, are analyzed. A conceptual model comprising internal influence factors, including technical, organization and economic factors, and external factors related to environment and this model was tested through structural equation analysis. To obtain data for empirical analysis, we surveyed public institutions and general companies that are potential users of RFID. The data thus collected were analyzed to determine factors influencing the acceptance of RFID by stage, and practical implications for the RFID promotion policy at the level of demand creation and industrial application were derived from the results of this analysis.

  • The Radio Frequency IDentification (RFID), once used widely, is expected to provide improved convenience in our everyday life. Crude observations of RFID consumption show that there is a wide variation in the adoption of this technology across different individuals. One plausible explanation is that consumers with challenging mind who seek for new technologies and have a good grasp of the new RFID technology should have higher propensity to use the technology. A better understanding of such acceptance pattern of RFID is of high importance in establishing technology providers' marketing strategies. This study is aimed to explain differences in the level of RFID acceptance focusing on cognitive styles of potential RFID users. By presenting potential RFID users' discriminative propensity toward RFID technology, this study hopes to provide guidelines for the design of service strategies that facilitate consumers' acceptance of RFID.

  • As one of core technologies in ubiquitous era, interest and application of RFID is increasing. Although its' applications has been developed in various areas, actual application rate is still underestimated. Previous studies show that most of researches are focused on RFID implementation strategies, emphasizing technical advantages and benefits of RFID. To increase RFID adoption rate, however, end user's attitude about information technology has to be considered. The empirical study has been conducted to analyze user's influential factors which affect the RFID adoption. The results show that some of user's attitude about IT are valid and provide useful guide lines about RFID adoption.

  • RFID is an emerging technology and rapidly applied to various industries due to its high-tech characteristic and convenience. Although RFID provides valuable benefits. it might also generate serious privacy problems. Previous studies show that privacy issues should be incorporated in developing RFID systems and more detailed privacy protection methods. However. they just provide basic concept, rough guideline. and simple architecture about RFID privacy protection. Industry needs more structured framework and detailed systematic process to incorporate privacy issues into the RFID system. The purpose of this paper is to develop a framework and detailed process design of RFID privacy protection issues in retail industries. A framework is developed based on individual sensitivity concept, RFID contents, and interface with EPC global standard. Case study is applied to validate the framework and it turns out to be useful. It is expected that the proposed framework and process design would provide more systematic guide lines to solving RFID privacy problems.

  • Over the past years RFID/SN has been an elementary technology in a diversity of applications for the ubiquitous environments, especially for Internet of Things. However, one of obstacles for widespread deployment of RFID technology is the inherent unreliability of the RFID data streams by tag readers. In particular, the problem of false readings such as lost readings and mistaken readings needs to be treated by RFID middleware systems because false readings ultimately degrade the quality of application services due to the dirty data delivered by middleware systems. As a result, for the higher quality of services, an RFID middleware system is responsible for intelligently dealing with false readings for the delivery of clean data to the applications in accordance with the tag reading environment. One of popular techniques used to compensate false readings is a sliding window filter. In a sliding window scheme, it is evident that determining optimal window size intelligently is a nontrivial important task in RFID middleware systems in order to reduce false readings, especially in mobile environments. In this paper, for the purpose of reducing false readings by intelligent window adaption, we propose a new adaptive RFID data cleaning scheme based on window sliding for a single tag. Unlike previous works based on a binomial sampling model, we introduce the weight averaging. Our insight starts from the need to differentiate the past readings and the current readings, since the more recent readings may indicate the more accurate tag transitions. Owing to weight averaging, our scheme is expected to dynamically adapt the window size in an efficient manner even for non-homogeneous reading patterns in mobile environments. In addition, we analyze reading patterns in the window and effects of decreased window so that a more accurate and efficient decision on window adaption can be made. With our scheme, we can expect to obtain the ultimate goal that RFID middleware systems can provide applications with more clean data so that they can ensure high quality of intended services.

  • In RFID-based cold-storage systems, product locations are recognized as the logical locations of RFID readers which are attached to the entrance of the cold rooms. However, through these methods, product locations can be incorrect in many different situations of a storage. Cold storage rooms have a huge rage in temperature, and the product in the cold-storage spoils easily. Therefore, highly precise product locations is very important for the product quality In this paper, a new approach is suggested to manage the storage location inaccuracy by adding two readers to existing forklift and attaching RFID tags to the ceiling. One reader recognizes ceiling tags to acquire location data, and the other recognizes product tags to acquire product detail data loaded on the forklift. The product can be seamlessly tracked and traced in realtime by monitoring and analyzing data gathered from these readers. Through the proposed location management method, the effectiveness of the product management in cold-storage can be improved consequently.

  • This paper sets a goal at developing an intelligent advertising system that displays only an advertisement in which interests passers by collecting their RFID information and analysing it in order to improve the defect of outdoor advertising boards which unilaterally advertise regardless of people's interest. For this purpose, we propose a RFID contents middleware which generates a meaningful event and streams an advertising content corresponding with the passers' interest after filtering and analysing the recognized RFID data. We implemented the RFID middleware with Sun Java RFID software and made an experiment by designing a RFID emulator. As a result of the experiment. we found that this system displays the advertisement according to the passers' information.

  • Owing to the proliferation of Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) technologies which is being watched as a core technology of ubiquitous computing, applications which offer convenience to people using RFID technologies are more and more increased. To easily develop these applications, a middleware system which acts as a bridge between RFID hardware and application is essential. In this paper, we propose a novel XML-based RFID middleware system called UbiCore (Ubiquitous Core). UbiCore has following features: First, UbiCore employs its own query language called XQueryStream (XQuery for Stream Data) which is originated from XQuery. Second, UbiCore has the preprocessing phase called pre-filtering prior to query evaluation and reuses the intermediate result of previous evaluation to speed up the processing of RFID tag data stream. Third, UbiCore supports query on both continuously generated stream data and archived historical data. And last, UbiCore offers a distinct markup language called Context-driven Service Markup Language (CSML) to easily specify the linking information between context and service.
