An Application of Total Quality Management Efficiency Model in the Korean Distribution Industry

  • The purpose of this study is to analyze the efficiency of the service quality activity itself by using the DEA Model, in contrast to previous quality evaluation methods, as an attempt to evaluate the service quality activities of the distribution industry. Furthermore, by complementing the shortfalls of the weighted value of the DEA Model, it recommends a DEA/PS Model that is appropriate in the evaluation of service quality activities. Based on this model, the study proposes the SQAE Model, an evaluation tool to complement the traditional measuring method. According to the results of the analysis of 18 sample distribution businesses, there was a discrepancy by business in the results of the Traditional Scoring System and the Evaluation Measuring System. Therefore, it is most desirable to not only be active in service quality activities but also increase efficiency at the same time.

Development of Customer-Oriented Quality Design Elements of Shoes based on QFD (QFD 기반에 의한 제화류의 감성지향적 품질설계 요소도출에 관한 실증적 연구)

  • Although consumer needs for better products force manufactures to put emphasis on design, often development of a product has been done without the formal process to consider consumer needs. In order to identify the implicit needs of customers and the areas of potential demand on a product, several analysis scheme such as QFD (Quality Function Deployment) has been developed. QFD, also known as the House of Quality, is the efficient tool ever created to tie product and service design decisions directly to customer wants and needs, i.e. VoC (Voice of Customer) To utilize this tool on a product design, first of all, the consumers attributes and the engineering characteristics must be exactly investigated. However there were only few studies about them on shoe design. Hence in this paper we developed an innovative framework for shoes design based on QFD. As a result, we uncovered 29 dominant human satisfaction dimensions as the consumers attributes for customer-oriented quality evaluation of a comfortable shoes. Here, 29 human satisfaction dimensions for a shoe design were identified as the dimensions that represent the human sensitivity and psychological feeling on comfortable shoes. Also, we proposed 60 human interface elements as the engineering characteristics. The relationships between human satisfaction dimensions and human interface elements were investigated. This study will help the designers and manufacturers clarify the conceptual and abstract aspect of the design evaluation by proposing a more systematic and process-oriented method.

Development of the Evaluation Checklists for Quality of Educational Softwares - CD-ROM titles and softwares on the internet - (교육용 소프트웨어 품질평가를 위한 평가지의 개발 -CD-ROM 타이틀과 인터넷 상의 소프트웨어를 중심으로-)

  • We have developed three evaluation checklists of educational softwares for users such as, learners, teachers and parents, not for the software develops or designers. This study has especially focused on CD-ROM titles and softwares on the internet. The followings were selected as the essential attributes that the educational softwares of high quality should possess : ease of use, technical support and interest of learning for learners, educational value and smartness for teachers, packaging integrity, investment value and childproof for parents. The evaluation checklists were developed on the basis of evaluation criteria which were concretion of the essential attributes. The validity of the evaluation checklists was supported by a theoretical study for the development of ckecklists and the actual development process. The interrater reliability and the retest reliability were confirmed by statistical methods. Thus, the developed checklists can be a useful tool to evaluate educational softwares. This study will contribute to improvement of the software quality and help users in selecting educational softwares.

A Study on the Importance of Works Perceived by Quality Improvement Coordinators and Their Current Work Performances (질 관리 실무자가 인지하는 업무중요도와 수행업무에 관한 연구)

  • Background : This is an investigative study to analyse the importance of works perceived by Quality Improvement(QI) Coordinators and to evaluate their current work performances using the questionnaires developed by the investigator. Methods : The data were collected from 37 subjects over two weeks period from Oct. 1 to Oct. 17, 1998 and analysed by the descriptive statistics of SPSS program. The items of questionnaire are consisted of 13 work domains including 73 activities based on Quality Management(QM) Coordinator's job description of National Association for Healthcare Quality:data collection & analysis, communication, monitoring, evaluation, accreditation, tool development, policy development, program development, self development, education & trainning, system design, planning, and consultation & support. Results : 1) Of the performances in 13 work domains, the frequencies of the work performed were accreditation(89%), planning(88%), communication(83%), data collection & analysis(82%), monitoring(76%), policy development(72%), consultation & support (71%), education & trainning(70%), self development(68%), evaluation(63%), tool development(61%), program development(44%) and system design(43%) in order. 2) For the importances (1=not important, 5=very important), the policy development(4.46) scored highest then monitoring(4.42), planning(4.41), education & trainning(4.38), communication(4.35), evaluation(4.34) tool development (4.30), data collection & analysis(4.29), program development(4.22), consultation & support(4.22), accreditation(4.15), self development(4.05) and system design(3.98) in order. 3) There was a difference between the work performance and the perceived importance. The results showed the low performances in policy development, monitoring, education & trainning and evaluation which ranked high by the perceived importance and the high performances in accreditation, data collection & analysis, self development, communication and consultation & support which ranked middle to low by the perceived importance. 4) The reasons for low performances of QI Coordinators were the lack of clear assignment for the responsibility and allowed authority for work to QI Coordinators(30.8%), insufficient member of QI Coordinators(13.9%), lack of hospital director's interest(11.5%), low motivation of QI Coordinators (10.6%) and insufficient knowledge & experience of QI Coordinators (8.8%). Conclusion : Most works were perceived important by QI Coordinators, but there was a difference in the work performance. The works performed over 70% were related with accreditation, data collection & analysis, communication, planning and monitoring, on the other hand under 50% in performances were related with system design, program development, tool development and evaluation.

