  • Mobile IP has been designed only to maintain communication as they move form place to place, so it doesn't guarantee Quality of Service(QoS). QoS in mobile IP is important to provide multimedia and real-time applications services in mobile, and it is closely related to handoff delay. Therefore, handoff delay problem is actively studied to guarantee QoS as a main issue in mobile IP research area Next generation Mobile IPv6 resolve this problem somewhat, triangle problem for first packet and handoff delay still remain. In this paper, we suggest SNMP Information-based routing that adds keyword management method to Information-based routing in active network in order to resolve such a problem, and then suggest QoS controlled handoff based on SNMP Information-Based routing. After modeling of suggested method and existing handoff method simulations we carried out with NS-2 for performance evaluation. The results of simulations show the some improvement on handoff delay, and therefore on QoS improvement.

  • Recently, a study of BcN(Broadband convergence Network) is progressing continuously, and it is important to improve the quality of the service according to subscribers because a scale of network is about to be larger. It is more important to manage QoS(Quality of Service) of all subscribers in layer 2 than layer 3 network since managing it in layer 3 network cost both additional processes and large hardware. Moreover, QoS based on Best-Effort service has been developed because tots of subscribers should use limited resource in BcN. However, they want to be supplied with different service even though they pay more charge. Therefore, it is essential to assign the different bandwidth to subscribers depending on their level of charge. The method of current Rate Limiter limits the bandwidth of each port that does not offer fair service to subscribers. The Rate Limiter proposed in this paper limits bandwidth according to each subscriber. Therefore, subscribers can get fair service regardless of switch structure. This new Rate Limiter controls the bandwidth of subscribers according to the information of learning subscriber and manages maximum performance of Ethernet switch and QoS.

  • In an open, heterogeneous environment based on machine-to-machine (M2M) interactions, service selection is a critical issue and the concept of social trust can be applied to service selection so that IoT devices can make the best choice for interaction. In this paper, we propose a method for evaluating the trust level of the service and for estimating the QoS of the composite service using a profile created based on social trust relationship in IoT environment. As the service selection is made through quantitative evaluation, it is expected that the result of a more reliable service combination can be obtained.

  • 현재 인터넷에서 QoS(Quality of Service )를 보장하기 위해 다양한 메커니즘이 제안되고 있다. 통신망에서 QoS를 지원하기 위해서는 해당 응용 서비스마다 적절한 자원을 할당하고 자원 사용을 모니터링 및 제어하며, 이례적인 사건이 발생하였을 경우 자원을 재할당할 수 있도록 지원하는 자원관리 기능이 요구된다. 본 논문에서는 차등서비스를 제공하는 인터넷에서 QoS를 제공하기 위해 망자원을 관리 및 제어하는 정책기반 자원관리시스템의 설계 및 구현에 대해 기술한다. 정책기반 자원관리 시스템은 도메인 내의 사용자나 망 관리자로부터 QoS 요구를 받으면 도메인 내의 자원사용량과 자원사용정책에 따라서 내부자원을 할당하고, 이웃도메인과는 QoS가 보장되도록 SLA(Service Level Agreement)를 체결하는 기능을 수행한다. 구현한 정책기반 자원관리시스템은 정책정보를 PIB(Policy Information Base)의 형태로 정책 데이터베이스에 저장하며, 정책서버와 정책 클라이언트 사이에는COPS(Common Open Policy Service)프로토콜을 사용하여 정책 정보를 송수신함을 특징으로 한다.

