We have demonstrated an amplified wavelength-division multiplexed (WDM) passive optical network (PON) by using broadband light source (BLS) seeded optical sources and chirped fiber Bragg gratings (FBGs) based dispersion compensators. Chirped FBGs located at central office (CO) were fabricated and used as channel-by-channel dispersion compensators in order to mitigate the dispersion-induced distortion of both downstream and upstream signals. Owing to a low insertion loss of chirped FBG based dispersion compensator, the optical signal-to-noise ratio (OSNR) of the downstream signal could be improved to be ~28 dB. Thus, we re-confirmed that an error-free transmission of 1.25 Gb/s signals over a 100 km single-mode fiber (SMF) link could be achieved with a proposed amplified WDM-PON architecture. We have also evaluated the impact of various noises on the system's performance, and found that the low OSNR of the downstream signal would be a main limiting factor on the maximum reach of the proposed amplified WDM-PON architecture. From the measured ~13 dB improvement in OSNR of the downstream signal compared to our previously-proposed dispersion compensating module based scheme, we believe that the proposed architecture can accommodate a reach of longer than 100 km SMF link easily.

An active anti-ship missile decoy system was designed conceptually to analyze propulsion system requirements and feasibility to use a liquid bi-propellant rocket engine. Overall mass, size, and shape were assumed referring to specifications of Nulka which was developed by US and Australia in 1990s. The propulsion system was assumed to be a 1,000 N-class $H_2O_2$/kerosene rocket engine with a pressurized feed system. A three-degree-of-freedom optimal trajectory was calculated based on the assumptions, and mass budget was designed from the calculation results. It was found that the requirements for the propulsion system is that it shall be operated more than 100 sec; it shall be re-ignitable; it shall have a throttle capability of a range from 35% to 100% when the maximum thrust at sea level is 1,000 N.

In order to obtain the fundamental data on the auditory thresholds of fishes for marine ranching, the auditory thresholds of black rock fish Sebastes Schlegeli were measured in the presence of masking noise in the spectrum level range of 73 - 83dB (0dB re $1{\mu}Pa/{\sqrt{Hz}}$) with a classical cardiac conditioning technique. Critical ratios were about 19 - 30dB at 80 - 300Hz and 46 - 54dB at 500 - 800Hz. The ratio increased almost linearly with increasing frequency to 500Hz. The noise spectrum level at the start of masking was about 70dB within the frequency range of 80 - 800Hz excepting 65dB at 300Hz. This suggests that hearing of the black rock fish is masked in the natural environment with the noise spectrum level above 65dB. The sound pressure level of which the signal sound of 100 - 200Hz is recognized by black rock fish under the ambient noise is above 90dB and the critical ratio of them is above 20dB.
Lead is one of the common non-ferrous metals used in modern industry. The usage of lead continues to increase and has risen from 5 million tonnes per year worldwide in the 1970s to 11 million tonnes in the 2010s. In principle lead is virtually 100 % recyclable as an element without loss of quality. The recycling of lead scrap reduces the energy consumption and environmental burden, comparing to the primary metal production. Therefore production of secondary lead from scrap has been steadily growing and at present it meets approximately 60 % of usage worldwide. Lead scrap (mainly lead-acid battery) is smelted in primary and secondary smelter. Most secondary lead smelting were performed in a shaft-type furnace (blast furnace), rotary furnace and reverberatory furnace. The lead bullion is either cast into ingots and re-melted in refining kettles or refining is performed on the hot lead bullion immediately after production. This work provides an overview of the primary lead production and recycling process.

The effects of pre-heat treatment(Q/T) on microstructure and hardness of STD11 and STD61 tool steel nitrided by micro-pulse plasma were investigated. The quenching temperature for obtaining matrix hardness of STD11 and STD61 steel on range of HRC 50 to HRC 60 desired for machine parts is about $1070^{\circ}C$ and $1020^{\circ}C$ respectively. The hardness of STD11 and STD61 quenched at the temperature was HRC 63 and HRC 56 respectively. The nitrided case depth of STD11 and STD61 nitrided at $550^{\circ}C$ for 5 hours was independent of pre-heat treatment condition and the depth was approximately $100{\mu}m$. However, hardness and compactness of nitrided layer on Q/T treated specimen were higher than the annealed specimen. The case depth increased linearly with the increase of nitriding temperature, however, the hardness of nitrided layer decreased with the increase of temperature. Phase mixture of ${\gamma}-Fe_4N$ and ${\varepsilon}-Fe_{2-3}N$ was detected by XRD analysis in the nitrided layer formed at the optimum nitriding condition. The optimum nitriding temperature was approximately $490^{\circ}C$ which was $10^{\circ}C$ lower than the tempering temperature for preventing softening behavior of STD11 and STD61 matrix during nitriding process and the surface hardness of nitrided layer obtained by optimum pre-heat treatment condition was about Hv1400.

