Anyang Stream Restoration Movement was started from 2001 for the construction of ecological city. The facilities for reuse of treated sewerage have been used since 2003 for improvement of water quality, maintenance of water quantity, river ecological restoration, and hydrophilic space. Thus, the Anyang city has been gradually transformed to eco-friendly city after the construction of Anyang stream and Hakui stream as natural rivers. In this study, biological and chemical methods as well as ecological indicators for Anyang mainstream and major tributaries were monitored for four years in between 2008 and 2012. The water quality and the diversity of species in most of the streams were found to be good except Anyang main stream. It appears that the influence of seasonal drying stream is almost disappeared except Sammak stream. Thus, the values for BOD (Biochemical Oxygen Demand) and BIP (Biological Index of Pollution) for Anyang main stream were found to be 5.27~3.42mg/l and 4.51~5.50, respectively. This is considered to be caused by the reused water quality of treated wastewater being exceeded the design criteria or by the non-point source of contaminants around the stream. However, entire section of tributaries shows I, II grade as a good water quality.
The author surveyed and analyzed the research papers of korean journal of clinical laboratory science (KJCLS) that have been posted for 28 years from 17 volumes in 1985 to 44 volumes in 2012 in the time of 50th anniversary of foundation of the korean association of medical technologists (KAMT) of in 2012. This study is aimed to provide members with basic materials helpful to research development and suggest development measures of journal. The author analyzed the number of papers, research field, type of papers, and number of authors based on the title of paper. The total number of papers is 916 and average number of paper is 33. The research field was biochemistry 167 (18.2%), microbiology 160 (17.4%), histology & cytology 99 (10.8%), molecular genetics 77 (8.5%), hematology 69 (7.5%), physiologic function 64 (7.0%), immunology 60 (6.5%), blood bank 33 (3.6%), radioimmunoassay 33 (3.6%), parasitology 27 (2.9%), quality control 18 (2.0%), urinalysis & body fluid 13 (1.4%), cytogenetics 12 (1.3%), flow cytometry analysis 6 (0.7%), and other articles were 78 (8.5%). Regarding the type of papers, original article was 777 (84.8%), case report 52 (5.7%), review 23 (2.5%), others 64 (7.0%). Regarding the number of paper authors, single author was 208 (22.7%), 2-man joint authors 178 (19.4%), 3-man joint authors 181 (19.8%), 4-man joint authors 151 (16.5%), over-5-man joint authors 198 (21.6%). The average number of papers was 33 for 28 years from 1985 to 2012, it is fewer than number of technologists and professors working currently regardless of the level of quantity and quality. The KAMT needs paper promoting measures and strategic investment on the scholarly journals that can aggressively promote to members and inspire research desire for korea citation index (KCI) registered article selection of KJCLS in the future.

This study was conducted to investigate the consolidation characteristics of the marine clay, treated with predetermined ratios of lime and briquette ash. The standard consolidation test was performed for the sample of mixture remoulded under the condition of optimum moisture content. The results obtained were as follows ; 1.The increase of the consolidation coefficient due to load increament was larger in the lime treated soil and briquette ash treated soil than in the untreated soil. The decrease of the compression index due to admixing ratio of additives was smaller in the former than in the latter. 2.The increase of the secondary consolidation coefficient of the untreated soil due to load increment was minimal, while that of lime treated soil and the lime-briquette ash treated soil was conspicuous and that of briquette ash treated soil was slight. 3.The $C\alpha$/Cc relationship of untreated soil was represented by colsely distributed points. That of briquette ash treated soil, lime treated soil and the lime-briquette ash treated soil was represented by linear distribution. The $C\alpha$/Cc values of untreated soil, briquette ash treated soil and lime treated soil were approximately 0.049, 0.044 and 0.031, respectively. 4.The maximum consolidation coefficient was obtained with lime and briquette ash (lime : briquette .h 2 :1) mixture ratio of 15%. And the minimum secondary consolidation coefficient, compression index was obtained with same mixture ratio. The required quantity of lime could be reduced and the consolidation was accelerated by applying the above mixture ratio.
