Infill wall strengthening method has been widely used for seismic strengthening of deteriorated reinforced concrete (RC) frame structures with non-seismic details. Although such infill wall method can ensure sufficient lateral strengths of RC frame structures deteriorated in seismic performances with a low constructional cost, it generally requires quite cumbersome construction works due to its complex connection details between an infill wall and existing RC frame. In this study, an advanced seismic strengthening method using externally-anchored precast wall panels (EPCW) was developed to overcome the disadvantage inherent in the existing infill wall strengthening method. A total of four RC frame specimens were carefully designed and fabricated. Cyclic loading tests were then conducted to examine seismic performances of RC frame specimens strengthened using the EPCW method. Two specimens were fully strengthened using stocky precast wall panels with different connection details while one specimen was strengthened only in column perimeter with slender precast wall panels. Test results showed that the strength, stiffness, and energy dissipation capacity of RC frame specimens strengthened by EPCWs were improved compared to control frame specimens without strengthening.

In this paper, the effect of the masonry infill walls on the seismic performance of the reinforced concrete(RC) frames with non-seismic details was evaluated through the static test of an masonry infilled RC frame sub-assemblage with non-seismic details of real size, and comparison with the test results of the RC frame sub-assemblage with non-seismic details. As the test results, lots of cracks occurred on the surface of the entire frame due to the compression of the masonry infilled wall, and the beam-column joint finally collapsed with the expansion of the shear crack and buckling(exposure) of the reinforcement. On the other hand, the stiffness of the shear force-story drift relationship decreased due to the wall sliding crack and column flexural cracks, and the strength finally decreased by around 60% of the maximum strength. The damage that concentrated on the upper and lower parts of columns was dispersed in the entire frame such as columns, a beam, and beam-column joints due to the wall, and the specimen was finally collapsed by expansion of the shear crack of the joint, not the shear crack of the column. Also, the stiffness of RC frame increased by 12.42 times and the yield strength by 3.63 times, while the story drift at maximum strength decreased by 0.18 times.

This study investigates the seismic performance of new hollow reinforced concrete (RC) bridge piers with triangular reinforcement details. The developed triangular reinforcement details are economically feasible and rational, and facilitate shorter construction periods. We tested a model of new hollow RC bridge piers with triangular reinforcement details under a constant axial load and a quasi-static, cyclically reversed horizontal load. We used a computer program, Reinforced Concrete Analysis in Higher Evaluation System Technology (RCAHEST), for analysis of RC structures. The used numerical method gives a realistic prediction of seismic performance throughout the loading cycles for several hollow pier specimens investigated. As a result, developed triangular reinforcement details for material quantity reduction was equal to existing reinforcement details in terms of required performance.

The collapse of reinforced concrete (RC) frame buildings is mainly caused by the failure of columns. To prevent brittle failure of RC column, numerous studies have been conducted on the seismic performance of strengthened RC columns. Concrete jacketing method, which is one of the retrofitting method of RC members, can enhance strength and stiffness of original RC column with enlarged section and provide uniformly distributed lateral load capacity throughout the structure. The experimental studies have been conducted by many researchers to analyze seismic performance of seismic strengthened RC column. However, structures which have plan and vertical irregularities shows torsional behavior, and therefore it causes large deformation on RC column when subjected to seismic load. Thus, test results from concentric cyclic loading can be overestimated comparing to eccentric cyclic test results, In this paper, two kinds of eccentric loading pattern was suggested to analyze structural performance of RC columns, which are strengthened by concrete jacketing method with new details in jacketed section. Based on the results, it is concluded that specimens strengthened with new concrete jacketing method increased 830% of maximum load, 150% of maximum displacement and changed the failure modes of non-strengthened RC columns.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the seismic performance of hollow RC bridge columns with reinforcement details for material quantity reduction. The proposed reinforcement details provide economy, are rational and shorthen the construction periods. The accuracy and objectivity of the assessment process can be enhanced by using a sophisticated nonlinear finite element analysis program. Solution of the equations of motion is obtained by numerical integration using Hilber-Hughes-Taylor (HHT) algorithm. The adopted numerical method gives a realistic prediction of seismic performance throughout the input ground motions for several test specimens investigated. As a result, the proposed reinforcement details for material quantity reduction develop equal performance to that required for existing reinforcement details.

This study proposed a seismic reinforcement of RC columns with non-seismic details, a fiber reinforcement method of aramid sheets and MLCP (high elasticity aromatic polyester fiber material) with different characteristics, and 4 full-size column specimens and conducted experiments. The results show that a non-seismic specimen (RC-Orig) rapidly lost its load-bearing capacity after reaching the maximum load, and shear failure occurred. The RC column reinforced with three types of aramid did not show an apparent increase in strength compared to the unreinforced specimen but showed a ductile behavior supporting the load while receiving a lateral displacement at least 1.57 to 1.95 times higher than the unreinforced specimen. The fracture mode of the specimen, according to the application of lateral load, also changed from shear to ductile fracture through aramid-based reinforcement. In addition, when examining the energy dissipation ability of the reinforced specimens, a ductile behavior dissipating seismic energy performed 4 times greater and more stably than the existing specimens.

This paper presents experimental and numerical studies of seismic performance on reinforced concrete (RC) wide beam (WB) joints. Two RC-WB joint specimens and one conventional RC joint specimen were fabricated using the reinforcing details of longitudinal reinforcing bars in a beam as a variable, and quasi-static cyclic loading tests were performed. The results were used to compare and analyze the load-drift ratio relationship, failure mode, and seismic performance of the specimens quantitatively. In addition, a finite element (FE) analysis of the RC-WB joint was conducted, and the rationality of the FE model was validated by comparing it with the test results. Based on the FE model, a parametric study was conducted, where the ratio of longitudinal reinforcing bars placed on the outer and inner parts of the joint (𝜌ex/𝜌in) was a key variable. The results showed that, in the RC-WB joint, an increase of 𝜌ex/𝜌in leads to more severe damage to concrete, which reduces the seismic performance of the RC-WB joints.

The objective of this study is to clarify the seismic capacity and the characteristics in the hysteretic behavior of RC structures with non-seismic detailing. Interior and exterior beam-column subassemblages were selected from a ten-story RC building and six 1/3-scale specimens were constructed with three variables; (1) with and without slab, (2) with and without hoop bars in the Joint region, (3) upward and downward direction of anchorage for the bottom bar in beams of exterior beam-column subassemblage. The test results have shown; (1) in case of interior beam-column subassemblage, there is no almost difference between nonseismic and seismic details in the strength and ductility capacity; (2) the Korean practice of anchorage (downward and 25 $d_{b}$ anchorage length) in the exterior Joint caused the 10%~20% reduction of strength and 27% reduction of ductility iii comparison with tile case of seismic details; and the existence of hoop bars in the joint region shows no effect in shear strain.n.

This paper deals with shaking table tests on RC piers to evaluate the seismic performance under near fault motion. Small scale models were fabricated and axial force was applied by introducing prestress at the centroid of the column section. Mass effect of the superstructures was simulated by mass frame which was linked with a pier model by steel bars because of the limited payload of shaking table. Friction of the mass frame when it moves was minimized by special details and it was proved before tests. Scale factor of the RC piers was 4.25. Main parameters of the test were details of reinforcements. After verifying the results of shaking table tests, seismic performance was evaluated by increasing the acceleration of the near fault motion.
