RADIATIVE TRANSFER IN A SCATTERING SPHERICAL ATMOSPHERE

  • We have written a code called QDM_sca, which numerically solves the problem of radiative transfer in an anisotropically scattering, spherical atmosphere. First we formulate the problem as a second order differential equation of a quasi-diffusion type. We then apply a three-point finite differencing to the resulting differential equation and transform it to a tri-diagonal system of simultaneous linear equations. After boundary conditions are implemented in the tri-diagonal system, the QDM_sca radiative code fixes the field of specific intensity at every point in the atmosphere. As an application example, we used the code to calculate the brightness of atmospheric diffuse light(ADL) as a function of zenith distance, which plays a pivotal role in reducing the zodiacal light brightness from night sky observations. On the basis of this ADL calculation, frequent uses of effective extinction optical depth have been fully justified in correcting the atmospheric extinction for such extended sources as zodiacal light, integrated starlight and diffuse galactic light.   • 일반화 선형모형의 범위를 크게 확장한 준-우도 모형에서 반응변수의 분산성분인 산포모수가 상수가아니라 어떤 공변량들의 값에 의존하여 변하는 경우, 평균과 산포의 동시 모형화가 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 준-우도 모형에서 평균과 산포의 동시 모형화를 통해 실제 자료를 쉽게 분석하도록 해주는 통계 패키지 GENSTAT(release 5.3.2, 1996)을 활용하여, Carrol과 Ruppert(1987,pp.46-47)에 의해 소개된 에스테르 분해효소 (esterase assay)의 자료에 대해 그래픽 방법을 이용한 모형검토를 통해서 기존의 평균모형 보다는 평균과 산포의 동시 모형화를 고려해야 하는 필요성을 언급한 뒤, 그 자료에 대한 적절한 평균과 산포의 동시 모형을 찾는 방법을 연구한다.

  • The assumed modes method is developed to derive a set of linear differential equations describing the motion of a flexible wind turbine blade and to propose an approach to investigate the forced responses result from various wind excitations. In this work, we have adopted Euler beam theory and considered that the root of the blade is clamped at the rigid hub. And the aerodynamic parameters and forces are determined based on Blade Element Momentum (BEM) theory and quasi-steady airfoil aerodynamics. Numerical calculations show that this method gives good results and it can be used fur modeling and the forced vibration analysis including the coupling effect of wind-turbine blades, as well as turbo-machinery blades, aircraft propellers or helicopter rotor blades which may be considered as straight non-uniform beams with built-in pre-twist.

준모수적 방법을 이용한 랜덤 절편 로지스틱 모형 분석 (Semiparametric Approach to Logistic Model with Random Intercept)

  • 의학이나 사회과학에서 이진 데이터 분석 시 랜덤 절편(random intercept)을 갖는 로지스틱 모형이 유용하게 쓰이고 있다. 지금까지는 이러한 로지스틱 모형에서 랜덤 절편이 정규분포와 같은 모수 모형(parametric model)을 따른다는 가정과 설명변수와 랜덤 절편이 독립이라는 가정 하에 실행된 데이터 분석이 전반적이었다. 그러나 이러한 두 가지 가정은 다소 무리가 있다. 이 연구에서는 설명 변수와 랜덤 절편의 독립성을 가정하지 않고, 비모수 랜덤 절편을 따르는 로지스틱 모형의 방법론을 기존에 널리 쓰인 방법과 비교하여 설명하도록 한다. 케냐의 초등학생들의 영양 섭취 및 질병의 발병을 조사한 데이터에 이 방법을 적용하였다.

  • 판의 두께에 선형적으로 변화하는 온도분포의 열하중을 받는 단순지지의 사각형 박판을 해석하였다. 열에 의한 판의 처짐이 판두께에 비해 상대적으로 과대하여 막응력이 부수적으로 발생하여 문제는 비선형 해석이 된다. 큰 처짐을 가지는 기하학적 비선형 문제를 지배하는 기본방정식은 von Karman 방정식이 사용되며 차분법으로 수치해석 한다. 차분화 하여 얻어지는 유사선형 대수방정식은 반복법을 도입하여 해석하고 결과치를 해석적으로 얻은 해와 비교 검토한다.

Nonlinear in-plane free oscillations of suspended cable investigated by homotopy analysis method

  • An analytical solution for the nonlinear in-plane free oscillations of the suspended cable which contains the quadratic and cubic nonlinearities is investigated via the homotopy analysis method (HAM). Different from the existing analytical technique, the HAM is indeed independent of the small parameter assumption in the nonlinear vibration equation. The nonlinear equation is established by using the extended Hamilton's principle, which takes into account the effects of the geometric nonlinearity and quasi-static stretching. A non-zero equilibrium position term is introduced due to the quadratic nonlinearity in order to guarantee the rule of the solution expression. Therefore, the mth-order analytic solutions of the corresponding equation are explicitly obtained via the HAM. Numerical results show that the approximate solutions obtained by using the HAM are in good agreement with the numerical integrations (i.e., Runge-Kutta method). Moreover, the HAM provides a simple way to adjust and control the convergent regions of the series solutions by means of an auxiliary parameter. Finally, the effects of initial conditions on the linear and nonlinear frequency ratio are investigated.

