  • This survey was conducted to investigate liberal arts college students' academic reading, to explore basic issues in their reading, and to provide how to improve their academic reading in their majors. The participants in this study were 457 students who enrolled in a college of liberal arts in a university. The study results represented as follows. Firstly, there were significant differences in vocabulary, reading comprehension, and fast-reading competence among student groups of different majors. Secondly, 66.9% of the students did not read widely in their major subjects throughout all departments. 67.7% of the students with low reading performance responded that they could complete college courses only with course textbook reading, course participation, and requirement submission. Thirdly, regarding the number of major subject books that the participants read, 82.1% of the students read less than 15 books, while 11.3% read less than a book. The students' academic reading hours during per week were less than 5 hours for 68.9% students and less than 10 hours for 13.9% respectively. Based on the results (departmental differences in reading competence, wide reading in major subject books, and liberal arts students' reading hours), liberal arts colleges need to design programs to guarantee quality and quantity in reading major subject books.

  • The purpose of this study is to figure out visitor's attitudes for trail facilities in Gayasan National Park in order to provide the basic information for effective installation and maintenance of trail facilities. The questionnaire survey on two trails were conducted to 227 visitors on the way back home after using the trails. The use characteristics of two trails were a little different from each other, and the conditions of two trails were rated relatively high both in quantity and quality. By the evaluation of 5 types of trail facilities in Haein trail and 4 types in Baegun trail, The responses were noticeably positive about wood deck, log steps with stones and wood steps in Haein trail and about deck-type wood steps and log fences in Baegun trail from the point of three aspects; harmony with nature, resources conservation and user convenience. On the other hand it seems necessary to replace the steel steps of both trails with eco-friendly materials. So, from now on it is necessary for introducing the trail facilities in National Parks to apply the eco-friendly materials extensively and to upgrade the design aspects comprehensively of harmony with nature, resources conservation and user convenience

  • Recent construction activity of infrastructures has been booming and accelerating to incur shortage of river sand for concrete works. Thus, sea sand has been excessively used instead of river sa.nd, that directly causes to decrease the quality and the durability of concrete, and then might lead to the collapse of concrete structures. The purpose of this experimental research is not only to develop high-strength concrete using sea sand, but also to investigate mechanical properties of high-strength concrete, such as elastic moduli, compressive strength and etc, which could be used for important design data of concrete structures. Rational analytic formula for elastic moduli have been proposed together with those for the splitting tensile strength and the flexural strength, which are to be predicted from compressive strength of concrete cylinder. Optimum water-cement and water-binder ratio have been experimentally obtained so as to develop high compressive strength with and without using silica fume as a admixture for concrete. It is noted that experimental elastic moduli for high strength concrete above aCk=330kgf /cm2 are less than those by the Code. Appropriate amount of concrete mixture has been experimentally investigated so as to develop maximum compressive, flexural and splitting tensile strength.

  • Biocompatibility and tissue regenerating capacity are essential characteristics in the design of collagenous biomaterials for tissue engineering. Attachment of glycosaminoglycans to collagen may add to these characteristics by creating an appropriate micro-environment. In this study, porous type I collagen matrices were crosslinked using dehydrothermal treatment and 1-ethyl-3-(3-dimethyl aminopropyl) carbodiimide, in the presence and absence of chondroitin sulfate (CS). The scaffold like discs in 3 mm diameter were inserted into the intralamellar stromal pockets of rabbit cornea. In 8 weeks of follow up, clinical evaluation including corneal neovascularization, opacity and transparency of the graft scaffold was performed, and the inflammatory reaction and migration of corneal fibroblast were evaluated histologically. No inflammation, neovascularization and opacity in any of the implant were observed. CS increased the corneal fibroblast invasion and the transparency. It is concluded that the type I collagen sponge showed a biocompatibility in corneal stromal layer and addition of CS slightly improved the quality of the bioartificial corneal stromal layer. These results could be useful for the development of corneal substitutes.

  • Buyers' Trust in suppliers is critical in all commerce, but particularly in the relationship between foreign provider and local consumer due to the liability of foreignness. This study examines (1)how local consumers trust in the product of MNCs is affected by their perceptions of the product attributes, (2)does the product trust affects customers loyalty, and (3)whether Global Corporate Citizenship moderates the relationship between the product attributes and trust. Based on previous researches, hypotheses are formulated and the statistical method used to test them was a moderated regression analysis using SPSS 20. 330 respondents from the university student group in Korea were used for this analysis. The results of this study are follows: Service communication and product perceptions such as quality, technological newness, design, and brand value have a significant effect on the product trust. The Effectiveness of product-related service communication had greater than that of the physical characteristics of product. But, price fairness is not significantly. The trust then has a positive relation to customers loyalty. When global corporate citizenship as the moderating role is introduced into the model, the interaction terms with 'price fairness' are verified to be significant. Therefore, global corporate citizenship moderates the relationship between price fairness and product trust. The results of the empirical study provide important implications for Korean firms operating in foreign markets. But, the findings are limited to the University students and to manufacturing sectors. Thus, the generalization of the results of this research remains limited.

  • Objectives : This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness and safety of Korean medicine for a thoracolumbar compression fracture. Methods : We searched six Korean databases (DBPIA, Korean Studies Information Service System, Oriental Medicine Advanced Searching Integrated System, National Digital Science Library, Research Information Sharing Service, KoreaMed) (up to June 2015) and the Journal of Korean Acupuncture and Moxibustion Society. Unpublished studies were also searched. Clinical research, other than case reports involving less than 10 patients, were eligible. The effectiveness and safety of Korean Medicine was analyzed. The 'Risk of Bias' was assessed using the 'Risk of Bias' assessment tool for non-randomized studies as well as the Cochrane Collaboration's 'Risk of Bias' tool. Results : We found 12 before-after studies (374 patients). There was no randomized trial. All studies combined at least three different types of Korean medicine treatments. The period of treatment varied between less a week and 154 days. All the included studies reported improvements in pain, functional disability related to lower back pain, global assessment, and benefits in the compression ratio of a fractured vertebrae and skin temperature measured by digital infrared thermal imaging in comparison with the baseline. However, all studies had a high risk of bias and three studies reported mild adverse events. Conclusions : There is no randomized trial for the role of Korean medicine for patients with a thoracolumbar compression fracture. The effectiveness and safety of Korean medicine for this population remains unclear. Findings in this review are seriously biased due to observational design and a high risk of bias included in the studies. Future high-quality randomized trials are warranted.

  • The new preventive control mechanisms for traffic management in BISDN/ATM networks can be divided into Connection Admission Control(CAC), Usage Parameter Control (UPC), and Priority Control. Of these mechanism, Usage Parameter Control continuously monitors the parameters admitted in the network's entry point to guarantee quality of service of connections already admitted. Upon detecting traffic that violates the negotiated parameter, it takes the necessary control measures to prevent congestion. Among these traffic control methods, this paper focuses on the Usage Parameter Control method, and proposes and designs GRACE-LB(Guaranteed Rate Acceptance & Control Element-using Leaky Bucket) which improves upon existing UPC models. GRACE-LB modifies the previous LB model by eliminating the cell buffer, dividing the token Pool into two pools, Long-term pool, Short-term pool, and changing the long-term token generating form using 'Cycle Token' into the same bursty form as the traffic source. Through this, GRACE-LB achieves effective control of the Average Bit Rate(ABR) and burst duration of bursty multimedia traffic which previous LB models found difficult to control. Also, since GRACE-LB can e implemented using only simple operations and there are no cell buffers in it, it has the merit of being easily installed at any place.
