An approach for modelling fracture of shape memory alloy parts

  • Equations describing deformation defects, damage accumulation, and fracture condition have been suggested. Analytical and numerical solutions have been obtained for defects produced by a shear in a fixed direction. Under cyclic loading the number of cycles to failure well fits the empirical Koffin-Manson law. The developed model is expanded to the case of the micro-plastic deformation, which accompanies martensite accommodation in shape memory alloys. Damage of a shape memory specimen has been calculated for two regimes of loading: a constant stress and cyclic variation of temperature across the interval of martensitic transformations, and at a constant temperature corresponding to the pseudoelastic state and cyclic variation of stress. The obtained results are in a good qualitative agreement with available experimental data.

  • This study proposes a new approach which combines Data Envelopment Analysis(DEA) and the Analytic Hierarchy Process(AHP) techniques to effectively evaluate Decision Making Units(DMUs). While DEA evaluates a quantitative data set, employs linear programming to obtain input and output weights and ranks the performance of DMUs, AHP evaluates the qualitative data retrieved from expert opinions and other managerial information in specifying weights. The objective of this research is to design a decision support process for managers to incorporate positive aspects of DEA's absolute numerical evaluations and AHP's human preference structure values. It is believed that a pragmatic manager will be more receptive to the results that include subjective opinions incorporated into the evaluation of the efficiency of each DMU efficiency. The WPDEA method provides better discrimination than the DEA method by reducing the number of efficient units.

Transformation of TSK fuzzy systems into fuzzy systems with singleton consequents and its application (TSK퍼지시스템을 결론부가 singleton인 퍼지시스템으로 표현하는 방법과 그 응용)

  • TSK fuzzy system can represent effectively the behavior of a complex nonlinear system with low number of rules with the desired accuracy and guarantee the stability of the closed loop system, while the interpretation of the rules is difficult due to the functional nature of the consequents. On the contrary, fuzzy controller with singleton consequents is understandable intuitively and adjustable the rules easily due to qualitative expression of the rules. Ideally, one would like to combine the positive identification properties of TSK fuzzy system with the advantages of fuzzy controller with singleton consequents. Therefore, this paper suggests a method transforming TSK fuzzy systems into fuzzy systems with singleton consequents, and shows its application designing a fuzzy controller with singleton consequents by using the TSK fuzzy system when the behavior of a nonlinear system is described with a singleton fuzzy model by human esper.

  • As the construction industry has been increasingly complex, aging workers, hard-working avoiding young generation, foreign workers having language problem for the past decades, delivering of construction qualified workers has been a rising problem. This misalignment between the complex jobs and the number of skilled workers will continue to be in issue that the construction industry will face for following decades. Construction field workers who are working outside in uncontrollable condition unlike manufacturing industry are exposed to easily construction safety accident. There are so many efforts to prevent and control the construction accident. However, the relationships between the construction works and construction safety accident has not been well dealt and investigated based on objective accident data except for the qualitative study through interview, delphi and so on. Therefore this study analyzes job risk matrix exposed to safety accidents based on statistic data for 20 years from Korean Occupational Safety & Health Agency in order to prevent the construction field accidents.

  • This paper proposes the selection model of the telecommunication company using an analytical hierarchy technique. When selecting a telecommunication company, consumers conflict the difficulty in decision-making because there are many competitive and complementary factors of telecommunication companies. To select an optimum telecommunication company, consumers need to consider a number of different quantitative and qualitative factors such as fare, various services, additional function and so on. In this study, we develop the method for selecting the telecommunication company considering various factors to help consumers' decision-making for their benefits.

  • Size distribution of diesel particles measured by ELPI and SMPS were compared. The results of ELPI and SMPS showed acceptable agreements in the qualitative comparison but showed differences in the quantitative comparison. In addition, the results of ELPI and SMPS showed a same trend about the change of engine loads. In this study, the effects of dilution methods and measuring positions on the measurement of PM size distribution were also studied by using the SMPS. As results, the decrease of large particles and the increase of small particles were observed when the dilution air was heated. It was also observed that the number concentration of the diesel particles was varied within 20$\%$ by the different measuring positions of 140 cm.

  • Objective : The purpose of this study was to identify the trend of research in the Korean Journal of Oriental Preventive Medicine and to suggest future perspective for oriental preventive medicine research. Method : The contents of 344 articles published in this journal was reviewed from its beginning year 1997 to year 2010. Result : The number of articles was increased as times go on. An analysis of the research design showed, experimental research (in vivo or in vitro) was 36.9%, survey research was 26.5%, review was 20.1%. In the major classifications of topics published, health management 28.5%, oriental medicine effectiveness 25.3%, herbal safety and toxicity 13.1%, and environmental and occupational medicine 9.0% respectively. Conclusion : There has been a lack of health preservation(Yang-saeng) topic, epidemiology and health statistics topic. Further research need qualitative study and each subjects of oriental preventive medicine.

CD/DVD Compatible Optical Pickup Actuator Design (CD/DVD 겸용 광 픽업 액추에이터의 설계)

  • Recently, DVD/CD compatible driver is needed for DVD and CD is widely used as a new optical data restoring device. The optical systems of DVD and CD driver are different because they have different optical feature. If only one objective lens is used, the change of an aperture or a dual focal length of the lens is required. This method, however, increases the number of parts and results in loss of the power of laser light. Hence, we propose a dual lens actuator design that can read DVD and CD respectively. Albeit magnetic spring is important mechanism in the dual lens actuator design, there has not been the systematic approach to design the mechanism in the preceding researches. In this article. the guideway to design magnetic spring is presented by using the qualitative theoretical approach and the finite element analysis.

  • Field screening for pollutants has been a target of instrumental development for number of years. An electronic nose can be of substantial benefit to rapidly localize the spatial extent of a pollution or to find pollutant source. Although an electronic nose cannot separate complex composition into the whole spectrum of present volatile organic compound(VOC) in pollutants such as Gas chromatography(GC), qualitative and semi-quantitative chemical characterizations are rapidly available on site at a low cost using the optimum sensory system and pattern recognition algorithm based on neural network.

Molybdenum(VI), -(V), and -(IV) Oxo Complexes with S-methyl 3-(2-hydroxypheny)methylenedithiocarbazate and Its Derivatives

  • A number of molybdenum(VI), -(V), and -(IV) oxo complexes with S-methyl 3-(2-hydroxyphenyl)methylenedithiocarbazate and its derivatives as the ONS-donor metal-binding substrate are synthesized. The Mo(VI)-dioxo complexes are cis-dioxo Mo$O_2$L(D), where D is solvent molecules such as MeOH, DMF, Py(pyridine), DMSO, and ${\gamma}$-Pic(${\gamma}$-picoline). The Mo(V)-oxo complexes are of the type (PyH)[MoO(NCS$)_2$L] with an octahedral geometry. The Mo(IV)-oxo complexes, MoOL are derived from corresponding Mo(VI)-dioxo complexes by oxo abstraction with PP$h_3$. The complexes are characterized by IR, $^1$H-NMR, UV-Vis spectroscopy and cyclic voltammetry. On the basis of ligand displacement reaction, the qualitative order of D binding for Mo$O_2$L(D) complexes is also discussed.
