The tensile and fracture toughness tests have been conducted to investigate the degradations of mechanical properties induced mainly by neutron irradiations in Zr-2.5Nb CANDU pressure tube materials operated in Wolsung Unit-1. the tests were performed at room, 150, 200, 250, 300 $\^{C}$ for the irradiated and unirradiated specimens in hot cell. The specimens were directly machined from the tube retaining original curvature using specially designed electric discharge machine(EDM). From the tensile tests of the irradiated specimens, it was found that tensile strength was increased and total elongation was decreased compared to those of the unirradiated ones. The active voltages in the fracture toughness tests for the irradiated showed the discontinuous abrupt increases caused by crack jumping in lower temperature. In the crack resistance curves we found the stable crack growth in the unirradiated, whereas the unstable and three crack growth stages in the irradiated specimens due to the accumulated irradiation defects. The various fracture characteristic values in the irradiated are remarkably lower than those of the unirradiated. Through the fractography, we found in the irradiated that smaller dimple and shorter fissures than the unirradiated, and that the fractured surface had three regions that were flat, transition and slant/shear area. These can explain the difference in the crack growth characteristic values of the irradiated and the unirradiated ones.
In this paper, fatigue tests were carried out at stress test levels of 461 MPa, 441 MPa, and 431 MPa by using smooth specimen of$2_{1/4}$ Cr-1 Mo steel with the stress ratio(R) of 0.05. The initiation, growth and coalescense process of the major cracks and sub-cracks among the fatigue cracks on the smooth specimen are investigated and measured under each stress level at a constant cycle ratio by the replica technique with optical microscope. Some of the important results are as follows: In spite of the difference of stress levels, the major crack data gather into a small band in the curve of surface crack length and crack depth against cycle ratio N/Nf. The sub-crack data, however, deviate from the band of the major crack. The growth rates, da/dN, of major and sub-crack plotted against the stress intensity factor range, ${\Delta}K$, have the tendency to be compressed on a relatively small band. But it is more effective to predict fatigue life through major cracks. The propagation behavior of surface microcracks on the smooth specimens coincides with that of the specimen having an artificial small surface defect or through crack.

NiTi alloy has been used for orthodontic wire due to good mechanical properties, such as elastic strength, friction resistance, and high corrosion resistance. Recently, these wire were coated by polymer and ceramic materials for aesthetics. The purpose of this study was to investigate electrochemical characteristics of tooth colored NiTi wire using various instruments. Wires (round type and rectangular type) were used, respectively, for experiment. Polymer coating was carried out for wire. Specimen was investigated with optical microscopy (OM), field emission scanning electron microscopy (FE-SEM) and energy dispersive x-ray spectroscopy (EDS). The corrosion properties of the specimens were examined using potentiodynamic tests (potential range of -1500 ~ 2000 mV) and electrochemical impedance spectroscopy (frequency range of 100 kHz ~ 10 mHz) in a 0.9 % NaCl solution by potentiostat. From the results of polarization behavior, the passive region of non-coated NiTi wire showed largely, whereas, the passive region of curved NiTi wire showed shortly in anodic polarization curve. In the case of coated NiTi wire, pitting and crevice corrosion occurred severely at interface between non-coated and coated region. From the results of EIS, polarization resistance(Rp) value of non-coated round and rectangular NiTi wire at curved part showed $5.10{\times}10^5{\Omega}cm^2$ and $4.43{\times}10^5{\Omega}cm^2$. lower than that of coated NiTi wire. $R_p$ of coated round and rectangular NiTi wire at curved part showed $1.31{\times}10^6{\Omega}cm^2$ and $1.19{\times}10^6{\Omega}cm^2$.
When the rubber vulcanizates reinforced with carbon black or silica are subjected to cyclic loading from its virgin state, the stress required on reloading is less than that on the initial loading. This stress softening phenomenon is referred to as the Mullins effect. The strain energy function of rubber vulcanizates was investigated using theory of pseudo-elasticity incorporated damage parameter that Ogden and Roxburgh have proposed to describe the damage-induced stress softening effect in rubber-like solids. The quasi-static cyclic loading test was performed using the NR-SBR vulcanizates reinforced with carbon black, and then the effect of a damage parameter to stress-strain curve in reloading and subsequent reloading paths was studied. The strain energy function of the rubber vulcanizates with a different filler content was also evaluated.

