Rates of solvolyses of 4-nitrophenyl phenyl thiophosphorochloridate (4-N$O_2$PhOP(S)(Cl)OPh, $\underline{1}$) in ethanol, methanol, and aqueous binary mixtures incorporating ethanol, methanol, acetone, and 2,2,2-trifluroethanol (TFE) are reported. Thermodynamic parameters were determined at several temperatures in three representative solvents. The extended Grunwald-Winstein equation was applied to 29 solvents and the correlation coefficient (R) showed 0.959. The sensitivities (l = 1.37 and m = 0.62) are similar to those obtained for diphenyl thiophosphorochloridate (($PhO)_2$PSCl, $\underline{2}$), diphenyl phosphorochloridate (($PhO)_2$POCl, $\underline{3}$), diphenyl phosphinic chloride ($Ph_2$POCl, $\underline{4}$), and diphenyl thiophosphinic chloride ($Ph_2$PSCl, $\underline{5}$). The solvolytic reaction mechanism of 4-nitrophenyl phenyl thiophosphorochloridate ($\underline{1}$) is suggested to be proceeded a $S_N$2 process as previously reported result. The activation enthalpies are shown as slightly low as ${\Delta}H^{\neq}\;=\;9.62\;to\;11.9\;kcal{\cdot}mol^{-1}$ and the activation entropies are shown as slightly high negative value as ${\Delta}S^{\neq}\;=\;-34.1\;to\;-44.9\;cal{\cdot}mol^{-1}{\cdot}K^{-1}$ compared to the expected $S_N$2 reaction mechanism. Kinetic solvent isotope effects are accord with a typical $S_N$2 mechanism as shown in the range of 2.41 in MeOH/ MeOD and 2.57 in $H_2O/D_2O$ solvent mixtures.
Objective: The objectives of this study were to determine the in situ degradation parameters and appropriate feeding level of pineapple cannery by-products (PCB) based on the growth performance and blood parameters of growing Hanwoo (Bos taurus coreanae) steers fed various levels of PCB. Methods: Two ruminally cannulated Holstein cows were used for in situ disappearance rate measurements. Nylon bags (5×10 cm, 45 ㎛ pore size) filled with 5 g of PCB in triplicate were inserted into the ventral sac of the two cannulated Holsteins cows and incubated for 0, 2, 4, 8, 16, 24, and 48 h. A total of 16 castrated growing Hanwoo steers (12.5±0.5 months old, 302.9±25.7 kg of initial body weight [BW]) were used for the experiment. Animals were stratified by initial BW and then randomly assigned to one of four experimental diets (0%, 1.5%, 3.0%, or 6.0% of PCB, on the dry matter [DM] basis) fed for 91-d, including 30-d of adaptation. Results: Soluble fraction a of DM and crude protein (CP) was 61.9% and 86.0%, fraction b of DM and CP was 32.7% and 11.2%, and indigestible fraction c of DM and CP was 5.4% and 2.8%. The 6.0% PCB feeding group showed lower productivity compared to animals in the other treatments. Increasing the dietary level of PCB did not alter DM intake, but it was numerically lowest in the 6.0% feeding group. The gain to feed ratio was linearly decreased by increasing of PCB. The quadratic broken-line test estimated that 2.5% (DM basis) was the maximum feeding level of PCB in growing Hanwoo steers (y = 0.103 - 0.001×[1.245-x]2, R2 = 0.18). Conclusion: Diets containing up to 2.5% PCB can be fed to growing Hanwoo steers without adverse effects on growth performance.