Quality of Service Parameters Estimation Model for Adaptive Bandwidth Service in Mobile Cellular Networks (적응형 서비스를 제공하는 이동통신망에서의 서비스 품질 척도 추정 모델)

  • An adaptive framework paradigm where the bandwidth values of the ongoing calls vary according to the trafficsituations is one of the promising concepts for overcoming poor resource conditions due to handoffs in mobilecellular networks. However, quantifying the level of bandwidth degradation of the ongoing calls in an adaptiveframework is important in view of Quality of Service (QoS) Provisioning. Therefore we introduce new QoSparameters, the Degradation Degree Ratio (DDR), which represents the average portion of the degradationdegree during degradation pehod of a call, and the Degradation Area Ratio (DAR), which represents the averageratio of a call's degradation level considering both the period and the degree of degradation jointly in multi-levelbandwidth service. We also develop a new analytical model for estimating the QoS measures such as theDegradation Pehod Ratio (DPR), DDR and DAR. We show how to calculate the QoS measures and illustrate themethod by numerical examples. The proposed model can be used to determine the optimal parameter of theCAC scheme and analyze the sensitivity ofthe QoS parameters in adaptive networks.

A QoS Improvement Scheme for Real-time Traffic using IPv6 Flow Labels (IPv6 플로우 레이블을 이용한 실시간 트래픽의 QoS개선 방안)

  • The flow label field in IPv6 has been proposed to provide the QoS. Since the existing flow label specification scheme like random-number format utilizes the label only as the identifier of flow, it is not appropriate for providing differentiated services according to the characteristics of various types of real-time traffic. This paper proposes a hybrid scheme that makes use of the flow label fields as components of flow and QoS parameters as well. To be specific, this paper investigates a scheme that both guarantees the end-to-end service quality and utilizes efficiently backbone resources by allowing users to specify QoS parameters using flow labels. Assuming an MLPS-TE network as the backbone, we compare the performance of our proposed scheme with that of random-number scheme through simulation. The simulation result shows that our scheme is more efficient than the existing one in terms of the transmission rate as well as the resource utilization of the backbone.

A Set-top Box with Virtual Platform Support for QoS Management in IMS Based Multiple Provider Networks

  • Set-top Box (STB) has evolved from being a device just sitting on top of a TV shelf to a device providing a gateway to the Internet for a home network, receiving services from multiple content providers, and enabling and ensuring Quality of Service (QoS) for the streaming media. IP Multimedia Subsystem (IMS), with its promise to provide a converged access network for multimedia service delivery (such as Triple play & Quadruple play services), has to guarantee QoS support. To enable QoS in IMS-based networks, we have designed a set-top box which provides feedback to the service provider to ensure end-to-end QoS. Our set-top box is designed to provide virtual platforms such that it can support multiple service providers. Each service provider is able to manage its own multimedia streams and ensures the desired network performance for each flow. The set-top box also works as a Home Gateway and provides end-to-end QoS support to the client nodes.

  • The convergence of broadcasting and telecommunication technologies is a key issue of the ubiquitous networks. So this paper offers the convergence of integrated telecommunication networks and broadcasting system, Advanced Terrestrial Digital Multimedia Broadcasting (AT-DMB), and the interconnection of them via the Media Independent Information Server/Service (MIIS). Then, this paper proposes the fast wakeup and connection mechanism with concepts for improving QoS and energy efficiency simultaneously. In the proposed convergence network, our mechanism places the key on the minimization of both the incoming service delay destined to a turned-off interface by using the broadcasting network and the additional energy consumption. This paper further evaluates the performance of proposed mechanism through the numerical and experimental analysis and has confirmed the decrease of both service delay and energy consumption.

  • Recently there comes out various applications on real time control, audio/video conference, medical image and so on. These applications request certain Quality of Service(QoS) to their underlying communication subsystem. In these cases those communication subsystems should provide real time communication service on their QoS request as well as good performance to maintain best effort traffic. In this paper firstly we briefly look over bandwidth, traffic parameters on point to point network secondly we analyze on real time channel and propose design factors in real time channel protocol for multimedia applications.

  • As the Internet Protocol be widely/rapidly used in packet communication, common carriers are providing the multimedia service(Both direction real-time voice, video conference, remote educational etc.)on the Internet. Also the 070 VoIP (Voice over IP) service is provided by the carriers on the packer network. In order to offer VoIP service in Korea, common carrier has to acquire the optimum level for QoS(quality of service). In this paper, we study on CODEC quality to get a higher QoS for VoIP.
