  • As the environmental pollution and the global warming have become more and more serious, the green management has been growing more and more critical to small and medium enterprises. In order to explore factors positively influencing small and medium enterprises' green management performance, this study presents the two major implications through the ordinary least squares regression based on the 2,200 data from the small and medium enterprises in the Republic of Korea. First, small and medium enterprises' external technology R&D information network diversity positively influences their green management performance from technology R&D. Second, small and medium enterprises' production process improvement is a partial mediator between their external technology R&D information network diversity and green management performance from technology R&D.

  • The purpose of the study is to identify risk factors and analyze risk impacts to increase R&D outcome by taking into consideration the activities undertaken in each phase of New Product Development(NPD) process. The paper builds on survey research that has been developed new IT products within the past 5 years at SAMSUNG and LG subsidiaries in the Republic of Korea. This study identified risk factors in accordance with NPD process and evaluated the identified risk factors with survey questionnaires. To analyze the risk impacts were used to perform a logistic regression analysis based on R&D output. The impact of risk factors were higher for the low-output group. High-output group took a risk into consideration unique undertakings in project management and managed risk factors effectively in order to increase R&D output. Consequently, with the aim of improving output of R&D, a risk management is necessary to identify the risk factors for each phase of NPD and focus on managing risk factors with great effect.

  • This study explored the Dis-Functional(DF) factors associated with the information and utilization of the R&D outcomes which has been left behind in the environmental & energy science research field. Of the total of 225 sample surveyed, exactly 66.2% responded to the questions about DF factors. The major factors that have been experienced by the respondents included the followings : the shortage of manpower and budget, inadequate network utilities of resource sharing, unstable policies of digitalization of R&D databases and of presenting a specimen copy(not only report itself but also experimental data), deficient knowledge resource system for the specialized sub-research areas, absence of the process of TLO and commercialization of R&D results, and underestimation of the significance of quality control (evaluation) of academic and research information. Some recommendations for utilization of the R&D outcomes were suggested according to the DF factors investigated.

  • The effect of research and development (R&D) expenditure on firm output is an interesting topic, but hardly explored in developing countries due to the unavailability of data. This study investigates this topic in the context of Vietnam by utilizing a novel dataset of 343 firms listed on the Vietnam Stock Exchange in the 2010-2018 period. The effect of R&D expenditure is examined under the production function framework. In order to obtain the robustness of the quantitative results, we estimate the production function with two coherent techniques including the OLS and 2-SLS. An instrumental variable regression technique is adopted to avoid the endogeneity problem between R&D expenditure and other variables. In our empirical analysis, we find that R&D expenditure has a positive and significant impact on output growth. The finding is robust in both OLS and 2-SLS frameworks. Besides, the output elasticity to R&D expenditure of our result is much higher than the estimated elasticity of other countries. The results imply that a 1% increase in R&D expenditure in Vietnam will help to expand the output more than a 1% increase in R&D investment in other countries. The findings from our paper provide important implications for firm managers, investors, and policymakers in Vietnam.

  • This study explores the role of knowledge sharing between their social capital and performance in R&D setting. R&D environment is composed of experts from various domains with different backgrounds, such as technologies and experiences. Thus, increasing team social capital and enhancing knowledge sharing are critical for R&D performance. Social capital and Knowledge sharing are classified into two : Social capital and Knowledge sharing within/outside team. A empirical study was conducted at a research institute of large company that leads the advanced research and development of the domestic chemical industry. Data was collected 292 copies out of 500 copies (Response rate 58.4%). The result indicated that both social capital within and outside team had a positive effect on R&D Performance. Social capital within team had a significant impact on knowledge sharing within the team only, and social capital outside team had a significant effect on knowledge sharing outside the team only. Only knowledge sharing outside the team had a positive effect on R&D Performance and the mediating role of knowledge sharing was acquired for social capital outside team and R&D Performance only. From these key findings, this study suggests that, within the team, social capital alone can achieve results, but outside the team, it is necessary that not only social capital but also knowledge sharing are needed in order to achieve results.

  • Automotive wheel bearing grease helps to reduce stresses and prevent wear of wheel bearings. But it is easily contaminated by water and other contaminants. In this study, we investigated the property change of automotive wheel bearing grease under water contamination. The result showed that some properties such as dropping point, work penetration and oxidation stability were not influenced by water content. However, most of properties such as work stability, water washout characteristics, leakage tendency, oil separation, evaporation loss and rust protection became worse after water was added. This is thought that added water makes the interaction weak between thickener and base oil of grease.

  • In the literature, it is pointed that distributive justice explains pay satisfaction and job satisfaction better than procedural justice, and procedural justice explains organizational commitment and researcher's evaluation about the supervisor better than distributive justice. We empirically tested if these findings are valid in R&D institutes with the data collected from Korean R&D professionals. It is found that the relations between the justices and the outcome variables are more complicated. The result of the analysis shows that distributive justice is also significantly related to organizational commitment, but not to job satisfaction, and procedural justice is also significantly related to pay satisfaction, and job satisfaction. Implications of the findings and possible influence of the R&D setting are discussed.

  • This study aims to examine the relationship between total quality management(TQM) practices and operational performance perceived by employees who are in different functional organization types, R&D function and Non-R&D function organization in manufacturing companies. Operational performance is defined as the degree of operation efficiency in the perspective of quality, delivery, and cost. Our study showed that the significant elements of TQM practice were different depending on functional organization types. In case of R&D organization, the categories of customer focus and process management were the strongest significant predictors of operational performance. Therefore, the optimal TQM practices for R&D organization can be obtained in consideration of customer focus and process management.

  • There has been much efforts to facilitate healthcare innovation and many desirable outcomes were produced in Korea. However, some structural deficiencies were found. They are misalignment of research and development (R&D) subjects with healthcare system, lack of flexibility of current healthcare system to accommodate the radically innovative products, and lack of cooperation among innovation agent. Some suggestions to correct these deficiencies are discussed. The suggestions are as follows: relating Korean healthcare R&D to healthcare system, enhancement of institutional flexibility to allow innovative application of new technology, improvement of the R&D process, and reexamination of the role of academic medical centers.

  • Technology Management and R&D(Research and Development) have been one of the most difficult divisions for measurement and evaluation. In spite of these difficulties, the concern and importance of R&D has been dramatically increased. However, it is actually very difficult to manage more efficiently and effectively than any other departments of production, finance, marketing and so on. As criticizing the shortcomings of the traditional evaluation system in making decisions for corporate management which has only been focused on financial indices, so Kaplan & Norton has suggested the Balanced Scorecard (BSC) which can be managed Critical Success Factors(CSF) in accordance with corporate's strategy. The Analytic Network Process(ANP), though based on the Analytic Hierarchy Process, allows the decision makers to leap beyond the traditional hierarchy to the interdependent environment of network modeling. Basing on BSC, this study has developed the evaluation system for R&D which has used ANP transforming quantitative and qualitative indices to the quantifying scales in evaluating R&D.
