  • Purpose: The purpose of this study is to present basic data that can be used as a program to improve emotional stability and daily life ability by reducing depression and improving the quality of life of the elderly using day care facilities. Research design, data and methodology: Changes in each stage of the study subjects were observed and interviewed, and pre- and post-tests were conducted on the depression and quality of life of the elderly in the group program. The measurement tool was designed for pre-and post-test using the tools of the Korean Elderly Depression Test (K-GDS) and the elderly's quality of life test. Results: As a result of observing and interviewing participants, and examining attitudes and reactions to each session, the pre-test showed a negative attitude, but then communicated with each other to form a positive relationship. As a result of pre- and post-test on the depression and quality of life of the elderly in the group art program, it was found that depression decreased and quality of life improved after participating in the program. Conclusions: This study was conducted by dividing the physically and psychologically deteriorated elderly into a control group and an experimental group. Sharing stories from past experiences had a positive effect on relationships with group members, and the elderly who have difficulty expressing their inner feelings through art, a non-verbal medium, had a positive effect on their satisfaction with their quality of life as they felt a sense of achievement after seeing the work.

Quality of Life was measured by the Korean health related Quality of Life Scale(KQOLS) which was developed to reflect the regional, cultural and emotional background. Questionnaires were collected from 115 undergraduate male and female students in D city. Male had higher KQOLS than female but there was no statistically significant difference but appeared statistically significantly higher KQOLS in the subdomains of physical functioning, Vitality, Mental health, spiritual health. A difference analysis of determinants of the quality of life in undergraduated male and female focused on health practice showed that the factors that influenced the quality of life in male were disease, regular exercise, BMI and the explanation of antecedent variables stood at 25.1%. On the other hand, these variables did not explain the quality of life in female.

  • Low quality fresh ginseng was fermented by Pheliuus linteus mycelium at $22^{\circ}C$ for 30 days, then extracted by water solvent at $100^{\circ}C$ for 180 min. On human normal cell lines (HEK293), cytotoxicity was about 10% lower in adding extracts of the fermentation ginseng than that from low quality ginseng. The fermented extracts also inhibited the growth of several human cancer cells. Among them, respectively, digestive organs related cancer cells, such as human stomach adenocarcnioma and human epithelial adenocarcinoma were most effectively inhibited up to 85% and 90%, respectively. Then, selectivities were in the ranges of 3 to 5, compared to 2 to 3 from low quality fresh ginseng. Generally, fermented ginseng extract showed higher anticancer activities as well as higher DPPH radical sacavening activity, possibly due to high contents of total phenolic components as 6.96 mg/g. It was very interesting that the fermented ginseng contained very higher contents of ginsenoside-Rc+$Rb_2$, compared to others in low quality fresh ginseng because of partition digestion of mycelium growth. The results can tell that low quality fresh ginseng can be utilized by the fermentation with Pheliuus linteus mycelium.