Titanium and Titanium alloys are widely used as an orthopedic and dental implant material because of their excellent biocompatibility and mechanical strength. In this study, ECAP Cp-Ti and Cp-Ti were heat treated for different annealing time of 30 min, 90 min and 3 hours. The grain size for each condition was studied. The micro-Vicker hardness test was carried out f3r each different heat treated samples. The micro-Vicker hardness test for ECAP Cp-Ti, Cp-Ti and Cp-Ti (3hr) revealed hardness values of 239.5, 182 and 144 Hv, respectively. The grain size was increased from approximately $70{\mu}m\;to\;300{\mu}m$ with the increase in heat treatment time from 30 min to 3 hours. The heat treated samples were tested for their biocompatibility in simulated body fluid (SBF) and corrosion rates was determined using Polarization Curve test (PCT). The PCT results showed Cp-Ti with comparatively high corrosion potential of -0.18 V and corresponding corrosion current of $2\times10^{-6}$ A, while the corrosion rate in ECAP Cp-Ti and Cp-Ti (30 min annealed) showed very similar results of corrosion potential about -0.47 V with corresponding corrosion current of $7\times10^{-8}$ A.
The polymer-polymer interaction parameter, x 23t, of the styrene-butadiene polymer (SBR) and ethylene-propylene-diene terpolymer (EPDM) was investigated by observing the phase behavior of the ternary system of SBR/EPDM/solvent. The solvent used in this study was benzene acting as a good solvent for SBR but as a poor solvent for EPDM. Ternary solutions with various concentrations and mixing ratios of the two component polymers were separated into two phases by temperature change The cloud point curves (CPC) showed that the differerence of solvent affinities toward each polymer and the repulsive interaction between two polymers considerably affect the shape of CPC near 15℃. In the temperature range of 5℃ ~ 25℃, incompatible behaviours arised from both the difference of mixing ratios and concentration were clearly observed. Also the phase separation temperature greatly influenced on the composition of each separated phase. The calculated x 23t values from Flory-Huggins theory were in the range of 0.6301 ~ 1.0775, which suggest that the SBR/EPDM systems are incompatible.

The europium doped yttrium oxybromide phosphors were synthesized by solid-state reaction method. The YOBr: $Eu^{3+}$ phosphor showed a strong and narrow red emission band at 621 nm and maximum emission intensity obtained when 0.05 mol Eu ions were doped. The red emission of $Eu^{3+}$ originated from $^5D_0$${\rightarrow}$$^7F_2$electric dipole transition. In order to investigate on photoluminescence behavior, several experimental skills and numerical fittings are conducted to the YOBr: $Eu^{3+}$ phosphor. The emission spectrum was measured in the UV range and then decay curve of $^5D_0$${\rightarrow}$$^7F_j$transitions was examined. The energy interaction type of YOBr: $Eu^{3+}$ phosphor was dipole-dipole interaction. In addition to the calculating by critical concentration, the critical distance ($R_0$) was calculated by decay curve fitting parameter from Inokuti-Hirayamas equation, and spectral overlap method. The critical distance was 17.03, 10.51 and 7.18$\AA$ for those methods, respectively. As considering systematic error of measurements, these values are within the same order, so that the above fitting methods are plausible and recommendable.

The wheel-rail interaction forces are influenced by the velocity of vehicle, wheel load, alignment (curve radius, cant etc). For the safety of track structure, it is required to evaluate the influences for track and influential factors. Recently, the HEMU 430-X, which was developed by Next Generation High-Speed Rail Development R&D Project, achieved 421.4km/h in a test run of Daegu.Busan section of the Gyeongbu high speed rail on March in 2013. In the case of additional speed-up test on Test-Bed Section(Gongju.Jeongeup: KP 100~128km Osong starting point), the analysis of track forces is required for outer rail by the increase of dynamic force and centrifugal force of vehicle. In this paper, the vehicle speed variation on HSL line is evaluated by TPS analysis considering the tractive effort of HEMU 430-X, tested running resistance and alignment of Honam HSR. And the track forces are evaluated by centrifugal force and impact factor on curved track.
It is well know that the structure of shape memory alloy (SMA) can change from martensite austenite by either temperature or stress. Due to their inherent shape recovery properties, SMA fiber can be used such as for stress or cure-monitoring sensor or actuator, during applied stress or temperature. Incomplete superelasticity was observed as the stress hysteresis at stress-strain curve under cyclic loading test and temperature change. Superelasticity behavior was observed for the single-SMA fiber/epoxy composites under cyclic mechanical loading at stress-strain curve. SMA fiber or epoxy embedded SMA fiber composite exhibited the decreased interfacial properties due to the cyclic loading and thus reduced shape memory performance. Rigid epoxy and the changed interfacial adhesion between SMA fiber and epoxy by the surface treatment on SMA fiber exhibited similar incomplete superelastic trend. Epoxy embedded single SMA fiber exhibited the incomplete recovery during cure process by remaining residual heat and thus occurring residual stress in single SMA fiber/epoxy composite.
As performance-based design (PBD) has a direct impact on evacuation safety assessments, designing fire scenarios based on real fire tests is essential. To improve the reliability of the PBD for fire safety in multiplexes, information on fire behavior, such as heat release rate (HRR) and fire spread rate, are provided in this study by conducting a standard fabric flammability test. To this end, several chairs were arranged in a pattern that resembled a theater-style seating. The peak HRR and heating value per unit mass for each chair ranged from 415 kW to 988 kW and 15.2 MJ/kg to 23.8 MJ/kg, respectively. The heating values per unit mass of the new and old chairs were 23.6 MJ/kg and 16.7 MJ/kg, respectively. As the quantity of plastic and cushioning materials in the new chairs was more than that of the old ones, the new chairs were more vulnerable to fire hazards. Furthermore, when the chairs were arranged in a line, the fire spread rate was observed to be 0.39-0.42 m/min, regardless of the ignition location. Finally, a fire growth curve showing the peak HRR and fire spread rate was also demonstrated.
