Distribution coefficients between nitrobanzene solution and deionized water, show a straight line when the number of alkyl radicals against the logarithm of distribution coefficient of the salts was plotted. After extracting salts of the indicator and the cationic surfactants with organic solvents, and employing the colorimetric method was used. A calculation method of distribution coefficients of the salts in the organic solvent has been suggested and it could be used for the extraction equilibrium of the primary amine, $CH_{3}(CH_2)_{n}NH_3^+$ secondary amine, $CH_{3}(CH_2)_{n}NH_{2}(CH_3)^+$, tertiary amine $CH_{3}(CH_2)_{n}NH(CH_3)_2^+$ and quaternary ammonium, $CH_{3}(CH_2)_{n}N(CH_3)_3^+$MO$^-$salts, (n=3,5,7,11).

Tetrathiocyanatocobaltate[II] forms complexes with tertiary amine salts or quarternary ammonium salts which were extractable from aqueous solution by organic solvent. In order to study composition of the complex, the colored crystalline complexes produced were evaluated with elemental analysis, infrared and mass spectra. And also a novel spectrophotometric method for the determination of tertiary amine salt or quarternary ammonium salt with tetrathiocyanatocobaltate[II] was established by organic solvent extraction within coefficient of variation of 1.06-1.35%.

A solvent extraction system of copper-thiocyanate complex into various types of alkylamines such as secondary, tertiary and quaternary ammonium salt for the determination of trace copper by atomic absorption spectrometry is presented. The maximum extraction of copper shows at 0.1 M-thiocyanate and single extraction with 10 ml of 1% amine-MIBK from 50 ml of aqueous solution is enough to be quantitative for micro amounts of copper. The effect of amine diluents and of diverse ions are also examined.

Quaternary ammonium groups were introduced to Starburst polyamidoamine (PAMAM) dendrimers for a gene carrier. These quaternary dendritic carriers exhibited reduced cytotoxicity on 293T cells compared to parent dendrimers examined and their transfection efficiency were similar with parent dendrimers. Quaternization could be a promising tool to improve properties of dendrimers as a gene delivery carrier.

Several oxazolidinones having amine moiety were prepared to form a quaternay ammonium salt with cephalosporin nucleus, and antibacterial activity of the quaternary ammonium cephalosporin derivatives bearing oxazolidinone moiety were examined particularly with expectation of dual activity. However, the cephalosporin-oxazolidinone compounds revealed rather weaker antibacterial activity in vitro than their parent oxazolidinone and cephalosporin without showing any characteristic activity as expected.

A new method for the simultaneous determination of low molecular weight amines and quaternary ammonium ions based on the separation by IC with a suppressor and the detection by MS with ESI has been developed. The method has been applied to the analysis of a mixture containing tetramethylammonium ion, tetraethylammonium ion, tetrapropylammonium ion, triethanolamine, trimethylamine and triethylamine. The constituents were separated by isocratic elution using an IonPac CS17 column, a cation-exchange column, and detected by conductivity and mass spectrometry. The newly developed method for the six components demonstrated that the repeatability in terms of relative standard deviation for three measurements was in the range of 0.1-0.5 %. The detection limits were between 0.2 and $0.9{\mu}g/mL$ by the IC/ESI-MS.

새로운 4급 염화 암모늄염, {alkyldimethyl-[5-(2-phenylthiazol-4-yl]-1,3,4-oxadiazol-2-ylmethyl]quaternary ammonium chlorides (ADOQACs): 6}을 화합물 5와 몇 가지 N,N-dimethylalkyl amine을 반응시켜 합성하였다. 합성한 화합물들의 구조와 물리적 특성을 조사하였고 계면활성을 측정하였다. 화합물 6의 표면장력($\gamma_{cmc}$)과 최소저해농도(MIC)는 알킬기의 영향을 받은 것으로 나타났으며, 특히 화합물 6c와 6d가 좋은 항균력과 계면활성을 보였다.
