  • Supporting quality of service (QoS) guarantees for diverse multimedia services are the primary concerns for WiMAX (IEEE 802.16) networks. A scheduling scheme that satisfies QoS requirements has become more important for wireless communications. We propose a downlink scheduling scheme called adaptive priority-based downlink scheduling (APDS) for providing QoS guarantees in IEEE 802.16 networks. APDS comprises two major components: Priority assignment and resource allocation. Different service-type connections primarily depend on their QoS requirements to adjust priority assignments and dispatch bandwidth resources dynamically. We consider both starvation avoidance and resource management. Simulation results show that our APDS methodology outperforms the representative scheduling approaches in QoS satisfaction and maintains fairness in starvation prevention.

  • This paper considers the analysis of QoS(Quality of Service) routing mechanisms to support the NGIs(Next Generation Internets). NGIs are constructing high-speed IP layer networks to support all data services. To support real time multimedia services on NGIs, it is important to satisfy the required QoS parameters on networks. To support QoS requirements for NGI networks, new QoS routing methods are essential. In this paper, serveral new QoS routing algorithms are explained. Some problems for the high speed QoS routing will be explained and possible solutions are suggested.

  • Lately development of network around Internet expands range of data traffic to multimedia information, and so for the guarantee of multimedia services end-to-end QoS(Quality of Service) must service because comparing with existing Internet service can not support For satisfying those QoS requirements, network have to guarantee not only network on parameter, such as delay, jitter, throughput but also system resources like CPU utilization, memory usage. Therefore it is urgent to develop QoS based middleware to distribute multimedia data and maximize network utilization in the limited resource environment. And it must be necessary of network to provide end-to-end QoS(Quality of Service) for multimedia applications. Multimedia applications want that QoS which satisfy their own service properties be guaranteed Then, We must analyze those necessary QoS requirements md define QoS parameter which specify as two viewpoint, user's and network's perspective. Therefore network provider supplying network for usual user and university, enterprise must want to find about their own network performance and problem. It is essential for network manager to want to use a tool like this. On the basis of technique about QoS test-bed in the AIM network, We studied on the method of QoS measurement and management about end-to-end connection in the Internet. We measured network status about end-to-end connection and analyze the result of performance.

  • In this paper, we propose an efficient quality providing scheme to satisfy a diversify combination of delay bound and loss ratio requirements from users by a predictive dynamic resource allocation method for real-time video applications. For utilizing the network resources more efficiently while meeting the service requirements, we adjust the resources based on the predicted traffic and the currently provided quality level. We developed a simple delayed-packet counter updating scheme for real time QoS monitoring. Simulation results show that our proposed method can provide an accurate and flexible quality control.

  • Recently amount of traffic into the network rapidly increase since multimedia streaming services is generally adopted for application. In addition, various network management systems have been suggested for providing a stable service and QoS guarantee. It is necessary for such systems to have QoS monitoring module in order to evaluate acceptance or violation of QoS requirements by analogizing a state information of each node within network. In this paper, we suggest a network management system to evaluate QoS level between end-to-end agents and analysis traffics transmitted between them. The proposed system is implemented for the purpose of collecting network traffic information and monitoring of the view. The proposed system makes user easily understand information of QoS parameters such as throughput, delay and jitter by adopting a method of visual and numerical representation. To achieve this, we purportedly generate test packet into network for confirming acceptance or violation of QoS requirements from point of view of multimedia application service.

  • User's qualities of services (QoS) are the basic requirements involved in distributed multimedia systems. Considering ATM network, ATM adapter cannot control the end-to-end connection satisfying the user's QoS. This paper describes the new concept of a QoS prediction management system in the distributed network and the configuration of it's QoS prediction management architecture and also discusses it's algorithm.

  • It is difficult to support QoS service in existing MAC Protocols in Wireless Mesh Network environments. while DCF can not support QoS, EDCA is operated with prioritized channel access method but can not give full performance. This thesis proposes frame management method to support QoS in Multi-Media DCF(MMDCF) MAC Protocol working in wireless mesh network. MMDCF uses ACH phase in TDMA frame to perform selection and elimination. Prioritized phases's count m and Fair Elimination phases's count n determine contention level and make string probability to only one win the contention. Forced TDMA Frame release method can support QoS requirements. MMDCF results good performance and good channel efficiency to support QoS requirements better than EDCA in multimedia stream environments.

  • According to the user requirements for continuous and real-time multimedia information, the concept of Quality of Service (QoS) has emerged as a main issue in mobile ad-hoc networks. QoS routing is to find the route that meets the QoS requirements of the users. In this paper, we propose a routing protocol that is based on AODV over TDMA, one of the typical routing protocols for mobile ad-hoc networks, by making a bandwidth reservation for QoS guarantee. While the existing schemes calculate the maximum available bandwidth for each candidate path, our scheme is to check only if the bandwidth of a given path satisfies the end-to-end QoS requirement and then to make a reservation by allocating time slots efficiently in the wireless environment. In order to evaluate the performance of the proposed QoS routing protocol, some simulations are carried out in the ad-hoc environment.

  • Existing Internet services were almost supported by the best effort service such as the data transmission service and were allowed the transmission delay and packet loss. However, recent Internet multimedia services such as Internet phone, Internet broadcasting are required a real-time processing and high bandwidth. Therefore, many studies for providing Internet QoS are performed at IETF (Internet Engineering Task Force). As the buffer management mechanism among IP QoS methods, active queue management method such as RED (Random Early Detection) algorithm has proposed. However, RED algorithm has a limitation of usage of an average buffer length and unfairness. So, many algorithms proposed as the modified algorithm of RED. But these modified algorithms also have difficulties to satisfy the requirements of various Internet user QoS. Therefore, in this paper we propose the QoS adaptive AQM (Active Queue Management) algorithm for the multimedia services that request various QoS requirements and present a performance evaluation by the simulations using the ns-2.
