Structures that have constructed in soft clay might suffer from many issues related to consolidation settlement or lateral movement of soft-clay during long-term period. Therefore, it is important to establish proper design and construction processes related to site investigation, soil improvement, construction management, and so on. This case study focused on the construction of the rahmen structure supported by pile foundations. Especially, the structure in this case had been constructed without improving underlying soft clay and before constructing backfill embankment due to the limited construction time and the traffic connection of the old road crossing new highway. Therefore, in order to satisfy the structural stability, the construction processes and countermeasure methods were carefully planned based on the results of preliminary numerical analyses and monitoring of ground behaviors. Through the trial and error precess during the construction, the structures had been successfully constructed.

In 2017, amid changes in the security market such as integrated security (IS) and convergence security (CS), a variety of security paradigms in terms of operation and management have been suggested. Rather than changing existing network infrastructure and bringing about fluid, multi-dimensional changes, these solutions and technologies focus entire security capacity on a primary protection, leading to network infrastructure suffering from unexpected inherent violations and problems in a continued manner. Therefore, it is time to propose and develop a flexible network section that can protect from attacks of similar pattern and concentrated traffic attacks by applying a new concept of WB (Water-Bubble) to network infrastructure and analyzing on the basis of experiment and installation. Methodology of the WB-based highly secure flexible network section proposed in this study is expected to provide materials for studies on how to achieve network section security taking into account three major limitations and security standards: fluidity, unpredictability, and non-area scalability by contact point ratio, by changing a network area predicted to be the final target of attack into resonant network section (area) with flexible area changes.

Scientists and engineers have altered the properties of materials such as metals, alloys, polymers, ceramics, and so on, to suit the ever changing needs of our society. Man-made engineering materials generally demonstrate excellent mechanical properties, which often tar exceed those of natural materials. However, all such engineering materials lack the ability of self-healing, i.e. the ability to remove or neutralize microcracks without intentional human interaction. The damage management paradigm observed in nature can be reproduced successfully in man-made engineering materials, provided the intrinsic character of the various types of engineering materials is taken into account. Various self-healing ptotocols that can be applied for the organic materials such as polymers, ionomers and composites can be developed by utilizing suitable chemical reactions and physical intermolecular interactions.

This paper describes the first-year accomplishments in the R'||'&'||'D project entitled, "Electrodeless Fluorescent Lamp Technology Using High-Frequency Discharges (Linear and Circular Type)," supported by a contract from the Korea Energy Management Corporation (KEMCO). One of the most important accomplishments in the prihect is that the luminance of electrodeless fluorescent lamps is increased more than 25% when the hybrid technique of capacitive and inductive couplings is utilized for both linear and circular types of high-frequency discharge fluorescent lamps compared to the case where pure capacitive couplings are used. We present the results of the experiments and the status of the development efforts in the project.t.

Real time location (RTL) system which can control the safety of laborers in the underground space is developed in this study. This innovative system can monitor the location and history of movement of multiple laborers in real time. To accommodate constrains of the underground space, the system is portable and composed with low-battery mode. Since conventional method to detect the location of laborer with radio signal strength indicator (RSSI) contains high errors, new measurement system using accelerometers and correction method are suggested in this study. Field test is performed to validate the developed system. The error for moving laborer was 0.4 m and for non-moving laborers was 0.2 m. Thus, it is found that the new RTL system can be used to monitor the location of laborers in the underground construction space.

An experimental research on the possibility of using fiber reinforced concrete precast tunnel segments instead of traditional reinforced concrete(RC) segment has been performed in europe. This solution allows removing the traditional reinforcement with several advantages in terms of quality and cost reduction. Full-scale bending tests were carried out in order to compare the behaviour of the segments under flexural actions on both rebar reinforced concrete and rebar-fiber reinforced elements. The test results showed that the fiber reinforced concrete can substitute the traditional reinforcement; in particular the segment performance is improved by the fiber presence, mainly in terms of crack.
This study analyzed the factors influencing the technology transfer of Government-Funded Research Institutes from the perspective of resource-based view. In particular, we analyzed the effects of research resources, research capacity, and research results diffusion variables on technology transfer performance. The research resource variables affect the primary output of R&D (patents, research papers) but direct effect on the technology transfer performance was very weak. Among the research competency variables, patent-related variables such as patent registration, patent holdings have a significant effect on the technology transfer performance. However, the research papers have a negative effect on the technology transfer performance. The research results diffusion variables such as TLO organization and TLO budget may partly have a positive impact on technology transfer, but the statistical significance is not clear.

In case a firm proceeds with TQC the activity of QCC, one of the activities concerned with TQC, is made first of all. There fore, in consideration that TQC could not be successful with the activity of QCC being unsuccessful a firm underlines activating QCC and makes considerable support of the educational discipline. However, as for the data of TQC having been introduced in domestic country no data related to construction industry have been found, all of them being concerned with manufacturing industry and it has happened that some firms of the construction industry make the negative reaction to the activity of QCC. So some of firms including our one have prepared and published their own texts and made them available by utilizing the translated Japanese data which were attained through Japanese construction firms. It is thought that a problem has been caused by the above-stated. While Japanese firms have made R & D of the features concerning to the most basic QCC activity for themselves, Korean ones have just followed and taken advantage of those originated by Japanese without being conscious of the basic idea, and this has caused the consequent failing of QCC activity. In other word, the emphasis of the results only rather than process has brought about the unsuccessful QCC activity.

Recently many companies has implied the measurement system to measure the organizational and personal performance. For that purpose the measurement system based on Balanced Scorecard(BSC) is broadly implemented. For the successful and effective measurement of performance measurement the design of measurement methodology and indicators should be carried out by experts in this field, and "the objectivity" should be kept in the whole process. But due to the financial difficulties many of the companies have relied on the standard (performance measurement) software, which is avaliable in the market. In this paper the performance measurement. Indicators has been presented for the small and medium sized manufacturing company. As the result of this research the presented performance measurement indicators for administration, operation and R&D part are statistically verified as it is effective.
Aid to Navigation (AtoN) is the artificial facilities to facilitate the ship's safe navigation using light, shape, color, sound, and radio waves. IALA has developed and operated the educational course for expert groups for the design, deployment, and management of AtoN. Also, maritime educational institutes have operated various educational courses for safe navigation through the ship's operation and ECDIS curriculum for seafarers. However, education using the AtoN Simulator System is needed to prevent marine accidents caused by misunderstanding of the AtoN according to various topographical, environmental, and maritime traffic environments. In this study, the existing ship handling simulator and AtoN simulator were applied to develop educational modules for accurate understanding and application of AtoN in various environments, enhancing the quality of education from the existing theoretical point of view and improving practical use to maximize educational efforts.