Flow-through aquaculture systems generate large amounts of wastewater containing compounds such as solids that can settle near aquafarms and cause eutrophication. The settled solids are often reintroduced into flow-through systems, and aquatic animals can be affected by the solids and pathogens associated with these solids. For a sustainable aquaculture operation, adequate wastewater treatment is required. Hydrocyclones are one of the most promising technologies for the removal of solids in aquaculture wastewater. In this study, a model for performance prediction of hydrocyclones was investigated under three different operating conditions: water temperature, solids concentration, and water inlet velocity. The synthetic solids solution was prepared using settled solids from abalone aquaculture farms. The daily solids removal rates of the tested hydrocyclones ranged from 0.18 to 26.0 g solids-m-3-day-1, and removal efficiency ranged from 5.1 to 34.4%. The inlet water velocity had the greatest effect on solids removal and hydrocyclone efficiencies. The following multiregression model equation was derived from the daily solids removal rate (g solids-m-3-day-1) results for water temperature (T, ℃), solids concentration (SS, mg-L-1), and tangential inlet water velocity (TIV, m-sec-1): daily solids removal rate: f(z)=4.465+0.809TIV-0.375T+0.217SS (r2=0.976).
This study was conducted to investigate influences of solifluction and sediment runoff on the stream water qualities during the spring season. The study sites were four points in the northeastern area of the Bukhansan National Park. And, field surveys were carried out in the spring of 1999, 2000 and 2001. The results of this study were summarized as follows; During the investigation period, the amounts of sediment caused by solifluction on stream side slopes in the downstream were 1.3~1.7 times as large as those in the upstream. The pH of sediment caused by solifluction was a potential influence on the pH of stream water. Amounts of dissolved $Cl^-$, $NO_3{^-}$ and $SO{_4}^{2-}$ in stream water were proportion to the average amounts of $Cl^-$, $NO_3{^-}$ and $SO{_4}^{2-}$ in the sediment caused by solifluction. In the spring, the average pH of stream water was lower than the first class of the river water quality standard because of increasing chemical concentration as well as the contents of anions($Cl^-$, $NO_3{^-}$ and $SO{_4}^{2-}$) in the spring season. Also, the average electrical conductivity of water in downstream was about 2.3-3.3 times higher than that in upstream. The amounts of anions($Cl^-$, $NO_3{^-}$ and $SO{_4}^{2-}$) of water in downstream were about 1.2~7.4, 1.1~3.9, 1.1~1.4 times higher than those in upstream, respectively. Therefore, these results showed that the water quality of downstream was worse than that of upstream. As a result of regression analyses, the linear and exponential equation of pH and water quantity was pH = 1.7926 ${\times}$ stream water quantity + 5.9577($R^2=0.46$), and those of electrical conductivity and water quantity was $EC=34.417e^{3.6334{\times}\text{stream water quantity}(m^3/sec)}$ ($R^2=0.44$).

The routine analysis of milk chemical components is of major importance both for the management of animals in dairy farms and for quality control in dairy industries. NIRS technology is an analytical technique which greatly simplifies this routine. One of the most critical aspects in NIRS analysis of milk is sample preparation and analysis modes which should be fast and straightforward. An important difficulty when obtaining NIR spectra of milk is the high water content (80 to 90%) of this product, since water absorbs most of the infrared radiation, and, therefore, limits the accuracy of calibrating for other constituents. To avoid this problem, the DESIR system was set up. Other ways of radiation-sample interaction adapted for liquids or semi-liquids exist, which are practically instantaneous and with limited or null necessity of sample preparation: Transmission and Folded Transmission or Transflectance. The objective of the present work is to compare the precision and accuracy of milk calibration equations in two analysis modes: Reflectance (dry milk) and Folded Transmission (liquid milk). A FOSS-NIR Systems 6500 I spectrophotometer (400-2500 nm) provided with a spinning module was used. Two NIR spectroscopic methods for milk analysis were compared: a) folded transmission: liquid milk samples in a 0.1 pathlength sample cell (ref. IH-0345) and b) reflectance: dried milk samples in glass fibre filters placed in a standard ring cell. A set of 101 milk samples was used to develop the calibration equations, for the two NIR analysis modes, to predict casein, protein, fat and dry matter contents, and 48 milk samples to predict Somatic Cell Count (SCC). The calibrations obtained for protein, fat and dry matter have an excellent quantitative prediction power, since they present $r^2$ values higher than 0.9. The $r^2$ values are slightly lower for casein and SCC (0.88 and 0.89 respectively), but they still are sufficiently high. The accuracy of casein, protein and SCC equations is not affected by the analysis modes, since their ETVC values are very similar in reflectance and folded transmission (0.19% vs 0.21%; 0.16% vs 0.19% and 55.57% vs 53.11% respectively), Lower SECV values were obtained for the prediction of fat and dry matter with the folded transmission equations (0.14% and 0.25% respectively) compared to the results with the reflectance ones (0.43% and 0.34% respectively). In terms of accuracy and speed of analytical response, NIRS analysis of liquid milk is recommended (folded transmission), since the drying procedure takes 24 hours. However, both analysis modes offer satisfactory results.
