  • In this paper, we suggests a Ka-band LNB considering next-generation UHD satellite TVRO. Since Ka-band has grater attenuation than Ku-band in atmosphere, we designed the low-noise down-converter to improve receiving sensitivity and to extend a dynamic range of receiver. It aims to compensate a quality of ultra high definition transmission signal for rainfall. The low-noise block diagram consists of a three-staged amplifier (LNA), band-pass filter for deleting image (BPF), mixer and IF when considering nonlinear characteristics in the receiver RF front end module. Also, we showed a LNB through optimization processes affecting dynamic range directly in receiver FEM. Asa resuly of experiment, the gain of low-noise down-converter show between 58.5dB and 60.7dB, the noise figure has a high characteristic as 1.38dB. Finally, the phase noise of local oscillator is -63.10dBc at 100MHz offset frequency.

  • A novel method to reject the spurious signals which are occurred at Weaver-type low-IF transmitter was proposed in this paper. The spurious signals are generated by the gain and phase imbalances of I/Q channel or imperfect characteristics of 90$^{\circ}$ phase shifter in local oscillator for I/Q channel source. By deriving the gain and phase-based functions from RF spurious signal with the channel imbalance information, the lie channel imbalances were deduced as functions with magnitude and sign dependent on I/Q channel imbalance degree. The proposed method compensates the estimated I/Q channel imbalances by correlation values between the down-converted signal obtained by squaring the output signal itself using a simple mixer and the modified baseband signal. By comparing two signals after A/D conversion, the magnitude and sign of each type of imbalances can be determined separately and simultaneously. Based on the I/Q channel imbalance compensation, the spurious signals can be reduced by adjusting the gain and phase values of I or Q channel signal. The way to estimate the channel imbalances of the up-conversion mixer was presented and verified by using theoretical derivations and computer simulations.

  • In the OFDM system, IQ imbalance problem happens at the RF front-end of transceiver, which degrades the BER(bit error rate) performance because it affects the constellation in the received signal. Also, phase noise is generated in the local oscillator of transceivers and it destroys the orthogonality between the subcarriers. Conventional PNS algorithm is effective for phase noise suppression, but it is not useful anymore when there are jointly IQ(In-phase and Quadrature) imbalance and phase noise. Therefore, in this paper, we analyze the effect of IQ imbalance and phase noise generated in the down-conversion of the receiver. Then, we estimate and compensate the IQ imbalance and phase noise at the same time. Compared with the conventional method that IQ imbalance after IFFT is estimated and compensated in front of FFT via the feedback, this proposed method extracts and compensates effect of IQ imbalance after FFT stage. In case IQ imbalance and phase noise exist at the same time, we can decrease complexity because it is needless to use elimination of IQ imbalance in time domain and training sequences and preambles. Also, this method shows that it reduces the ICI and CPE component using adaptive forgetting factor of MMSE after FFT.