[ $CeO_2$ ]has been widely used for single buffer layer of coated conductor because of superior chemical and structural compatibility with $ReBa_2Cu_3O_{7-{\delta}}$(Re=Y, Nd, Sm, Gd, Dy, Ho, etc.). But, the surface of $CeO_2$ layer showed cracks because of the large difference in thermal expansion coefficient between metal substrate and deposited $CeO_2$ layer, when thickness of $CeO_2$ layer exceeds 100 nm on the biaxially textured Ni-3%W substrate. The deposition rate has been limited to be less than 6 $\AA$/sec in order to get a good epitaxy. In this research, we deposited $CeO_2$ single buffer layers on biaxially textured Ni-3%W substrate with 2-step process such as thin nucleation layer(>10 nm) with low deposition rate(3 $\AA$/sec) and thick homo epitaxial layer(>240 nm) with high deposition rate(30 $\AA$/sec). Effect of deposition temperature on degree of texture development was tested. Thick homo epitaxial $CeO_2$ layer with good texture without crack was obtained at $600^{\circ}C$, which has ${\Delta}{\phi}$ value of $6.2^{\circ}$, ${\Delta}{\omega}$ value of $4.3^{\circ}$ and average surface roughness(Ra) of 7.2 nm within $10{\mu}m{\times}10{\mu}m$ area. This result shows the possibility of preparing advanced Ni substrate with simplified architecture of single $CeO_2$ layer for low cost coated conductor.
Unconventional resources are natural resources which require greater than industry-standard levels of technology or investment to exploit the commercial development. The key point is that unconventional resources are lower quality fuel sources and are not as economically viable as crude oil and conventional gas. Over the past 100 years, Conventional oil and gas has been satisfied with the energy demands. But developing countries such as China and India, the introduction of the developed countries and the surge of energy due to the depletion of unconventional energy resources will be the limelight. According to be analyzed in the academic literature to unconventional gas and oil(2000~2012) by the program of 'web of science', the research activities 402 papers in unconventional gas and 1,581 papers in unconventional oil.

In this paper, we have proposed a modified Marker-And-Cell (MAC) method to investigate the problem of an unsteady 2-D incompressible flow with heat and mass transfer at low, moderate, and high Reynolds numbers with no-slip and slip boundary conditions. We have used this method to solve the governing equations along with the boundary conditions and thereby to compute the flow variables, viz. u-velocity, v-velocity, P, T, and C. We have used the staggered grid approach of this method to discretize the governing equations of the problem. A modified MAC algorithm was proposed and used to compute the numerical solutions of the flow variables for Reynolds numbers Re = 10, 500, and 50000 in consonance with low, moderate, and high Reynolds numbers. We have also used appropriate Prandtl (Pr) and Schmidt (Sc) numbers in consistence with relevancy of the physical problem considered. We have executed this modified MAC algorithm with the aid of a computer program developed and run in C compiler. We have also computed numerical solutions of local Nusselt (Nu) and Sherwood (Sh) numbers along the horizontal line through the geometric center at low, moderate, and high Reynolds numbers for fixed Pr = 6.62 and Sc = 340 for two grid systems at time t = 0.0001s. Our numerical solutions for u and v velocities along the vertical and horizontal line through the geometric center of the square cavity for Re = 100 has been compared with benchmark solutions available in the literature and it has been found that they are in good agreement. The present numerical results indicate that, as we move along the horizontal line through the geometric center of the domain, we observed that, the heat and mass transfer decreases up to the geometric center. It, then, increases symmetrically.
The present study describes the preliminary evaluation of the antioxidant activities and the neuroprotective effect of methanolic extracts from Psoralea corylifolia Linne (PCE). The antioxidant activities and neuroprotective effect of the PCE were evaluated by total phenolic contents (TPC), DPPH radical scavenging activity (RSA), reducing power (RP), MTT reduction assay, and LDH release assay. TPC, DPPH RSA, and RP of the extract at concentration of 100 ${\mu}g$ was 125.93 ${\mu}g$, 63.81%, 0.138, respectively, and those were concentration dependent. The treatment of PC12 and N18-RE-105 cells with various PCE concentrations under $H_2O_2$ resulted in the induction of protective effect in a dose-dependent manner, as determined by the results of an MTT reduction assay and LDH release assay. Therefore, these results suggest that PCE could be a new potential candidate as an antioxidant against neuronal diseases.
