  • Conventionally, because evaluation methods of the bearing capacity for double steel pipe-concrete composite pile design have not been established, the conventional vertical bearing capacity equations for steel hollow pile are used. However, there are severe differences between the predictions from these equations, and the most conservative one among vertical bearing capacity predictions are conventionally adopted as a design value. Consequently, the current prediction method for vertical bearing capacity of composite pile prediction composite pile causes design reliability and economical feasibility to be low. This paper investigated mechanical behaviors of a new composite pile, with a cross-section composed of double steel pipes filled with concrete (DSCT), vertical bearing capacities were analyzed for several DSCT pile conditions. Axisymmetric finite element models for DSCT pile and surrounding ground were created and they were used to analyze effects on behaviors of DSCT pile pile by embedding depth, stiffness of plugging material at pile tip, height of plugging material at pile tip, and rockbed material. Additionally, results from conventional design prediction equations for vertical bearing capacity at steel hollow pile tip were compared with that from numerical results, and the use of the conventional equations for steel hollow pile was examined to apply to that for DSCT pile.

  • In this study, we investigated the applicability of a termiticide based on metofluthrin for termite control on traditional wooden buildings. To evaluate their mortality, termites were exposed to the agent, diluted to various concentrations, for seven days; it was found that it had a sufficient insecticidal effect although there was a difference depending on the degree of agent dilution. Next, the effect on Dancheong, used in traditional wooden structures, was measured based on the color change according to the number of agent treatments. The results showed that only the color difference value of two pigments (i.e., Bun and Juhong) was measured as 3.0 or higher. However, there this varied according to the dilution ratio. Thus, it was found that most pigments had little effect on the color of Dancheong. Finally, the termiticidal efficacy of the agent when applied to wood was evaluated. We found that the specimens coated with 10-fold and 20-fold dilutions exhibited 2.83 and 6.28% mass loss, respectively. The 10-fold dilution satisfied the performance of termiticide as a mass loss of less than 3%. In conclusion, the metofluthrin-based agent used in this study has little effect on various Dancheong pigments and has a termiticidal effect against termites; it is therefore suggested that it may be used in preserving traditional wooden cultural properties in Korea.

  • The aim of this work was to a comparative review the performance of high calcium silicate cement (HSCSC) and that of ordinary Portland cement(OPC) and blast furnace slag cement(S/C). The result of the compressive test confirmed that the compressive strength development rate of high calcium silicate cement concrete at the age of 3 days was 73.6% that of ordinary Portland cement concrete. However, at the age of 28 days, the strength development rate of high calcium silicate cement increased to about 107.0% compared to ordinary Portland cement. In addition, the test of the chloride ion penetration resistance of concrete showed that at the age of 28 days, the passed charge decreased by 73.4% and 93.0%, respectively, in blast furnace slag cement and high calcium silicate cement compared to ordinary Portland cement, and at the age of 56 days, it decreased by 79.1% and 98.3%, exhibiting excellent resistance to chloride ion penetration. In particular, it was confirmed that the rate of decrease in the passed charge with age was higher in high calcium silicate cement than in ordinary Portland cement and blast furnace slag cement.

