Lightweight Quality Metric Based on No-Reference Bitstream for H.264/AVC Video

  • This paper proposes a quality metric based on a No-Reference Bitstream (NR-B) having least computational complexity for the assessment of the human-perceptual quality of H.264 encoded video. The proposed NR-B method performs a modeling of encoding distortion with three bit-stream information (i.e. frame-rate, motion-vector, and quantization-parameter) that can be directly extractable from the encoded bitstream and does not require additional complex processing of final pictures. From performance evaluation using 165 compressed video sequences, the experiment results show that the proposed metric has a higher correlation with subjective quality than is achieved with other comparable methods.

  • The ISO(International Standard Organization) has standardized MPEG-2 audio. The MPEG-2 audio compression algorithm is based upon subband analysis and exploits the human auditory characteristics to achieve a low bit rate with minimum perceptual loss of audio signal quality. This thesis presents an enhanced MPEG-2 audio encoder using multiple TMS320C30 general purpose DSP's. The developed system is made up of five slave boards and one master board. Each slave board performs susband analysis psychoacoustic parameter calculation for one channel, and the master board manages bit allocation, quantization, and bit-stream formatting for all channels. Parallel processing and pipelining techniques are used in hardware structure and fast algorithms are applied in each subroutine to implement a real-time process. The implemented system supports multichannel up to 5.1 and various bitrates.

  • 본 논문은 제한적인 대역폭을 가지는 무선 네트워크 환경에서 실시간 비디오 스트리밍 전송을 위한 양자화 계수 자동 조절 기법을 제안한다. 제안하는 방법은 실시간 비디오 통신을 위하여, 프레임 간 차이 연산을 이용하는 방법이다. 양자화 계수에 따라 화질이 변하는 특성에 기반 하여 프레임 간 차이 연산을 통해 데이터의 변화량을 예측하여 양자화 계수를 조절한다. 실험은 802.11n 무선 네트워크 환경에서 MFC 기반 비디오 영상 통신 모듈을 통해 양자화 계수 자동 조절 기법을 적용하였다. 양자화 계수를 실시간으로 조절하여 네트워크 전송 지연을 사전에 방지하고, 상대적으로 고정된 양자화 계수를 적용하는 비디오 통신 경우에 비하여 비디오 전송에 있어 더 원활한 통신을 가능하게 한다.

  • This paper studies the effects of the method, CMS(Cepstral Mean Subtraction), (which compensates for some of the speech distortion. caused by telephone channels), on the performance of the text-dependent speaker identification system. This system is based on the VQ(Vector Quantization) and HMM(Hidden Markov Model) method and chooses the LPC-Cepstrum and Mel-Cepstrum as the feature vectors extracted from the speech data transmitted through telephone channels. Accordingly, we can compare the correct recognition rates of the speaker identification system between the use of LPC-Cepstrum and Mel-Cepstrum. Finally, from the experiment results table, it is found that the Mel-Cepstrum parameter is proven to be superior to the LPC-Cepstrum and that recognition performance improves by about 10% when compensating for telephone channel using the CMS.

  • This paper shudies an automatic gain control(AGC) algorithm used in wireless communication cellular systems. The AGC design includes the selection of the appropriate analog-to-digital converter(ADC) and keeping the input power to the ADC constant to minimize the quantization noise generated from the analog-to-digital conversion process. In this paper the process to determine the required precision or the An is illustrated and the method to set the design parameters of the AGC is proposed. And the validity of the proposed algorithm is verified by computer simulation.

  • The standard Hough transform has been dominantly used to detect straight lines in an image. However, massive storage requirement and low precision in estimating line parameters due to the quantization of parameter space are the major drawbacks of the Hough transform technique. In this paper, to overcome the drawbacks, an iterative algorithm based on a self-organizing map is presented. The self-organizing map can be adaptively learned such that image points are clustered by prominent lines. Through the procedure of the algorithm, a set of lines are sequentially detected one at a time. Computational results for synthetically generated images are given. The promise of the algorithm is also demonstrated with its application to two natural images of inserts.

  • In this paper an image compression technique based on fractal theory using iterated contractive transformation is analysed and an improved image coder is suggested. Existing methods used the classifier proposed by Ramamurthi and Gersho which utilize the properties of neighboring pixels in the spatial domain. In this paper DCT-based classification is applied to 512$\times$512 images and PSNR improvement of 0.4~2.7 dB is obtained at lower bit rate over conventional algorithms. In addition the effect of varying the domain block size and quantization step size of the luminance shift parameter on the compression ratio and the image quality is compared and analysed.

  • A new simulator which predicts the quantum effect in NMOSFET structure is developed. Using the self-consistent method by numerical method, this simulator accurately predicts the carrier distribution due to improved calculation precision of potential in the inversion layer. However, previous simulator uses analytical potential distribution or analytic function based fitting parameter Using the developed simulator, threshold voltage increment and gate capacitance reduction due to the quantum effect are analyzed in NMOS. Especially, as oxide thickness and channel doping dependence of quantum effect is analyzed, and the property analysis for the next generation device is carried out.

  • 일반적으로 블럭기반의 동영상 압축방식은 블럭킹 효과를 필연적으로 수반한다. 특히 저비트율의 동영상에서는 블럭킹 효과가 다른 어떤 영상의 왜곡보다 많이 발생한다. 본 논문에서 H.264에서 이러한 블럭킹 효과를 효율적으로 제거함으로서 주관적 화질을 높일 수 있는 후처리 알고리즘을 제안한다. 제안한 알고리즘은 H.264에서$ 4\times4$에 대한 Offset을 구하는데 움직임 벡터를 이용하여 이전 프레임의 QP(Quantization Parameter)를 이용하고 이용된 QP의 평균을 $-6\~+6$까지의 범위로 normalize 하여 Offset값을 정함으로서 인코더의 성능에 좌우되지 않고 디스플레이 될 수 있게 하는 방법이다.

Visual Modeling and Content-based Processing for Video Data Storage and Delivery

  • In this paper, we present a video rate control scheme for storage and delivery in which the time-varying viewing interests are controlled by human gaze. To track the gaze, the pupil's movement is detected using the three-step process : detecting face region, eye region, and pupil point. To control bit rates, the quantization parameter (QP) is changed by considering the static parameters, the video object priority derived from the pupil tracking, the target PSNR, and the weighted distortion value of the coder. As results, we achieved human interfaced visual model and corresponding region-of-interest rate control system.
