  • This paper proposes an authentication protocol based on hash and AES safe from various types of attacks in order to assure the security of communication between tags and readers, which exchange data with each other wirelessly in a RFID system. The proposed authentication protocol resolves a problem in existing hash-based protocols whereby the same hidden value is generated for the same identification in each session. In order to hide tag identification information a number of complicated calculations were required, but using the proposed AES protocol reduces such calculations, strengthens security against replay attack, spoofing attack, traffic analysis, eavesdropping, etc. and assure mutual authentication between tags and readers.

  • RFID systems provide technologies of automatic object identification through wireless communications in invisible ranges and adaptability against various circumstances. These advantages make RFID systems to be applied in various fields of industries and individual life. However, it is difficult to use tags with distinction as tags are increasingly used in life because a tag usually stores only one object identifier in common RFID applications. In addition, RFID systems often make serious violation of privacy caused by various attacks because of their weakness of radio frequency communication. Therefore, information sharing methods among applications are necessary for expansive development of RFID systems. In this paper, we propose efficient RFID scheme. At first, we design a new RFID tag structure which supports many object identifiers of different applications in a tag and allows those applications to access them simultaneously. Secondly, we propose an authentication protocol to support the proposed tag structure. The proposed protocol is designed by considering of robustness against various attacks in low cost RFID systems. Especially, the proposed protocol is focused on efficiency of authentication procedure by considering security levels of applications. In the proposed protocol, each application goes through one of different authentication procedures according to their security levels. Finally, we prove efficiency of th proposed scheme compared with the other schemes through experiments and evaluation.

  • Recently, Tan et al. introduced a serverless search protocol in which a mobile reader maintains a tag authentication list and authenticates a tag using the list without connecting authentication server. A serverless RFID system is different from general RFID systems which use on-line server models. In the serverless RFID system, since the mobility of a personalized reader must be considered, we have to protect not only the privacy of a tag but also the privacy of a mobile reader. In this paper, we define new security requirements for serverless RFID search system and propose a secure serverless RFID search system. In our system, since tag authentication information maintained by a reader is updated in every session, we can provide the backward untraceability of a mobile reader. Also we use an encrypted timestamp to block a replay attack which is major weakness of search protocols. In addition, we define a new adversary model to analyze a serverless RFID search system and prove the security of our proposed system using the model.

  • Recently, ubiquitous Computing is being actively researched and one of the main technology in ubiquitous computing environments is recognized as RFID system. The RFID system has much benefits but simultaneously has some problems such as user's privacy violation. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the privacy problems of previous methods and propose more secure and effective authentication method to protect user's privacy. The proposed protocol is secure against replay attack, spoofing attack and tracking by an attacker.

  • Recently, Radio Frequency Identification (RFID) systems stands in the spotlight of industry as a common and useful tool in manufacturing, supply chain management (SCM) and stock management. In the near future, low-cost RFID Electronic Product Code; (EPC) or smart-labels may be a practical replacement for optical barcodes on consumer items. However, manufacturing cheap and small RFID tags, and developing secure RFID authentication Protocols are problems which need to be solved. In spite of advances in semiconductor technology, computation and storage ability of the tag are so limited that it is difficult and too expensive to apply existing crypto-systems to RFID tags. Thus it is necessary to create a new protocol which would require less storage space and lower computation costs and that is secure in the RFID system's environments. In this paper, we propose a RFID authentication protocol that is secure against location tracking and spoofing attacks. Our protocol can be used as a practical solution for privacy protection because it requires less computations in database than the previous RFID authentication protocol.

  • A RFID system is a technology for detecting information on an object through wireless communication between a tag on the object and a reader, and its applications are being expanded to various areas. Because of its wireless communication, however, there are many vulnerabilities in security. Until now, many studies have been executed in order to solve problems related to the security and stability of RFID. In order to resolve vulnerabilities in existing security methods for privacy protection, this study proposed an authentication protocol that uses hash values received from tags and random numbers. When the proposed protocol was implemented, it was safe from various types of attacks between tag and reader and between reader and DB. Furthermore, compared to recently proposed protocols, it could implement a RFID system with enhanced security and less computation in tags.
