This study investigates the optimum section properties of newly developed steel-concrete composite beam. For that purpose we developed computer program calculating section properties. The suggested new beam section highly contribute to save inter-story height and reduce construction duration and cost compared with conventional steel works such as H-beam and column + RC slab system. But the section shape have different section modulus with upper and lower fiber because of the unsymmetric cross section. Therefore the parametric study on thickness-ratio of top and bottom flange plate is needed. In this paper the change of neutral axis and section modulus for thickness-ratio of up and down flage plate is analysed and discussed.

A study for the nonlinear analysis method of RC(Reinforced Concrete) beams with unbonded prestressing CFRP plate is presented. The cross-section of RC beam element is idealized as an assemblage of concrete and reinforcing steel fibers in order to account for varied material properties within the cross-section of the element. The unbonded CFRP plate is modeled as a series of the CFRP plate segments each of which is linked to the RC beam element, but slips without any resistance to simulate the unbonded behavior of the CFRP plate. The stress of each CFRP plate segment is redistributed iteratively using the force equilibrium relationship at each common node until it reaches at the same stress level. To evaluate the validity of the proposed analysis method, the results of ultimate analysis of the reinforced concrete beams with unbonded prestressing CFRP plates are compared with the experimental results obtained from other investigators. The proposed analysis method is found to predict ultimate behaviors of these beams fairly well.

The square tubed-reinforced concrete (TRC) column is a kind of special concrete-filled steel tube (CFST) columns, in which the outer thin-walled steel tube does not pass through the beam-column joint, so that the longitudinal steel reinforcing bars in the RC beam are continuous through the connection zone. However, there is a possible decrease of the axial bearing capacity at the TRC column to RC beam connection due to the discontinuity of the column tube, which is a concern to engineers. 24 connections and 7 square TRC columns were tested under axial compression. The primary parameters considered in the tests are: (1) connection location (corner, exterior and interior); (2) dimensions of RC beam cross section; (3) RC beam type (with or without horizontal haunches); (4) tube type (with or without stiffening ribs). The test results show that all specimens have relatively high load-carrying capacity and satisfactory ductility. With a proper design, the connections exhibit higher axial resistance and better ductility performance than the TRC column. The feasibility of this type of connections is verified.
It has been known that debonding failures between CFS(Carbon Fiber Sheet) and concrete in the strengthened RC beams are initiated by the peeling of the sheets in the region of combined large moment and shear forces, being accompanied by the large shear deformation after flexural cracks. These shear deformation effects are seldom occurred in small-scale model tests, but debondings due to the large shear deformation effects are often observed in a full-scale model tests. The premature debonding failure of CFS, therefore, must be avoided to confirm the design strength of full-scale RC beam in strengthening designs. The reinforcing details, so- called 'U-Shape fiber wrap at mid-span' which wrapped the RC flexural members around the webs and tension face at critical section with CFS additionally, were proposed in this study to prevent the debonding of CFS. Other reinforcing detail, so called 'U-Shape fiber wrap at beam end' were included in this tests and comparisons were made between them.

In this study, to predict the behavior of RC beam strengthened with Carbon fiber reinforced polymer(CFRP) plate, analytical program considering material non-linearity is developed. Strain compatibility and force equilibrium are applied and internal forces of constitutive material are calculated using nonlinear stress-strain relationship. Also, to certainty the reliability of analytical program, deflection, strain of CFRP plate, change of neutral axis on cross section and crack distribution at failure are compared with those of experiment, and each results are almost coincident.

Beam-column joints are recognized as the weak points of reinforcement concrete frames. The ductility of reinforced concrete (RC) frames during severe earthquakes can be measured through the dissipation of large energy in beam-column joint. Retrofitting and rehabilitating structures through proper methods, such as carbon fiber reinforced polymer (CFRP), are required to prevent casualties that result from the collapse of earthquake-damaged structures. The main challenge of this issue is identifying the effect of CFRP on the occurrence of failure in the joint of a cross section with normal ductility. The present study evaluates the retrofitting method for a normal ductile beam-column joint using CFRP under monotonic and cyclic loads. Thus, the finite element model of a cross section with normal ductility and made of RC is developed, and CFRP is used to retrofit the joints. This study considers three beam-column joints: one with partial CFRP wrapping, one with full CFRP wrapping, and one with normal ductility. The two cases with partial and full CFRP wrapping in the beam-column joints are used to determine the effect of retrofitting with CFRP wrapping sheets on the behavior of the beam-column joint confined by such sheets. All the models are subjected to monotonic and cyclic loading. The final capacity and hysteretic results of the dynamic analysis are investigated. A comparison of the dissipation energy graphs of the three connections shows significant enhancement in the models with partial and full CFRP wrapping. An analysis of the load-displacement curves indicates that the stiffness of the specimens is enhanced by CFRP sheets. However, the models with both partial and full CFRP wrapping exhibited no considerable improvement in terms of energy dissipation and stiffness.

It is difficult for existing beams to ensure the sufficient embedding depth due to constructional cause. Owing to these problems, currently FRP-Rod embedding repair method run parallel with a section increasing method in many case. In this study, anchor pin was adopted to solving the problems of the sliding of FRP-Rod and the unified behaviors of the repaired beam without increasing the section. In the experiments, split failure of covering concrete and slippage of the FRP-Rod were not occurred. it was confirmed that FRP-Rod shown the integrate behaviors with RC beam till the repaired beams destroyed.

For the purpose of optimum design of RC frame structures. pre-determined section database of column and beam are constructed and arranged in order of the resisting capacity. Then, regression equations representing the relation between section number and resisting capacity are derived. In advance. effective optimization algorithms which search optimized solution quickly using direct search method from these database are proposed. Moreover. the investigation for the applicability and effectiveness of the introduced design procedure is conducted through correlation study for example structures.
The purpose of this study is to propose an analytical model for the simulation of the hysteretic behavior of RC (reinforced concrete) beam-column subassemblages under various loading histories. The discrete line element with inelastic rotational springs is adopted to model the different locations of the plastic hinging zone. The hysteresis model can be adopted for a dynamic two-dimensional inelastic analysis of RC frame structures. From the analysis of test results it is found that the stiffness deterioration caused by inelastic loading can be simulated with a function of basic pinching coefficients, ductility ratio and yield strength ratio of members. A new strength degradation coefficient is proposed to simulate the inelastic behavior of members as a function of the transverse steel spacing and section aspect ratio. The energy dissipation capacities calculated using the proposed model show a good agreement with test results within errors of 27%.
The goal of this study is to show the way to increase the safety of deteriorated PSC beam bridges by the to-box reinforcing method. This method is to change the open girder section into the closed box section by connecting bottom flanges of neighboring PSC girders with the precast panels embedding PS tendons at the anchor block. The box section is composed of three concrete members with different casting ages, RC slab, PSC beam, precast panel. This different aging requires a time-dependent analysis considering construction sequences. Reliability index and failure probability are produced by the AFOSM reliability analysis. Transversely five schemes and longitudinally two schemes are considered. The full reinforcing scheme, transversely and longitudinally, shows the highest reliability index, but it requires more cost for retrofit. The partial reinforcing scheme 4, 4-1 are recommended in this study as the economically best scheme.