Numerical modelling for monitoring the hysteretic behaviour of CFRP-retrofitted RC exterior beam-column joints

  • This paper presents the results of a study on the capability of nonlinear quasi-static finite element modelling in simulating the hysteretic behaviour of CFRP and GFRP-retrofitted RC exterior beam-column joints under cyclic loads. Four specimens including two plain and two CFRP/GFRP-strengthened beam-column joints tested by Mahini and Ronagh (2004) and other researchers are modelled using ANSYS. Concrete in compression is defined by the modified Hognestad model and anisotropic multi-linear model is employed for modelling the stress-strain relations in reinforcing bars while anisotropic plasticity is considered for the FRP composite. Both concrete and FRP are modelled using solid elements whereas space link elements are used for steel bars considering a perfect bond between materials. A step by step load increment procedure to simulate the cyclic loading regime employed in the testing. An automatically reforming stiffness matrix strategy is used in order to simulate the actual seismic performance of the RC concrete after cracking, steel yielding and concrete crushing during the push and pull loading cycles. The results show that the hysteretic simulation for all specimens is satisfactory and therefore suggest that the numerical model can be used as an inexpensive tool to design of FRP-strengthened RC beam-column joints under cyclic loads.

미세폭발을 가진 혼화 이성분 연료 액적의 증발 현상 (Microexplosive Vaporization of Miscible Binary Fuel Droplets)

  • The evaporation characteristics of single and multicomponent droplets hanging at the tip of a quartz fiber are studied experimentally at the different environmental conditions under normal gravity. Heptane and Hexadecane are selected as two fuels with different evaporation rates and boiling temperatures. At the first step, the evaporation of single component droplet of both fuels has been examined separately. At the next step the evaporation of several blends of these two fuels, as a binary component droplet, has been studied. The temperature and pressure range is selected between 400 and 700 $^{\circ}C$, and 0.1 and 2.5 MPa, respectively. High temperature environment has been provided by a falling electrical furnace. The initial diameter of droplet was in range of 1.1 and 1.3 mm. The evaporation process was recorded by a high speed CCD camera. The results of binary droplet evaporation show the three staged evaporation. In the the first stage the more volatile component evaporates. The droplet temperature rises after an almost non evaporating period and in the third stage a quasi linear evaporation takes place. The evaporation of the binary droplet at low pressure is accompanied with bubble formation and droplet fragmentation and leads to incomplete microexplosion. The component concentration affects the evaporation behavior of the first two stages. The bubble formation and droplet distortion does not appear at high environment pressure. Nomenclature

  • Let T be a bounded linear operator acting on a complex Hilbert space ${\mathfrak{H}}$. In this paper we introduce the class, denoted ${\mathcal{Q}}(A(k),m)$, of operators satisfying $T^{m{\ast}}(T^{\ast}{\mid}T{\mid}^{2k}T)^{1/(k+1)}T^m{\geq}T^{{\ast}m}{\mid}T{\mid}^2T^m$, where m is a positive integer and k is a positive real number and we prove basic structural properties of these operators. Using these results, we prove that if P is the Riesz idempotent for isolated point ${\lambda}$ of the spectrum of $T{\in}{\mathcal{Q}}(A(k),m)$, then P is self-adjoint, and we give a necessary and sufficient condition for $T{\otimes}S$ to be in ${\mathcal{Q}}(A(k),m)$ when T and S are both non-zero operators. Moreover, we characterize the quasinilpotent part $H_0(T-{\lambda})$ of class A(k) operator.

Improved Temperature Stability in Dielectric Properties of 0.8BaTiO3-(0.2-x)NaNbO3-xBi(Mg1/2Ti1/2)O3 Relaxors

  • Ferroelectric relaxor ceramics with $BaTiO_3-NaNbO_3-Bi(Mg_{1/2}Ti_{1/2})O_3$ ternary compositions (BT-NN-BMT) have been prepared by sol-gel powder synthesis and consequent bulk ceramic processing. Through the modified chemical approach, fine and single-phase complex perovskite compositions were successfully obtained. Temperature and frequency dependent dielectric properties indicated typical relaxor characteristics of the BT-NN-BMT compositions. The ferroelectric-paraelectric phase transition became diffusive when NN and BMT were added to form BT based solid solutions. BMT additions to the BT-NN solid solutions affected the high temperature dielectric properties, which might be attributable to the compositional inhomogeneity of the complex perovskite and resulting weak dielectric coupling of the Bi-containing polar nanoregions (PNRs). The temperature stability of the dielectric properties was good enough to satisfy the X9R specification. The quasi-linear P-E response and the temperature- stable dielectric properties imply the high potential of this ceramic compound for use in high temperature capacitors.
