Purpose: To develop a 3D magnetic resonance fingerprinting (MRF) method for application in high resolution knee cartilage PD, T1, T2 mapping. Materials and Methods: A novel 3D acquisition trajectory with golden-angle rotating radial in kxy direction and interleaved echo planar imaging (EPI) acquisition in the kz direction was implemented in the MRF framework. A centric order was applied to the interleaved EPI acquisition to reduce Nyquist ghosting artifact due to field inhomogeneity. For the reconstruction, singular value decomposition (SVD) compression method was used to accelerate reconstruction time and conjugate gradient sensitivity-encoding (CG-SENSE) was performed to overcome low SNR of the high resolution data. Phantom experiments were performed to verify the proposed method. In vivo experiments were performed on 6 healthy volunteers and 2 early osteoarthritis (OA) patients. Results: In the phantom experiments, the T1 and T2 values of the proposed method were in good agreement with the spin-echo references. The results from the in vivo scans showed high quality proton density (PD), T1, T2 map with EPI echo train length (NETL = 4), acceleration factor in through plane (Rz = 5), and number of radial spokes (Nspk = 4). In patients, high T2 values (50-60 ms) were seen in all transverse, sagittal, and coronal views and the damaged cartilage regions were in agreement with the hyper-intensity regions shown on conventional turbo spin-echo (TSE) images. Conclusion: The proposed 3D MRF method can acquire high resolution (0.5 mm3) quantitative maps in practical scan time (~ 7 min and 10 sec) with full coverage of the knee (FOV: 160 × 160 × 120 mm3).
In southeastern regions of the US, herbage systems are primarily based on grazing or hay feeding with low nutritive value warm-season perennial grasses. Nutritious herbage such as annual ryegrass (Lolium multiflorum Lam.) may be more suitable for preserving as baleage for winter feeding even with more intensive production inputs. Emerging in-line wrapped baleage storage systems featuring rapid wrapping and low polyethylene film requirements need to be tested for consistency of storing nutritive value of a range of annual ryegrass herbage. A ryegrass storage trial was conducted with 24-h wilted 'Marshall' annual ryegrass harvested at booting, heading and anthesis stages using three replicated in-line wrapped tubes containing ten round bales per tube. After a six-month storage period, nutritive value changes and fermentation end products differed significantly by harvest stage but not by bale location. Although wilted annual ryegrass exhibited a restricted fermentation across harvest stages characterized by high pH and low fermentation end product concentrations, butyric acid concentrations were less than 1 g/kg dry matter, and lactic acid was the major organic acid in the bales. Mold coverage and bale aroma did not differ substantially with harvest stage or bale location. Booting and heading stage-harvested ryegrass baleage were superior in nutritive value to anthesis stage-harvested herbage. Based on the investigated nutritive value and fermentation characteristics, individual bale location within in-line tubes did not significantly affect preservation quality of ryegrass round bale silages.
DS/CDM-QPSK (ITU-R Recommendation BO.1130-4 Annex 6, 'Digital System E'), which has been adoptedas a standard of Korean Satellite DMB (Digital Multimedia Broadcasting) system, is a satellite-based multimedia broadcasting service which transmits the multi-channel and high quality contents to the terrestrial users through a satellite or gap-fillers. The broadcast from a satellite is directly received in the plain terrain which are within line-of-sight, but in cities where the broadcast cannot be received directly due to the shadow of buildings, an attempt is being made to install 'Gap-Fillers' to improve the reception in those areas. The gap-fillers, however, may induce interference to service of adjacent band, when their output power is substantially higher compared to the received signal power of signal from a satellite of the adjacent service. In this paper, a link budget analysis is performed, and the optimal EIRP of a gap-filler to maximize the gap-filler coverage, while preventing adjacent band interference is derived.

In-Home Display (IHD) is one of the most popular ways to induce voluntary customer participation in energy savings. Various communication technologies are used for recent IHD implementations, but most IHD systems are designed for each house because of their limitations such as communication coverage area and operation complexity. In this study, 400MHz RF communication is used for economical large-scale deployment of IHDs especially for apartment complexes that represent typical residentioal environment in Korea. Since it is essential to use internal batteries to increase the usability of IHD, the frequent changes of them should be avoided. By dividing communication data into 3 types such as common data, long term data, and short term data depending on their update periods, energy efficient communication protocol is designed and proposed. In result, the quantity of data and the battery consumption of IHD are reduced to 23.4% and 31.5% each without harming service quality.

Pot-holes are steadily increasing due to abnormal climate such as heavy rainfall and frequent snowfall. Pot-hole related to traffic accidents cause injuries, car damage and distress of road facilities. To reduce pot-holes, the use of an anti-stripping agent is mandatorily recommended to asphalt concrete mixture. Hydrated lime is commonly used as anti-stripping agent due to the convenience and economics. Byproduct ash from circulating fluidized bed boiler was reviewed as an anti stripping agent. According to the test results, the byproduct ash is satisfied with TSR specification using 1% to 3% by weight of the asphalt mixture. The byproduct ash was examined under various condition changes of aggregate and asphalt concrete mixture considering quality movement. According to the results, using the byproduct ash was measured average 0.87 of TSR and coverage rates of 60% after rolling bottle test. Test results also revealed that the byproduct ash showed stable performance. Using the byproduct ash to decrease pot-hole in asphalt concrete pavement is suitable for demonstrating stable performance as anti-stripping agent.

