In this paper, SER(Symbol Error Rate) variation and effects on SER by phase noise at various frequency offset of the local oscillator in digital communication systems are gerneralyzed for QPSK(Quadrature Phase Shift Keying), MQAM(M-ary Quadrature Amplitude Modulation), OFDM(Orthogonal Frequency Division Multiplex)-MQAM, OFDM-QPSK and 8-VSB(Vestigal Side Bands) modulation methods and compared those with the ideal cases, which have no phase noise, through the MATLAB simulation. And the ration between modulation bandwidths and the SER on the various frequency offsets on the above modulation methods have been analyzed for the system requirement of minimum phase noise characteristics. From this study, we have confirmed that the most sensitive modulation method on the phase noise is OFDM-MQAM and that the relatively insensitive method 8-VSB.
For long-range communication in deep water, low carrier frequency is efficient due to a decrease in transmission loss. However, there is a limitation in that the data rate decreases due to a narrow bandwith. In order to increase the data rate in an environment with a limited bandwidth, it is necessary to design a higher-order modulation scheme. This paper analyzes the long-range communication data modulated by higher-order modulation schemes. The long-range communication experiment (23 km ~) was conducted in East Sea in October 2020. During the experiment, a vertical line array was utilized and communication sequences were modulated by Phase Shift Keying (PSK) and Quadrature Amplitude Modulation (QAM) schemes and transmitted by a towed source. In more detail, PSK modulation consists of quadrature PSK and 8PSK, QAM modulation consists of 8QAM and 16QAM. Time reversal processing is applied to mitigate inter-symbol interference by utilizing the correlation between received signals and channel impulse responses. All modulation schemes show successful results at 23 km range, demonstrating the feasibility of higher-order modulation in long-range communication.

The NEA release mechanism is used to provide restraint and release functions with low shock for critical deployment operations on solar arrays after launch. The GK3 solar array consists of 2 wings and 6 hold down points per panel. The NEA SSD9103S1 is a part of the GK3 solar array hold-down and release mechanism. Each NEA unit is equipped with two Z-diodes which provide power to a NEA unit connected in series after actuation of the fuse wire. This paper presents the hot firing test results of a quadrature NEA SSD9103S1 configuration. One output powers a maximum of 4 NEA SSD9103S1 units simultaneously. The necessary actuation pulse duration has been determined to meet margin requirement for thermal energy of minimum 4. Actuation thermal energy difference is about 6.6% between each half of two fired serial NEAs. Thermal energy margin at worst case is minimum 5.9 in case of an actuation pulse duration of 500 ms. Two series Zener impedance depend on current applied has been characterized by an additional actuation after all fuse wires are open circuit. Total number of actuation commands to the GK3 NEA unit reduce drastically from 24 in case of single NEA configuration down to 8 in case of parallel and quadrature NEA configurations. It can be accommodated by the existing HP2U Pyro design without any impact.
This paper deals with free vibration analysis of bidirectional functionally graded annular plates resting on a two-parameter elastic foundation. The formulations are based on the three-dimensional elasticity theory. This study presents a novel 2-D six-parameter power-law distribution for ceramic volume fraction of 2-D functionally graded materials that gives designers a powerful tool for flexible designing of structures under multi-functional requirements. Various material profiles along the thickness and in the in-plane directions are illustrated by using the 2-D power-law distribution. The effective material properties at a point are determined in terms of the local volume fractions and the material properties by the Mori-Tanaka scheme. The 2-D differential quadrature method as an efficient and accurate numerical tool is used to discretize the governing equations and to implement the boundary conditions. The fast rate of convergence of the method is shown and the results are compared against existing results in literature. Some new results for natural frequencies of the plates are prepared, which include the effects of elastic coefficients of foundation, boundary conditions, material and geometrical parameters. The interesting results indicate that a graded ceramic volume fraction in two directions has a higher capability to reduce the natural frequency than conventional 1-D functionally graded materials.

Various CMOS quadrature-voltage-controlled oscillators(QVCOS) are designed and fabricated for the comparison of the phase noise characteristic. The first one is that the QVCO is composed of two Colpitts oscillators cross-coupled with PMOS coupling transistors. The second and third ones are the conventional LC VCO and the balanced Colpitts VCO followed by the frequency-divide-by-two, respectively. The simulation result demonstrate that Colpitts schemes show better phase noise performance by 6 dB than that of a conventional stheme in which LC VCO is followed by the frequency-divide-by-two.
This paper compares numerical quadrature techniques for computing an inverse Fourier transform integral in two-dimensional resistivity modeling. The quadrature techniques using exponential and cubic spline interpolations are examined for the case of a homogeneous earth model. In both methods the integral over the interval from 0 to ${\lambda}_{min}$, where ${\lambda}_{min}$, is the minimum sampling spatial wavenumber, is calculated by approximating Fourier transformed potentials to a logarithmic function. This scheme greatly reduces the inverse Fourier transform error associated with the logarithmic discontinuity at ${\lambda}=0$. Numrical results show that, if the sampling intervals are adequate, the cubic spline interpolation method is more accurate than the exponential interpolation method.

In this paper, we propose a priority-based unequal error protection scheme of data partitioned H.264/AVC video with hierarchical quadrature amplitude modulation. In order to map data with higher priority onto the most significant bits of QAM constellation points, a priority sorting method categorizes different data partitions according to the unequal importance factor of encoded video data in one group of pictures by evaluated the average distortion. Then we propose a hierarchical quadrature amplitude modulation arrangement with adaptive constellation distances, which takes into account the unequal importance of encoded video data and the channel status. Simulation results show that the proposed scheme improves the received video quality by about 2 dB in PSNR comparing with the state-of-the-art unequal error protection scheme, and outperforms EEP scheme by up to 5 dB when the average channel SNR is low.

In this paper, we report phase noise effects on SER(Symbol Error Rate) of MQAM(M-ary Quadrature Amplitude Modulation), DPSK(Differential Phase Shift Keying), OFDM(Orthogonal frequency Division Multiplex)-MQAM and OFDM-DPSK. SER of each modulation method has been quantified at the various offset frequencies of the local oscillator and compared with phase noise effects with the ideal cases, which have no phase noise, through the MATLAB simulation. And the ratio of modulation bandwidths to the SERs at the various frequency offsets for the above modulation methods have been analyzed for the system requirement of minimum phase noise characteristics.

This paper deals with the free vibration analysis of compressive tapered members resting on elastic foundation using the Differential Quadrature Method. Based on the differential equation subjected to the boundary conditions, adopted from the open literature, which governs the free vibrations of such member, this equation is applied to the Differential Quadrature Method. For computing natural frequencies, the numerical procedures are developed by QR Algorithm, in which the Chebyshev-Gauss-Lobatto method is used for choosing the grid points. The numerical methods developed herein for computing natural frequencies are programmed in FORTRAN code, and all solutions obtained in this study are quite agreed with those in the open literature.

In this paper, we propose a practical implementation method of a soft bit decision expression for an R-QAM (Gray coded Rectangular Quadrature Amplitude Modulation) signal based on the Max-Log-MAP algorithm. The parameters of the soft decision expression for the practical implementation can be obtained with simple arithmetic functions associated with some deterministic parameters such as a received value, distances between symbols, and the order of modulation on a signal space. Also, we analyze the performance of an iterative decoding scheme for the QAM signal with I/Q phase unbalance. The unbalance results from the non-ideal characteristic of components such as a phase shifter between in-phase and quadrature paths for quadrature modulator/demondulator.