  • The purpose of this study to develop IT Outsourcing service quality evaluation measurement have been frequently used to apply a model KS-SQI in the service industry. Primary needs fulfillment, unexpected benefits, reliability, individual empathy, positive assistance, accessibility and physical environment were selected as independent variable, they evaluate IT outsourcing service quality in order to verify their suitability as a tool for IT outsourcing service evaluation measurement, to analyze how that affects IT outsourcing satisfaction, and to investigate whether affecting IT outsourcing satisfaction on recontract intentions. To validate the hypothesis by path analysis conducted between variables using LISREL, primary needs fulfillment, reliability, individual empathy, positive assistance, accessibility and physical environment have significant effect on IT outsourcing satisfaction, but unexpected benefits don't have effect on IT outsourcing satisfaction, and IT outsourcing satisfaction showed significant effect on recontract intentions. Six Measurement tools has been proved to be suitable as a IT outsourcing service quality evaluation tool. Contribution of this study to evaluate the quality of IT outsourcing services, KS-SQI model developed by applying the measuring tool was achieved theoretical extensions and practical aspects of a recontract with the provider of IT outsourcing and IT outsourcing services for as a tool to assess the quality of can be used.

Development of a Drill Tool for CFRP Machining and Evaluation of Drilling Processing (탄소섬유 강화 복합재 가공용 드릴 공구 개발 및 홀 가공성 평가)

  • Carbon fiber-reinforced plastics (CFRPs) are extremely strong and light fiber-reinforced plastics containing carbon fibers. CFRPs can be expensive to produce, but are commonly used wherever high strength-to-weight ratio and rigidity are required, such as in the aerospace, automotive, and ship superstructure industries. In CFRP drilling, the tool performance greatly varies depending on the tool shapes, cutting conditions, and diamond coating. This study developed a new type of tungsten carbide drill with multi-blade edges to evaluate the surface quality of CFRP materials according to the coating thickness of diamond-coated drills. Experiments on tool wear, surface roughness, and burr formation were conducted. The bore exit quality of a 12 mμ -coated drill was better than that of a 6 mμ -coated drill. The superior effects of the 12 mμ -coated drill and the good surface quality of CFRP were also demonstrated.

  • The research and development stage can improve the goal level of the project through systematic operation and management of systems engineering. The test evaluation tasks in the R&D process have a lot of connections with the system engineering in terms of requirement management, and the methodology for deriving the requirements when establishing the test evaluation items has been consistently required. In this paper, we propose the process of effectively establishing and using QFD (Quality Function Deployment), a tool to manage customer requirement, and drawing up HOQ (House of Quality) in the search and exploratory development stage of the self - propelled mortar project.

  • Recently, as the quality is being recognized as elementary and strategic means to improve the international competetiveness of a business, there may be few business who do not operate quality control meeting or system for their production lines. In other words, local businesses operate some types of quality control system half voluntarily and half compulsorily without having verifying their efficiency. Under such a circumstance, this study is aimed at determining the factors which local businesses are required to assess for their quality system. It is believed that the results of this study can be used as a tool for local businesses to assess their quality system. The effective identification of problems regarding the quality system depends on how precisely the activities of quality system can be performed. Upon correct identification of problems, desirable directions can be explored. All in all, the model developed through this study may be useful as quality system assessment tool.

  • The high speed machining which cam improve the production and quality has been remarkable in die/mold industry with the growth of parts and materials industries. The speed of machine tool increases, but on the other hand, the response of sensors I not being improved. Therefore, the condition monitoring techniques for the machine too, tool and workpiece in high speed machining are incomplete. In this study, characteristics of the tool edge roughness were verified from the high frequency components of cutting force signals acquired by the high speed dynamometer. Also, the experimental evaluation technique for the machinability and condition monitoring in high speed machining was established by analyzing the cutting force, acceleration and surface roughness.

  • The quality of tool material is very important factor in machining evaluation. The characteristics of tungsten carbide, such as grain size and hardness, and density are depending on the variation of Co composition and WC size. In this study, the non-coated end mill which is made of ultra-fine tungsten carbide is investigated by measuring tool wear and tool lift test. The machining test is conducted with high hardened workpiece under high-speed cutting condition.