  • Microbiological examination of silage is of little value in gauging the outcome of silage, and so chemical analysis is more reliable and meaningful indicator of quality. On the other hand chemical assessments of the principal fermentation products provide an unequivocal basis on which to judge quality. Livestock require energy, protein, minerals and vitamins from their food. While fresh forages provide these essential items, conserved forages on the other hand may be deficient in one or more of them. The aim of the conservation process is to preserve as many of the original nutrients as possible, particularly energy and protein components (Woolford, 1984). Silage fermentation is important to preservation of forage with respect of feeding value and animal performance. Chemical and bacteriological changes in the silo during the fermentation process can affect adversely nutrient yield and quality (Moe and Carr, 1984). Many of the important chemical components of silage must be assayed in fresh or by extraction of the fresh material, since drying either by heat or lyophilisation, volatilises components such as acids or nitrogenous components, or effects conversion to other compounds (Abrams et al., 1987). Maize silage dorms the basis of winter rations for the vast majority of dairy and beef cattle production in Uruguay. Since nutrient intake, particularly energy, from forages is influenced by both voluntary dry matter intake and digestibility; there is a need for a rapid technique for predicting these parameters in farm advisory systems. Near Infrared Reflectance Spectroscopy (NIRS) is increasingly used as a rapid, accurate method of evaluating chemical constituents in cereals and dried forages. For many years NIRS was applied to assess chemical composition in dry materials (Norris et al., 1976, Flinn et al., 1992; Murray, 1993, De Boever et al., 1996, De la Roza et al., 1998). The objectives of this study were (1) to determine the potential of NIRS to assess the chemical composition of dried maize samples and (2) to attempt calibrations on undried samples either for farm advisory systems or for animal nutrition research purposes in Uruguay. NIRS were used to assess the chemical composition of whole - plant maize silage samples (Zea mays, L). A representative population of samples (n = 350) covering a wide distribution in chemical characteristics were used. Samples were scanned at 2 nm intervals over the wavelength range 400-2500 nm in a NIRS 6500 (NIRSystems, Silver Spring, MD, USA) in reflectance mode. Cross validation was used to avoid overfitting of the equations. The optimum calibrations were selected on the basis of minimizing the standard error of cross validation (SECV). The calibration statistics were R$^2$ 0. 86 (SECV: 11.4), 0.90 (SECV: 5.7), 0.90 (SECV: 16.9) for dry matter (DM), crude protein (CP), acid detergent fiber (ADF) in g kg$\^$-1/ on dry matter, respectively for maize silage samples. This work demonstrates the potential of NIRS to analyse whole - maize silage in a wide range of chemical characteristics for both advisory farm and nutritive evaluation.

  • In this study, the results of the elasto-plastic beam analysis, finite element analysis and optimization design of the steel pipe sheet pile applied as an earth retaining wall under the deep excavation were presented. Through this study, it was found that the high-strength and sea resistant steel pipe has high allowable stress, excellent structural properties, favorable corrosion, and high utilization as an earth retaining wall, and the C-Y type joint has significantly improved the tensile strength and stiffness compared to the traditional P-P type. In addition, it was investigated that even if the leak or defect of the wall occurs during construction, it has the advantage of being able to be repaired reliably through welding and overlapping. In the case of steel pipe wall, they were evaluated as the best in views of the deep excavation due to the large allowable bending stress and deformation flexibility for the same horizontal displacement than CIP or slurry wall. Elasto-plastic and finite element analysis were conducted in consideration of ground excavation under large-scale earth pressure (uneven pressure), and the results were compared with each other. Quantitative maximum value were found to be similar between the two methods for each item, such as excavation behavior, wall displacement, or member force, and both analysis method were found to be applicable in design for steel pipe sheet pile wall. Finally, it was found that economical design was possible when determining the thinnest filling method with concrete rather than the thickest hollow shape in the same diameter, and the depth (the embedded length through normality evaluation) without rapidly change in displacement and member force.

  • This study conducted an effect evaluation before and after the installation of a vehicle information guidance system that provides drivers with information about vehicle speed and the presence or absence of pedestrians near pedestrian crossings. There are three types of scenarios: when no information is provided to the driver (S1), when only the vehicle driving speed is provided (S2), and when pedestrians are present on the pedestrian crossing and when both vehicle driving speeds are provided (S3). did. As a result of the survey, the speed reduction rate of the vehicle was found to be about 0.4~0.7km greater in S2 and S3 that provide information to the driver than in scenario S1. In addition, in the scenario S3, the speed reduction rate is 0.2km higher than that in the case where there are pedestrians near the pedestrian crossing, which further reduces the vehicle speed. Statistical analysis also showed that there was a difference in the speed reduction rate of the average vehicle for the three scenarios, and that the speed reduction rate was large in the presence of pedestrians.