The purpose of this study is to evaluate the skin whitening effect of Scirpi rhizama ethanol extract (SREE) in an animal model. For the experiment of the study, three brown guinea pigs weighing about 450 g to 550 g were exposed to ultraviolet-B rays on the backs at 500 $mJ/cm^2$ once a week, three consecutive weeks and the total quantity of light was 1,500 $mJ/cm^2$. The artificial tanning spots were divided into six different groups including normal (N), control (C), vehicle control (VC), positive control (PC), experimental 1 (E1, 1% SREE), experimental 2 (E2, 2% SREE) groups. Then, 30 ${\mu}L$ of SREE was transdermaly applied on the artificial tanning spots twice a day and 5 days a week for 8 weeks. With the result of a gross observation, it was found that the degree of pigmentation became apparently thinner in the group applied with E2, compared to the control or the vehicle control group. The melanin index of E2 group was significant lower than the control or the vehicle control group. In the observation with a light microscope, it was found that the degree of melanin pigmentation and S-100 protein expression considerably decreased in the groups applied with SREE, compared to the control or the vehicle control group. With the numerical analysis of melanin pigmentation and S-100 protein expression by using image-analysis software, it was found that the tendency was coincide with the results of microscopic observation.
Objectives: Despite various attempts to preserve the normal voice in advanced laryngeal cancer, it is inevitable for many advanced laryngeal cancer patients to undergo total laryngectomy and thus making a trade off between quality and quantity of life. Laryngectomees are faced with voice loss, change in physical appearance and health deterioration which hinder their efforts to rehabilitate back into their family and employment leading to poor quality of life. The objectives of this study were to evaluate the quality of life in long term surviving laryngectomees to, define the factors which are most important in determining their present quality of life and to propose a theoretical model for quality of life after laryngectomy in Korea. Materials and Methods: From 1986 to 1995, 120 laryngectomees with no evidence of disease were followed up for at least 3years were evaluated. Each of 15 quality of life domains with a total of ten points were given for a quality of life score. Results: There was no significant difference in the physical-mental adaptation index such as general health and mental health between the laryngectomees and control group(p>0.05). However, social adaptation index such as social activity, occupational status and economic status for laryngectomees were significantly lower with 2.3, 3.5, and 4.4 points compared to control group with 8.5, 7.6, and 7.1 points respectively(p<0.05). Conclusion : Vocational and social rehabilitation should be emphasized with highest priority for improving their economic status and thus improving their quality of life.

The mixing method of water and chemicals is significant in a small-scale water supply system because drinking water should be supplied with a certain quantity of remaining chemicals maintained. In the present study, the concentration distribution and the mixing index were obtained from four models, which were to find out the optimal mixing method of water and chemicals. The two models brought the good mixing effects out of the four, one for providing chemicals from the center of water supply pipe and the other for setting up the semicircle block at the downstream of the chemicals-providing pipe. As a result, the mixing effect was found out to be increased due to the diffusion and the disturbance of flows. In conclusion, these numerical results are expected to contribute to designing the optimal mixing system.
We developed an ecosystem indicator (EI) for the coastal and offshore areas of Korean waters. One of the major scientific challenges of this undertaking was to translate broad policy statements for ecosystem-based fisheries management (EBFM) into practical terms. Fish reproduction potential (FRP) was defined as an EI to describe the reproductive probability of adult fisheries resources in Korean waters. The FRP was estimated as the ratio of adult fish composition to total catch, catches (in metric tons) by species and by ecosystem, and fishery effort (in horse power per metric ton). The FRP indices of the East/japan Sea Ecosystem (EJSE), Yellow Sea Ecosystem (YSE), and East China Sea Ecosystem (ECSE) began to decrease after the mid-1980s, and the current indices have decreased further, at 0.63 (EJSE), 1.22 (YSE), and 0.68 (ECSE) index points compared to the indices of 1975, when similar catch amounts were recorded. Lower FRPs in the Korean marine ecosystems were the result of higher proportion of immature fisheries resources in the total catch. Because this kind of ecosystem-level indicator is thought to reflect scientific approaches to EBFM and to provide an important tool for assessing the current status of marine ecosystems with respect to both quantity and quality, more EIs should be developed for Korean waters.