The purpose of this study was to determine the optimum ethanol extraction conditions for maximum extraction of functional components such as ferulic acid, oryzanol, and toopherol from black rice bran using Response Surface Methodology (RSM). A central composite design was applied to investigate the effects of the independent variables of solvent ratio ($X_{1}$), extraction temperature ($X_{2}$) and extraction time ($X_{3}$) on the dependent variables such as total phenol components ($Y_{1}$), total flavonoids compounds ($Y_{2}$), electron donating ability ($Y_{3}$), $\gamma$-oryzanol ($Y_{4}$), ferulic acid ($Y_{5}$) and $\alpha$-toopherol components ($Y_{6}$). ANOVA results showed that coefficients of determination (R-square) of estimated models for dependent variables ranged from 0.8939 to 0.9470. It was found that solvent ratio and extraction temperature were the main effective factors in this extraction proess. Particularly, the extraction efficiency of ferulic acid, $\gamma$-oryzanol and $\alpha$-toopherol components were significantly affected by extraction temperature. As a result, optimum extraction conditions were 20.35 mL/g of solvent ratio, 79.4$^{\circ}C$ of extraction temperature and 2.88 hr of extraction time. Predicted values at the optimized conditions were acceptable when compared with experimental values.

Wild yeasts were isolated from domestic non-sterilized Makgeolli and their fermentation characteristics were analyzed to select the best fermentation seed culture. A total of 65 yeast strains isolated yeasts from non-sterilized Makgeolli and Nuruk. In order to select fermentable strains, hydrogen sulfide, $CO_2$ production ability, alcohol tolerance and aroma component production ability were analyzed. To screen the aromatic strains of isolates, media containing cerulenin, 5,5,5-trifluor-DL-leucine (TFL) and API ZYM kit were used. There were 36 strains resistance to cerulenin and all strains produced esterase and demonstrated tolerance against TFL. Hydrogen sulfide, which could degrade the quality of the fermented beverage, was not produced in 34 yeast. The correlation between alcohol tolerance of yeast and carbon dioxide production was analyzed by principal component analysis. YM22, YM31, YM32 and YM37 produced a total of 0.14-0.18 g/72 h of $CO_2$ indicating high fermentability. Alcohol tolerance was measured by alcohol concentration. YM32, YM37 yeast had 20% alcohol tolerance. As a result, alcohol and flavor characteristics of wild yeast isolated from non-sterilized Makgeolli were analyzed and it was confirmed that yeast was suitable for the production of alcohol.