  • The evaluation of passive earth pressure plays a crucial role in the design of earth-retaining structures such as retaining walls and temporary earth-retaining walls to withstand horizontal earth pressure. In the earth pressure theory, active and passive earth pressures represent the earth pressures at the limit state, where the wall displacement reaches the maximum allowed displacement. In the design of earth-retaining structures, the passive earth pressure is considered as the resisting force. In this context, the limit displacement at which passive earth pressure occurs is significantly greater than that associated with the active earth pressure. Therefore, it is irrational to apply this displacement directly to the calculation of passive earth pressure. Instead, it is necessary to consider the mobilized passive earth pressure exerted at the allowable horizontal displacement to evaluate the structural stability. This study proposes an allowable wall displacement, denoted as 0.002 H (where H represents the excavation depth), based on a literature review that focuses on sandy soils. To calculate the mobilized passive earth pressure from the wall displacement, a semi-empirical equation is proposed. By analyzing the obtained data on mobilized passive earth pressure, a reduction factor applicable to Rankine's passive earth pressure is proposed for practical application in sandy soils under different wall movement types.

  • The purpose of this study was to identify the differences of cognitive responses, emotional responses, customer satisfaction, and service loyalty about service encounter quality by types of restaurants and to analyse emotional responses, customer satisfaction, and service loyalty in accordance with level of service encounter quality. The questionnaire were collected from customers (N=812) who had used restaurants in Seoul, aiming at 15 or more-year-old customers from October 24, 2005 to November 6, 2005. The main results of this study were as follows: Statistically significant difference was showed in importance and performance of interaction quality, importance and performance of physical environment quality, performance of outcome quality depending on types of restaurants, while significant difference was not indicated in importance of outcome quality by types of restaurants. Positive emotional response was significantly high by types of restaurants in order of fine-dining restaurants, family restaurants, and fast-food restaurants, while negative emotional responses were significantly higher in fast-food restaurants than in the other two types. As far as Customer satisfaction are concerned, fine-dining restaurants showed higher customer satisfaction than the other two types. Attitudinal service loyalty was high in fine-dining restaurants, family restaurants and fast-food restaurants in order and behavioral loyalty was not significantly different with each type of restaurant. In accordance with level of service encounter quality, cluster analysis was conducted and the clusters were divided into 'high-valuation' and 'low-valuation'. 'High-valuation cluster' and 'low-valuation cluster' showed significant difference depending on types of restaurants that customers used(p<.001). The customers who used fine-dining restaurants and family restaurants valued the performance of service encounter highly. However, in fast-food restaurants, a lot of low-valuation customers existed. Therefore, fast-food restaurants have to improve performance of interaction quality, outcome quality and physical environment quality in service encounter. In addition, in 'high-valuation cluster' who valued service encounter quality highly showed higher scores in positive responses, customer satisfaction, service loyalty than in 'low-valuation cluster', and showed low negative responses.

  • Objectives : This study aimed to find out the future direction of accreditation system of Extramural herbal dispensaries (EHD) by comparing the current criteria of EHD and the existing Korea good manufacturing practice (GMP) regulations. Methods : Among the accreditation criteria of EHD, criteria of general herbal medicine was compared with the pharmaceutical GMP of Korea. The regulations of the accreditation of EHD and the regulations of KGMP were compared and organized with similar things based on the index of KGMP. All criteria from both were extracted for each element, classified into key-words and evaluated by dividing them into the same, similar one and no-matching. Results : Among the 189 criteria of KGMP, 77 criteria were consistent with the accreditation of EHD, and 15 criteria were similar. Based on the accreditation of EHD, 70.4% of the criteria were consistent or similar to KGMP. There were a total of 27 key-words only in the GMP criteria and not in the EHD one. Hence, a total of 25 key-words only in the EHD criteria and not in the GMP one. There were 12 similar key-words, and among them, there were 4 key-words in which accreditation of EHD was more specific than the KGMP. Conclusions : The criteria of general herbal medicine in EHD showed a similar or equivalent level of accreditation criteria compared to that of pharmaceutical GMP in Korea, and it ts believed that it should be considered at the current level to reflect the characteristics of herbal medicine.