This study was conducted to investigated the short-term effects of early weaning and protein intake on organ and cell growth, nitrogen metabolism and physiological functions of rats. Five groups of early weaned rats separated from the dam on the 15th day postpartum were each given one five diets consisting of either one of the three levels of casein-low(8%), -normal (16%), and -high(32%), or a normal level (16%) of isolated soy protein(ISP) or egg yolk protein, for 7 days. The normal weaned rats were fed maternal breast milk for three weeks from birth. On the 22nd day postpartum , all the rats were sacrificed . The weight gain of the early weaned rats, especially the ones fed high protein, was observed to be significantly lower than that of the normal weaned rats. By the 15th day, of early weaning and especially in the ISP-fed rats, the total DNA contents of liver and kidney, which may be said to represent an index of cell numbers, significantly decreased, but their fresh and dry weight and protein/DNA ratio, allegedly representing an index of cell size, significantly increased , not affecting the cell number and cell size of brain. There were no differences in total serum protein and albumin concentrations between early and normal weaned rats. In the early weaned rats observed , the serum urea N and $\alpha$-amino N concentrations significantly increased in high protein-fed rats, and decreased in low protein-fed rats. Another observation was that no significant difference was noticed as regards to serum GOT activity, total bilirubin, uric acid, and creatinine concentration, which may represent indices of liver and kidney functions, among rat groups, GPT activity was an exception . These results suggest that premature weaning and the quality and quantity of dietary protein significantly affect organ and cell growth and nitrogen metabolism but does not seriously affect physiological functions in the neonatal development of rats.
The shortage of research in Vietnam port evolvement is uncontroversial although a huge amount of investment is observed to upgrade both quantity and quality. This study examines the port system performance, in the context of spatially concentration ratio, in Southern Vietnam for the period 2007-2016, by using prevailing indicators for spatially concentration assessment including concentration ratios (CR), the Herfindahl-Hirschman index (HHI), the Gini coefficient, the Lorenz curve and shift-share analysis (SSA), a trend of deconcentration is described in Southern Vietnam port system, since the traditional ports to new deep-water ports. Also, driving forces of this shifting would be discussed in detail. Implications from this study would enable not only port administrators, port operators but also shipping lines, cargo owners, logistics service providers to comprehensively understand the growth of the port system in Southern Vietnam.

As respiratory tract infections (RTI) account for about 60% of all antibiotic prescriptions in outpatient care setting, there are significant concerns about emerging resistance that are largely due to the excessive or inappropriate use of antibacterial agents for viral respiratory infections. This study was aimed to develop retrospective drug utilization review (DUR) program of antibiotics for RTIs using Delphi methods. Retrospective DUR criteria of antibiotics for RTIs were identified based on clinical practice guidelines and opinion of experts. Expert panel members were clinical doctors and pharmacists and Delphi method was applied by survey on 16 members of panels. The claim data from Korean Health Insurance Review & Assessment (HIRA) were used to examine trends in outpatient antibiotic prescription between Janunary to December of 2008. As results, Quality index for RTI was assessed for the claim type, antibiotics use of quantity, duration, number and cost. Antibiotic prescription rate for RTIs, Defined Daily Dose (DDD), and duration of antibiotics use were more recognized as significant quality index by experts' opinion. Use of first line agents suggested by guidelines was low and duration of antibiotics use was shorter compared to the recommendations. Antibiotics were over prescribed for RITs. However, dose and duration of antibiotics were under-used.
