  • In this paper, we describe a generation mechanism of semantic-based queries for high accuracy information retrieval and question answering. It is difficult to offer the correct retrieval result because general information retrieval systems do not analyze the semantic of user's natural language question. We analyze user's question semantically and extract semantic features, and we .generate semantic-based queries using them. These queries are generated using the se-mantic-based question analysis grammar and the query generation rule. They are represented as semantic features and grammatical morphemes that consider semantic and syntactic structure of user's questions. We evaluated our mechanism using 100 questions whose answer type is a person in the TREC-9 corpus and Web. There was a 0.28 improvement in the precision at 10 documents when semantic-based queries were used for information retrieval.

  • In this paper, we present a knowledge-based object-oriented spatial database system called KOBOS. A knowledge-based approach is introduced to the object-oriented spatial database system for data modeling and approximate query answering. For handling the structure of spatial objects and the approximate spatial operators, we propose three levels of object-oriented data model: (1) a spatial shape model; (2) a spatial object model; (3) an internal description model. We use spatial type abstraction hierarchies(STAHs) to provide the range of the approximate spatial operators. We then propose SOQL, a spatial object-oriented query language. SOQL provides an integrated mechanism for the graphical display of spatial objects and the retrieval of spatial and aspatial objects. To support an efficient hybrid query evaluation, we use the top-down spatial query processing method.

  • Distance browsing queries, namely k-nearest neighbor queries, are the most important queries in spatial database applications, e.g., Geographic Information Systems(GISs). Recently, GIS applications trends to extend themselves toward wide multi-user environments such as the Web. Since many techniques for such queries, where Hjaltason and Samet's algorithm is the most efficient one, were optimized for only one query, we need to complement them suitable for multi-user environments. It can be a good approach that we store many individual query results in a cache, i.e., query result caching and reuse them in evaluating incoming queries, j.e., query result matching. In this paper, we propose a complementary Hjaltason and Samet's algerian capable of reusing previous query results in a cache for answering distance browsing queries in multi-user GIS environments. Our experimental results conform the efficiency of our approach.

  • The main idea of this paper is to combine position information in sentence and query type classification to make the documents ranking to query more accessible. First, the use of conceptual graphs for the representation of document contents In information retrieval is discussed. The method is based on well-known strategies of text comparison, such as Dice Coefficient, with position-based weighted term. Second, we introduce a method for learning query type classification that improves the ability to retrieve answers to questions from Question Answering system. Proposed methods employ naive bayes classification in machine learning fields. And, we used a collection of approximately 30,000 question-answer pairs for training, obtained from Frequently Asked Question(FAQ) files on various subjects. The evaluation on a set of queries from international TREC-9 question answering track shows that the method with machine learning outperforms the underline other systems in TREC-9 (0.29 for mean reciprocal rank and 55.1% for precision).

  • One of the factors that have the greatest influence on the error of the question answering system that finds and provides answers to natural language questions is the step of searching for documents or passages that contain correct answers. In order to improve the retrieval performance, it is necessary to understand the characteristics of documents and passages containing correct answers. This paper experimentally analyzes how many question words appear in the correct answer documents, how the location of the question word is distributed, and how the topic of the question and the correct answer document are similar using the corpus composed of the question, the documents with correct answer, and the documents without correct answer. This study explains the causes of previous search research results for question answer system and discusses the necessary elements of effective search step.

  • Now a days, Efficient processing of Broadcast Queries is of critical importance with the ever-increasing deployment and use of mobile technologies. BQs have certain unique characteristics that the traditional spatial query processing in centralized databases does not address. In novel query processing technique, by maintaining high scalability and accuracy, latency is reduced considerably in answering BQs. Novel approach is based on peer-to-peer sharing, which enables us to process queries without delay at a mobile host by using query results cached in its neighboring mobile peers. We design and evaluate cooperative caching techniques to efficiently support data access in ad hoc networks. We first propose two schemes: Cache Data, which caches the data, and Cache Path, which caches the data path. After analyzing the performance of those two schemes, we propose a hybrid approach (Hybrid Cache), which can further improve the performance by taking advantage of Cache Data and Cache Path while avoiding their weaknesses. Cache replacement policies are also studied to further improve the performance. Simulation results show that the proposed schemes can significantly reduce the query delay and message complexity when compared to other caching schemes.

  • Recently, the demand for a QA (Question Answering) system for human-machine communication has increased. Among the QA systems, a closed domain QA system that can handle spatial-related questions is called GeoQA. In this study, a new type of graph database, LPG (Labeled Property Graph) was used to overcome the limitations of the RDF (Resource Description Framework) based database, which was mainly used in the GeoQA field. In addition, GraphQL (Graph Query Language), an API-type query language, is introduced to address the fact that the LPG query language is not standardized and the GeoQA system may depend on specific products. In this study, database was built so that answers could be retrieved when spatial-related questions were entered. Each data was obtained from the national spatial information portal and local data open service. The spatial relationships between each spatial objects were calculated in advance and stored in edge form. The user's questions were first converted to GraphQL through FOL (First Order Logic) format and delivered to the database through the GraphQL server. The LPG used in the experiment is Neo4j, the graph database that currently has the highest market share, and some of the built-in functions and QGIS were used for spatial calculations. As a result of building the system, it was confirmed that the user's question could be transformed, processed through the Apollo GraphQL server, and an appropriate answer could be obtained from the database.

  • This paper proposes an implementation of SPARQL-DL, which is a query language for OWL ontologies, for query-answering over the OWL ontologies virtually generated from existing RDBs. The proposed SPARQL-DL processor internally translates input SPARQL-DL queries into SQL queries and then executes the translated queries. There are two advantages in the query processing method. First, another repository to store OWL ontologies generated from RDBs is not required. Second, a large ABox generated from an RDB instance is able to be served without using Tableau algorithm based reasoners which have a problem in large ABox reasoning. Our algorithm for query rewriting is designed to create one corresponding SQL query from one input SPARQL-DL query to minimize the overhead by establishing connections with RDBs.

  • Numerous data intensive applications demand the efficient processing of a new type of query, which is called a progressive query (PQ). A PQ consists of a set of unpredictable but inter-related step-queries (SQ) that are specified by its user in a sequence of steps. A conventional DBMS was not designed to efficiently process such PQs. In our earlier work, we introduced a materialized view based approach for efficiently processing PQs, where the focus was on selecting promising views for materialization. The problem of how to efficiently find usable views from the materialized set in order to answer the SQs for a PQ remains open. In this paper, we present a new index technique, called the Dynamic Materialized View Index (DMVI), to rapidly discover usable views for answering a given SQ. The structure of the proposed index is a special ordered tree where the SQ domain tables are used as search keys and some bitmaps are kept at the leaf nodes for refined filtering. A two-level priority rule is adopted to order domain tables in the tree, which facilitates the efficient maintenance of the tree by taking into account the dynamic characteristics of various types of materialized views for PQs. The bitmap encoding methods and the strategies/algorithms to construct, search, and maintain the DMVI are suggested. The extensive experimental results demonstrate that our index technique is quite promising in improving the performance of the materialized view based query processing approach for PQs.