This study estimated the re!ation between psychological stress and stress hormones, nut tritional status of patients with non-insulin dependent diabetes mellitus(NIDDM). Psychol logical stress such as depr'ession and anxiety in 34 diabetics was analyzedin relation to nutrient intake, blood components such as fasting blood sugar(FBS), hemoglobin AIC, stress hormones a and amino acids. The IeveIs of depression and anxiety were measured by The center for epi idemiological studies-depc$pm$111.49pg/ml for total catecholamine ( (norepmephrine and epinephrine) and 233.95 $pm$73.99pg/ml for norepinephrine, 94.03$pm$75. 9 97pg/ml for epinephrine, 13.lS$pm$5.55pl/dl for cortisol and 171.50$pm$62.50pg/ml for gul c cagon respectlveIy. The leveIs of stress hormones in diabetics such as total catecholamine, norepi mephrine cortisol and glucagon were significantly higher than those in normal control. The level of epmephrine was higher in diabetics but the diffierenee was not significant. The calorie m t take in diabetics was 1762$pm$292keal which is S1.4% lower than Korean recommended dietary a allowances(RDA). Calcium intake was slightly low but other nutrients intakeswere higher than R RDA. The value of fasting blood sugar(FBS), usual fasting blood sugar(usual FBS) which refteet a average FBS during 3 months and hemoglobin Al C in diabetics was 1S4.1S$pm$74.22mg/dl, 177.76$pm$42.77mg/dl and S.S4$pm$2.S2% respec디VeIy. In this study, samples were collected from the leaves and stems of healthy wild Pistachio trees (Pistacia atlantica L.) from various locations of Baneh and Marivan regions, Iran. In total, 61 endophytic bacteria were isolated and grouped according to phenotypic properties. Ten selected isolates from each group were further identified by partial sequencing of the 16S rRNA gene. Based on the results, isolates were identified as bacteria belonging to Pseudomonas, Stenotrophomonas, Bacillus, Pantoea and Serratia genus. The ability of these isolates was evaluated to phytohormone production such as auxin and gibberellin, siderophore production, phosphate solubilization, atmospheric nitrogen fixation, protease and hydrogen cyanide production. All strains were able to produce the plant growth hormone auxin and gibberellin in different amounts. The majority of strains were able to solubilize phosphate. The results of atmospheric nitrogen fixation ability, protease and siderophore production were varied among strains. Only Ba66 could produce a low amount of hydrogen cyanide. The results of biocontrol assay showed that Pb78 and Sp15 strains had the highest and lowest inhibition effects on bacterial plant pathogens, Pseudomonas syringae pv. syringae Pss20 and Pseudomonas tolaasii Pt18 under in vitro condition. Pb3, Pb24 and Pb71 strains significantly promote root formation on carrot slices. To our knowledge this is the first report of the isolation of endophytic bacterial strains belonging to Pantoea, Bacillus, Pseudomonas, Serratia and Stenotrophomonas genus from wild pistachio trees with plant growth promoting potential and biocontrol activity.
Pedigree data were used to predict the performance of 1,166 imported Americas Brahman breeder cattle, composed of 104 bulls and 1,062 heifers with an average age of 24.4 months (range of 17 to 40 months). A total of 13 full sib, 10 maternal half sib, and 228 paternal half sib groups were identified, each with average group size of 2.08, 2.00, and 4.49, respectively. Only 758 (64.9% of total) imported cattle were found to have at least one ancestor with expected progeny differences (EPDs) reported in the Spring 1995 Brahman Sire Summary. Moderate average accuracy values of .71, .69, .52, and .52 for birth weight, weaning weight, yearling weight, and maternal milk, respectively, were noted for EPDs of the ancestors. Prediction equations were derived by multiple regression analysis of available EPDs of sire, paternal grand sire, and maternal grand sire. Based on pedigree indexes that involve various combinations of available ancestral information, the average predicted EPDs (lbs) for imported cattle were $1.76{\pm}0.54$, $14.93{\pm}4.86$, $25.10{\pm}9.50$, and $5.86{\pm}2.08$ for birth weight, weaning weight, yearling weight, and maternal milk, respectively. Significant correlations (p < .05) were also found between sire and son EPDs (+.27) for yearling weight; and between sire and paternal grand sire EPDs for birth weight (+.34), weaning weight (+.51), yearling weight (+.49), and maternal milk (+.55).
