  • In recent years, multi-focus image fusion has emerged as a prominent area of research, with transformers gaining recognition in the field of image processing. Current approaches encounter challenges such as boundary artifacts, loss of detailed information, and inaccurate localization of focused regions, leading to suboptimal fusion outcomes necessitating subsequent post-processing interventions. To address these issues, this paper introduces a novel multi-focus image fusion technique leveraging the Swin Transformer architecture. This method integrates a frequency layer utilizing Wavelet Transform, enhancing performance in comparison to conventional Swin Transformer configurations. Additionally, to mitigate the deficiency of local detail information within the attention mechanism, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) are incorporated to enhance region recognition accuracy. Comparative evaluations of various fusion methods across three datasets were conducted in the paper. The experimental findings demonstrate that the proposed model outperformed existing techniques, yielding superior quality in the resultant fused images.

  • Electrostatic spray deposition is an innovative coating technique that produces fine, uniform, self-dispersive (due to the Coulombic repulsion), and highly wettable, atomized drops. Copper-indium salts are dissolved in an alcohol-based solvent, which is then electrostatically sprayed onto a moderately heated, molybdenum-coated substrate. Solvent flowrates range from 0.02 to 5 ml/hr under applied voltages of 1 to 20 kV yielding drop sizes around a few hundred nanometers. By comparing the scanning electron miscrscope images of coated samples, the substrate temperature, applied voltage, solvent flowrate, and nozzle-substrate distance are demonstrated to be the primary parameters controlling coating quality. Also, the most stable electrostatic spray mode that reliably produces uniform and fine drops is the cone-jet mode with a Taylor cone issuing from the nozzle.

  • The plant breeding, a discipline of agricultural sciences, has greatly contributed to huan welfare in relieving food crisis by development of higher yielding, stronger resistant and better quality varieties. However, many conventional plant breeders, especially ones working for major crops, are facing exhaustion of useful genetic variability, which greatly limit the potentional of developing better cultivars. Therefore, the convectional plant breeders have been eagerly looking for new renovational methods in creating genetic varibility. It has been expected that biotechnology would provide the technique to create totally new genetic variability through gene transfer, chromosome manipulation and/or cell fusion. It is strongly suggested that very close interdisciplinary approaches between convectionla plant breeders and biotechnoligists is essentional for opening new era in developing better varieties.

  • Different types of moment resisting connections are commonly used to transfer the induced seismic moments between frame elements in an earthquake resisting structure. The local connection behavior may drastically affect the global seismic response of the structure. In this study, the finite element and experimental seismic investigations are implemented on two frequently used connection type to evaluate the local behavior and to reveal the failure modes. An alternative connection type is then proposed to eliminate the unfavorable brittle fracture modes resulted from probable poor welding quality. This will develop a reliable predefined ductile plastic mechanism forming away from the critical locations. Employing this technique, the structural reliability of the moment resisting connections shall be improved by achieving a controllable energy dissipation source in form of yielding of the cover plates.

  • Many household appliances, including vacuum cleaners, are being subjected to various of impact damages, and made of plastic. However, researches on the damage of appliances materials by repetitive impacts have been rarely conducted. the mechanical stress exerted upon impact-modified polycarbonate (PC) has a great influence not only on the quality of the product but also on the life span. The purpose of this research was to quantify the effects of repetitive impact on the polycarbonate. Second, it was to design the repetitive impact tester for controlling the impact energy. The mechanical properties of tensile strength, yielding stress and strain on the specimens subjected to cyclic impacts were discussed. Tensile strength was sharply declined at the beginning of the impact cycles, while the strain gradually decreased during impact cycles.

  • Metallic sandwich plates with Inner dimpled shell subjected to 3-point bending have been analyzed and then optimized for minimum weight. Inner dimpled shells can be easily fabricated by press or roll with high quality precision and bonded with same material skin sheets by resistance welding or adhesive bonding process. Optimized shape of inner dimple is a hemispherical shell to minimize weight without failure, including face yielding, face buckling and inner dimple buckling. It is demonstrated that bending stiffness of sandwich plate is 2 or 3 times than solid plates with same strength

  • Background: The ongoing economic crisis in Greece has affected both stress and quality of life (QoL) at all socioeconomic levels, including professionals in the police force. The aim of this study was to examine perceived stress, job satisfaction, QoL, and their relationships in a sample of police officers in Greece. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted during the first trimester of 2011 in 23 police stations in the greater Athens area. A total of 201 police officers agreed to participate (response rate 44.6%). The General Health Questionnaire-28 (GHQ-28) was used to assess general health, and the World Health Organization Quality of Life-BREF Questionnaire and Perceived Stress Scale-14 (PSS-14) questionnaires were used to assess QoL and perceived stress, respectively. Results: The PSS and GHQ subscales and total scores exhibited strong, positive, and significant correlations coefficients (r): 0.52 for somatic disturbances, 0.56 for stress and insomnia, 0.40 for social dysfunction, and 0.37 for depression, yielding an r equal to 0.57 for the total GHQ score. A higher level of perceived stress was related to a lower likelihood of being satisfied with their job; in this regard, male participants and higher ranked officers reported lower job satisfaction. The PSS and GHQ scores were inversely, consistently, and significantly related to almost all of the QoL aspects, explaining up to 34% of their variability. Parenthood had a positive effect on QoL related to physical health, and women reported lower QoL related to psychological health. Conclusion: Higher levels of stress are related to an increased risk of reporting suboptimal job satisfaction and QoL. The magnitude of these associations varied depending on age, gender, and rank, highlighting the need for stress-management training.

  • Soybean grain is most widely used and soybean crop produces most high protein per area among crops. To meet rapid increase of human population and supply protein in safety. soybean has considered more and more important crop. And it has been emphasizing that high quality and high protein soybean breeding must be made efforts in future. Many papers related to soybean breeding for high quality and protein and soybean protein composition have suggested the problems to do in future. Soybean germplasm collection. classification and conservation should be continuously performed, and it is emphasized that wild type of soybeans (G. soja) be considered to use in breeding for high protein varieties. Selections would be better emphasized in first yield and therefore high yield of protein per area. Selection for high protein would be secondary criterion. High protein lines with high yielding potential could be selection from certain populations, and breeders should consider this phenomenon in procedure of selection. Heritability of protein percent is relatively high and genetic gain of increment of protein percent is large. Soybean protein which is comprised 70 to 90% of globulin is constituted mostly 11S and 7S proteins. Sulfur-containing amino acids, methionine and cysteine, are identified to contain more in 11S protein than 7S protein. High 11S germplasm should be desirable to use in crossing plan, and selection of high ratio of 11S/7S lines be better in development of high quality varieties.