WiMAX has been introduced as a competitive alternative for metropolitan broadband wireless access technologies. It is connection oriented and it can provide very high data rates, large service coverage, and flexible quality of services (QoS). Due to the large number of connections and flexible QoS supported by WiMAX, the uplink access in WiMAX networks is very challenging since the medium access control (MAC) protocol must efficiently manage the bandwidth and related channel allocations. In this paper, we propose and investigate a cost-effective WiMAX bandwidth management scheme, named the WiMAX partial sharing scheme (WPSS), in order to provide good QoS while achieving better bandwidth utilization and network throughput. The proposed bandwidth management scheme is compared with a simple but inefficient scheme, named the WiMAX complete sharing scheme (WCPS). A maximum entropy (ME) based analytical model (MEAM) is proposed for the performance evaluation of the two bandwidth management schemes. The reason for using MEAM for the performance evaluation is that MEAM can efficiently model a large-scale system in which the number of stations or connections is generally very high, while the traditional simulation and analytical (e.g., Markov models) approaches cannot perform well due to the high computation complexity. We model the bandwidth management scheme as a queuing network model (QNM) that consists of interacting multiclass queues for different service classes. Closed form expressions for the state and blocking probability distributions are derived for those schemes. Simulation results verify the MEAM numerical results and show that WPSS can significantly improve the network’s performance compared to WCPS.
What impact does the sharing economy have on existing businesses? This paper empirically examines how Uber transformed the taxi industry in New York City. Using a regression model controlling various potential influencing factors, we find no direct evidence that daily trips or revenue per taxi driver decreased since Uber entered the taxi industry. However, a closer investigation into other dimensions of taxi trips reveals that taxi drivers were forced to change their way of doing businesses to retain existing daily trips and revenue. Since Uber crowded out yellow taxis from the central area of Manhattan, yellow taxis responded by serving customers outside of the Manhattan borough. From enlarging their geographical coverage and serving customers that were previously ignored, yellow taxis were able to retain their previous level of taxi trips and market share. We also find that yellow taxis responded by improving their service quality to better serve customers' needs. Our result suggests that incumbents actively responded to Uber's entry and provided substantial benefit to consumers. Combined with the incumbent's response, the sharing economy transformed the existing market in a welfare-enhancing way. This paper provides managerial and policy implication on how incumbents affected by the disruptions of the sharing economy should respond. Even though it might be yet premature to examine the impact of Uber, results suggest that incumbents have effectively defended against Uber's entry so far. We conclude that the sharing economy and the existing economy can create positive value in our society through well-intentioned competition, complementing each other's weaknesses and strengths.

In this paper, in order to improve a service quality and to broaden the service coverage in the mobile communication system a study on a digital RF repeater employed with an Interference Cancellation System(ICS) is performed. The digital RF repeater employed with an ICS is implemented to remove interference and feedback signals which are disadvantages of a conventional(or general) RF repeater. This thesis presents the design and experiments of the new wireless repeater. The proposed wireless repeater consists of a RF repeater mounted with digital engine. The digital ICS engine consists of a DSP and FPGA. The digital engine and RF circuit are designed into a one-piece. After developing hardware through the digital platform they are also designed and fabricated into a one-piece in order to apply a best performance repeater system. The method of removing interference and feedback signals is an adaptive IF technique employed with a LMS algorithm. The powerful performance and fast convergence speed is obtained by using this method.

Shore-to-sea visible light communication using color clustered multiple-input and multiple-output (MIMO) is presented. The proposed maritime visible light communication (MVLC) offers a low-cost, high-speed wireless link for shore-to-sea maritime communications. Each color cluster is comprised of 50 red, green and blue (RGB) light emitting diodes (LEDs) and is modulated using on-off-keying (OOK). Selection combining is performed at the receiver, producing diversity effect within that color cluster. In this paper, we employ sea states (wave height, wind speed, etc.) data from both Pierson-Moskowitz and JONSWAP spectrum models under atmospheric turbulence conditions. Based on the simulation model, the maritime link quality is analysed in terms of coverage distance and bit error rate performance. The results show that the proposed system provides an efficient MVLC, while satisfying International Association of Lighthouse Authorities (IALA) requirements for maritime buoyage system and also offering sufficient illumination from high power LEDs.

In this paper, a system for real-time or periodic measurement and analysis of RF parameters such as forward transmit power and pilot power in CDMA base station systems is proposed. Such RF characteristic parameter measurement can be prevented from system fault and used to achieve optimal service quality and maximum investment return through cell coverage expansion, subscriber capacity increase and so on. For forward power measurement, the local oscillator frequency for the detector is varied so that the transmit power for all channels can be measured. The channel power measurement can be used to analyze the variation in transmit power for changes in voice traffic. By comparing to forward $E_c/I_o$, the pilot channel power can be deducted, which can be used to determine uy degradation in transmit section modules such as the high dover amplifier. Since an accurate analysis of carefully measured data using the CDMA level detector must be made, the system is designed so that measurement errors due to changes in crest factor with modulation method can be overcome.
